I had a go one this for about an hour today and I'm not sure what to think of it. It's not got the same feel as the others.

I've played about an hour of this and it's brilliant. Probably more fun than GTA due to the missions being so different to each other, the humour and the crazyness. It's just a ton of fun and I'd highly recommend it just from the hour I've played.

Eurogamer slated it throughout the review and then gave it a 7. It read like a lower score. Though the review was pretty poor though and repeated a few points over and over.

Cheers for the feedback. I'd rather not jump between too many games but maybe ill play that next then and get onto the others later. Is it as good as GTA? Which ive never played but heard great things about.

I've never finished a GTA game (I really like them, but get bored half way through), but I had to finish Red Dead. If you like Westerns, then you have to play it, but anyway it is still a great game. I loved hunting the animals and the story is good aswell, along with the music etc. Just made for an overall great atmosphere and playing experience for me.

Awesome. I can understand what you mean. A city environment could be boring to some but a Western is different to the norm. My dad would love seeing me play haha. He loves Westerns!

p.s. Saw a good sale on today so I bought Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood, Red Dead Redemption and the complete edition of GTA IV. So I'll see how gay Tony's ballad really is
![]() Gotta finish AC 1 first though. Luckily I am about to commence a PES league. Will give me an excuse to play PES at least a couple of times during the week

Well, I picked this game up yesterday and I love it already. Barely scratched the surface mission-wise, as I'm enjoying being a cunt too much. I'm guessing everyone else has experienced the Bane-type bloke appearing and tipping your car over?

I've been trying to play this on onlive but virgin are being right cocks. With every other game I've played on onlive I get a good few hours before virgin throttle my connection. But with saints row I'm lucky to get half an hour before everything becomes a muddy mess.
I'm probably going to leave playing it until I can get the ps3 version on the cheap. The only complaint I've got with the game is Ths music stations are retry shit apart from The Mix. |

Played a few missions now, noticed he's part of a challenge - when I first saw him he was all alone, very random! Like it though.

I kind of wished I traded in Skyrim yesterday or earlier to get this for a fiver. But now I will probably wait until I complete this then trade it in for this, or maybe Rayman haha as that looks awesome too.
Anyone know how many gangs there are and if this follows on directly from Saints Row 2?

How often do you actually get in game missions.
I had a few at start but now it seems like I have forever been doing only ''acitivity'' missions eg insurance fruad etc.. How and when do you unlock story missions? Is there some kind of order to it? |

The thing with this game is you can spend hours pissing about doing activities and challenges, but the core story to the game isn't actually that long. You could probably blitz the story quite quickly but I've been purposely slowing the game down and working through all the other side missions.

It's been a long time no one posted here, but I gotta ask this... Am I really the only one who thinks this game sucks big time??
It's really cocky and silly humoured, totally taking the piss... ok, I get it and appreciate those guys trying to fill a void in the genre. But isn't it just too faulty?? I've only played for about an hour, but I see it's so full of glitches, horrible graphics and textures, very poor physics (especially the driving) and horrible shooting/no cover system. The story I'm not even expecting it to be any good, and it would only make sense for it to be very chaotic, as it is in the spirit of the game. But it's just too poor for me, the characters are very shallow. After Rockstar's games, there's no more excuses for open-world / sandbox kind of games to be lacking quality in details and graphics. But it struck me as a very very poor game, half-arsed and probably rushed into the market to make an important commercial date (last X-mas). This game reminds me in so many of ways of "Infamous". It just feels like a really bad game and it's on par only with stuff from PS1. Much like Infamous, I think I'll stop playing this one half way too... Can you guys tell me if I would finish the story mode in about 4 or 5 sittings? I may do this and then trade it in. Funny thing that I read so many good reviews on this game, by both specialised media and users! I'm really surprised by that!

Yeh rentboy i get you.
To me the game went to far. Maybe If I was like 10-13 years old Id think the game was hilarious. But to me it was just to OTT and not really funny at all. GTA on ps2 had perfect balance of seriosu story/gangs etc.. with some extra parody/comical stuff. GTA4 was boring as fuk as it was to realistic SR3 was just to OTT and not serious enough and lacking good plots/stories/characters etc... I think some of the mechaincs and stuff in SR3 is cool but the game is pretty shitty. I hope GTA goes back to its roots in GTA5. |

I pretty much agree with your (and pes4lyfe's) views on this game. I sold the game as soon as I'd completed the main story as I found it simply wasn't compelling enough to return to. Saints Row 2 was an excellent game that I put many hours into so I was really looking forward to SR3. However, when I saw the first videos showing air strikes and dildo bats the early signs were that this game was going a bit too far. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for over-the-top action, sick humour and silliness in open world games but I think SR3 got the balance wrong. What started off as a game about small time urban gang warfare has spiralled into....I don't know what. The story in SR3 is weak and I didn't like the whole pretence of the Saints being celebrities selling merchandise and what not. I also didn't like the fact that your character can become almost indestructible if upgraded far enough. The city (which can make or break a game like this) isn't all that great and I found it lacked character and interactivity i.e. there weren't enough shops, fast food restaurants, casinos etc where you could just fuck about. Rockstar are the kings of open world design and creating an environment which you can spend hours messing about in without even going near the story. I didn't feel this was the case with SR3. The driving physics are just ridiculous. GTA4 (while criticised for being too realistic) really nailed how cars should feel while still being arcadey enough. Combat gets a bit 'meh' after a while especially once your character is upgraded (which can't be undone )Weak story, childish humour, shallow characters, average graphics.....a real shame this one. It's still a decent game and worth a play through, but it didn't hook me in like SR2. While SR2 was buggy it felt more like old school GTA.

I must admit though I dont agree with you on the drivign of gta4 for me it was to rigid and realistic. Having gone back to play gta3 i relaise the beauty in that game was the ''poor'' OTT car physics..Screaming in a Banshee down the street etc...unrealistic but fun as hell. GTA4 made driving like Gran Turismo...which is cool in realistic terms but killed the fun element....Where do we get the perfect balance between realism and fun? I do agree the city which IMO the way the advertised it ahd so much potential was rather dull/bland/repeitive environemnet which I also say is an issue with GTA4. For me GTA3,VC,SA are the pinnacle of these type of games I know gta5 is set in some aprts of gta SA but not all of it. I hope they make it an enjoyable game again and balacne fun with realism |
