Interesting theory, Professor
, I'll be curious to hear how that turns out. So get a move on :-ppI worry that it might result in a weaker Champions League when you finally get there, but... we'll see. I suppose it depends how many uber teams you ended up with. I like the idea though. |

(well not for a while at least).I don't think i've ever seen a final, not contested by the top teams. This includes the Uefa Cup too, when i used to put in a lot more of the top teams. I still reckon the CL will be strong though, as the cream always rises to the top. I'm hoping the qualifiers and group stages will be more interesting.

Well Prof, i don't know what it is but among all those uber teams there is consistently sneaking in one team (and that for years): Aston Villa...that's PES for me...even the surprise team is always the same...

![]() Former player Didier Six at the helm in Valenciennes: It was with great pride that former French international Didier Six announced that he will be Valenciennes new coach for the next three years. "My predecessor Antoine Kombouaré has established this club beyond all expectations as a solid member of ligue 1. He did this with a solid, rather defensive sort of football. I want to bring champaign football to Le Stade Nungesser: veru offensive football with lots of movements and goals." was the rather bold opening statement of the new coach. A very bold statement indeed, considering that Valenciennes' first match is against perennial champions Olympique Lyonnais. |

I was going to say Gerd, i hope you get the most out of Pujol. He's been great player in PES. I couldn't resist bringing him to Strasbourg.

I like Pujol very much, but my favourites are both Algerian players of Valenciennes: Belmadi and Bezzaz.
I scored a wonderfull goal with Bezzaz, the best i ever scored in a PES game...looks a tiny litle bit like the Maradonna goal against England in 1986 (and i'm not talking about the hand of God goal). I play on 5 stars in the PSP version and i score lots of goals but i concede loads too...when i play PES on the PS2 or PS3 i never concede much goals, but i just can't defend with the PSP...i enjoy this ML more than the ones i played on PS3. |

EMPOLI BASKING IN RECENT SUCCESS
![]() I've had some cracking results of late, notably back to back wins over the Milan clubs and turning around the deficit in the Coppa Italia second leg. Having had dissapointing results up to this point, i saw these fixtures on the calendar and decided to adopt the Christmas tree formation (4-3-2-1). It worked a treat. Inter couldn't brake us down, despite having the lion's share of possession and we scored against the run of playe, when Toldo's trailing legs brought down Luca Saudati in the box. A superb upset. We all know Milan aren't quite themselves these days and the formation worked well against them too. Infact, it could have been three, when late on we hit the post. For the Cup game against Torino though, i switched to a 4-3-3, as we were chasing the game. It wasn't working particularly well in the first half, as it ended goalless. However, Guillermo Giacomazzi added two great goals from midfield to book a place in the quarter-finals, where we'll meet Genoa. Inter Milan 0 Empoli 1 Saudati 64'(p) Empoli 2 Raggi 21' Moro 71' AC Milan 0 Napoli 0 Empoli 3 Volpato 3' 37' Giacomazzi 27' TIM Cup (First Round, 2nd leg) Empoli 2 Giacomazzi 51' 59' Torino 0 (Empoli win on agg 3-2)

Wow Db!
Looks like we had different experiences against the Nerazzurri. I didn't face Suazo, but Crespo and Ibra. Of course, my xmas tree formation worked like a treat too. As a certain cigar-chomping leader used to say, "I love it when a plan comes together."

hello mate
If you performance was more George Peppard, mine was definetly more Amy or whatever her name was...e.g. instantly forgettable! ![]() ![]() As Homer might say, I am curious about your Christmas Tree formation and would like to subscribe to your newsletter. Any chance you can jot down which players you are using in the positions please ? I assume its a combination of 2 cmfs and a dmf ? Are you using second strikers or AMFs behind your lone front man? I would like to get Rosina more involved in the action rather than having him on the left and cutting in, but equally i have always like width in my teams and fear narrowing the attacking threat would reduce this. db |

No arrows as such, but they do come forward (note Raggi scored against Milan). Also cmfs in the last few PES games have really come forward to join the attack. Giacomazzi has banged in a few, from distance and in the box.
it's 4-5-1, option C-4. C-3 will give you 2 smfs, if you like. Haven't tried that one.

![]() domenica - 06 aprile 2008 EXCLUSIVE! ![]() ![]() Urbano Cairo and Walter Casagrande are due to meet at 3pm today in an extrordinary meeting that could decide the future of coach Walter Novellino. With Torino's home game against SS Lazio kicking off at 7.30pm this evening, the two men will spend the afternoon thrashing out a plan to salvage a season that began badly and has disintegrated since. With both powerbrokers eager to see improvements without resorting to serious funding however, many fans will feel that the Mister may be scapegoated along with a number of senior professionals. Gianluca Comotto in particular has come in for sustained criticism for his inability to provide inspiration and perspiration despite his extensive Serie A experience. Stripped of the club captaincy in favour of Stellone or Barone he sums up the problems in a defence that has sustained more leaks than a Berlusconi press release. With a serious cash injection clearly not viable at this stage a revision of formation or a refreshing of the first 11 seems paramount. Rumour has it that both Nicola Ventola and Masashi Oguro may be in with a chance of their first games of the season as Il Granata seek a Roman respite. |

Nothing like a good personnel and formation change when things aren't going your way.
By the by, i haven't had any width problems with that formation and for me it feels like players are often in good positions for passes etc. I've just played another game. 3 goals and 2 from my cmfs. I'm off to get my weekly dose of Laura :-pp The two outer cmfs seem to find wide and/or advanced postions. I'm really liking this formation. Good if you have an abundance of midfielders and only a few strikers too.

Ive got an abundance of strikers and lots of Dmfs & Cmfs, i wonder if a
4-3-1-2 might suffice instead? with Rosina in the hole behind a front pairing...hmmm cheers Professor

Indeed it was revenge. But i'm in the semis and they're not :-pp A bit embarassing, but it happens. I always get a bit suspicious when the computer goes mental. I feel it wants to fiddle with goal differences. I had slowly worked my way up out of the minus zone up to about +2. Now i'm back in the minus zone again. I resisted making any signings in the mid-season window. I will wait to see where i finish. I think if i get a European plce then i can perhaps attract a decent player. I will need a keeper mind, as Balli has said he will retire at the end of the season.

Hi db,
I play all sorts of formations. I usually start a formation the CPU makes ("suitable") and then i start to tinker with it (that is before the kick-off). But as Didier Six promised "champagne football" i play very offensive...3-4-3 or 4-3-3 or a very offensive 4-4-2 which is more a variation upon a 4-3-3. In that last case i play with Gregory Pujol as a very offensive AMF, with Savidan and Diaby (in the game he's called Dia) as a sort of Wingers. If a play 3-4-3, i still prefer playing with 2 full backs or wing backs instead of 3 CB's. That way my team is very vulnerable defensive, but since i have to concede that i can't defend on the PSP version, i don't really care about defending. I just try to score a goal more than the opponents...until now it works usually...but sometimes i can go wrong. The last match i played was against Lens, i went up 2-0 and they still scored two goals in the last 20 minutes...that was the one match i decided to play a litle bit more conservative after going up 2-0...
