[QUOTE=sweetkilla;1417564and the nets are different from ground to ground not the design but the actual strength or weakness of the net[/QUOTE]
Sweetkilla your becoming a EVOWEB legend:DD That sentance is just fantastic news:DANCE: the more i look at what they have put together here, the more it becomes blindingly obvious that EA have produced a superb game this year.
The nets give it real feeling and the fact they are different at all the grounds give you the atmosphere that pulls you into the experience.
Brilliant:w00t:
FIFA 09 and PES 09 look that far apart in terms of quality that they look like games from completely different generations! This game is shaping up to be the best football game ever, can't wait.

New to the board but saw your review on FSB sweetkilla and I was wondering if you noticed in the play select screen the ability to mix and match shirts and shorts (ie., Utd's red top and black shorts).

Sweetkilla what are the weather conditions like? Do the kits get dirty? And can you challenge the keepers, early fifa you could give the keepers a good old boot.
Yeah I remember being able to walk up and practically punch goalkeepers! :lmao:

I only played in day/dusk/night matches with no weather effects but kits did get dirty.
I didn't try it out lol but my guess would be no however you can no dribble keepers and they actually take you out in fifa 09
There is sun, rain and snow though right?

In one of the most recent official EA trailers they show the game from the perspective of a couple different players but I remember I think watching Rosicky and in the trailer there was snow falling. I don't think they'd put that in an official trailer if it weren't in the game, but then again you never know.
And thanks for the quick reply sweetkilla.

The nets look fine to me. In real life, not all nets are the same...not all nets are like Football Kingdom.
A bit disappointing that there's still that delay between the goal being scored and the crowd cheering.
Also, would be nice to have a better roar, like the "Gooooaaal!" cheer from Spanish and Portguese crowds.
The FIFA cheers still sound a bit like videos of Wembley crowds in the 1960s, a polite cheer, not enough venom. I almost expect to hear someone shout "Bravo. Good goal, old chap!"

I gather that graphically, the PC is roughly the same as XBox and PS3, although the gameplay and feel are probably closer to PS2. At a guess.
From the little I have seen, it does look pretty good... hoping we will get more footage soon though.

Video 8 - wtf are the 2 centre-backs doing? It's as if neither of them are aware a striker is clean through on goal between them and they stick to their positions as they jog back, rather than urgently chasing down the striker. The left sided CB in particular. And EA are using these vids to show off how great their game is?

I still can't comprehend why EA and Konami spend x amount of time creating these supposedly fantastic, inch-perfect 3D models of the stadiums and then dump the same generic goals on every pitch.
You can recognise most grounds almost instantly purely from the look of the nets. I'm sure there was a crappy game on the Dreamcast that featured varying styles of nets...

Hey SweetKilla, the build i played had the same response times as Euro08, have they been improved or are they the same? Also I had the same issue as you when players were missing sitters but i found this was fixed if you used a finness shot instead :))
Keep enjoying the game mate as I think its definetly the best football game thats been made to date!

Looks to me like the player controlling them switched to the right CB first and ran him in the wrong direction, then it switched to the left and he did the same thing. Some of the players have been pretty rubbish so far i wouldn't take to much stock in that :)

Looks like if you're a PC gamer you have no other choice but to stick with PES, which is quite a shame. Why EA didn't bother to make the PC version on par with the consoles version I have no idea, all they did was up the gfx and add a few different controlling methods.

Graphically, the PC version sucks so so much.
PLAYER MODELS ARE IDENTICAL TO THE ONES IN FIFA 08.
Except for the lightning and the somehow better textures (although the kits remain glued to the model). Hell, they still have that horrible gap between the legs, like they were GI JOE toys. And their horrible big heads are still there to remind us EA doesn't care about PC.
3d grass is another joke. I bet it won't be noticed in the standart camera views.
I wonder... would it be possible to play this game under a PS3 emulator or something like that?
Although the Konami saga continues having the same gameplay logic as their first Playstation 1 games (in terms of gameplay architecture, the game has been playing absolutely the same since then), konami may at least give us the same product they are releasing for xbox and ps3. It will be boring, yes. But we'll be sure they tried the best they could.

You kidding? There is no such thing as a PS3 emu lol. You would need a a monster of a computer to run a PS3 emu, & it would still suck.
EA should learn from Rockstar, they're making GTA4 PC the better version, yeah it's late but I sure wouldn't mind waiting.

Oh, and as usual, the player's necks and heads are always twisted in strange positions.

Wow! I am very impressed. Thanks EA for listening, thanks so much for fixing the nets and making this game be damn near perfect. I can't wait to get my hands on this beauty.
Also, your right SXFuzz, I am a bit disappointed that the Camp Nou doesn't have it's appropriate goal/nets. Maybe EA will listen again and change this, if not, I am fine with it since they finally fixed what I've always asked for, nets and response times.

Do we know if you can assign stadiums to teams this year. I want to play as Everton but refuse to play 90% of all my games in the same friggin stadium.
I predict that i already know the answer though!!.
I like video 8 of the EASW videos where the striker is through, then shapes to place it in the far corner, but actually outwits the goalie and slots it in the near post :)).

seriously who gvie a fuck about low spec pc's pc games need to move forward. you can pretty much pick up a dell gaming pc for £500 that has a 8800GT which is capable of running ANY game except crysis without breaking a sweat. gone are teh days where you needed a £1000 pc/£300 graphics card to play the latest games. EA are just fucking lazy to the extreme. they could have easily made the pc version of fifa on par with the ps3/360 versions. Business wise it makes sense not to offer their best product on the pc platform, most ppl download the games off torrents and warez sites anyways.

that's a stupid reason to ditch the pc version because we all now that many online games CANNOT be played online using a pirated copy. not many pirated pes08 and 06 on the pc because peopple wanted to play online and cant with a pirated copy.
business wise they can dominate the pc gaming scene if they wanted to, it doesnt take alot of effort to port the 360 version to teh pc because after all, the game was made ON A PC. try making a 360 game on the 360's controller
my main point is that EA are missing out on some profit that they can easily make in the pc front. with the announcement of a £300 fine if caught downloading games, not many would be brave enough to download such content mate. Ahh well its EA'S loss because now they wont make a single penny with there piss poor PC game. might as well not make one at all

Think it's time to split Fifa09 into next gen and PC threads, reading the same old whinges about the PC version is just plain fucking tedious :)
You think EA don't want sales? They have had to find a medium where every PC player has a chance. It's not just the graphics card it's the CPU and other factors they have to take into account. The route they have gone will maximise the sales for them and they are more aware than your personal opinion on this issue.

Any serious sport gamer will get a console, like u said they could easily port the 360 version to PC, so y dnt they?
bcos it will affect console sales, i believe Live is free on PC right?
If that was the case i would never have bought the 360 to play Fifa07, i would have just downloaded or bought it for the PC
EA isnt lossing trust me, if they were they would have the full next gen game on PC
PC isnt for sport gaming

LOL it wont maximize sales for them. hows using the ps2 engine going to maximize sales? pc gamers don't want to play ps2 ports on there 8800 and even 8600 nvidia cards. people want to play current gen games on there pc's.
since when has pc gaming become the norm of playing LAST gen games? no1 is going to buy this crap on the pc knowing it has piss poor gameplay from the ps2. make a good game on pc and it will sell. maybe not as much as the console version but it will stil generate sales for EA.
EA would have done market research. What have you done? What percentage of people have top end PC's? Jonney no offense mate but you're talking without any knowledge of athe actual subject matter and are basing what your saying soley on your personal opinion. So it's impossible to debate with someone who does this. I'm not here to defend EA and their PC policy but one thing I'm sure of is that it's more detailed and thought out than yours.

Most ppl that download the game dnt play online anyway, all i play is manager mode on pc
EA are not bother, is there even anything for pc gamers on EASW? NO
Any serious sport gamer will get a console, like u said they could easily port the 360 version to PC, so y dnt they?
bcos it will affect console sales, i believe Live is free on PC right?
If that was the case i would never have bought the 360 to play Fifa07, i would have just downloaded or bought it for the PC
EA isnt lossing trust me, if they were they would have the full next gen game on PC
PC isnt for sport gaming
they are losing. why bother making games on the pc then if thats there attitude? seriously why waste months developing a crap sports game when that time could of been spent tweaking the console versions further? imo you either go all out in a project or not do it at all.
you say ti may effect console sales. i disagree. alot of people dont have the luxury of having a gaming pc as well as a console, just like there aint alot of people who have both a 360 and ps3. releasing a identical fifa game on the pc wont harm console sales. only people with the luxury may do what you sya and buy it for there pc instead BUT those sorts of people are a MINORITY. how many here have a 360/ps3 plus a gaming pc?:SS

Well for starters you don't need a TOP end pc to play the latest games anymore. like i said before, a £400/£500 pc can play almost any pc game out today. gone are the days of needing a £300 graphics card/£1000 pc.
some things i debate are facts though. like how you dont need a expensive system to play games on but yes your right, some of my arguments are based on opinions but im curious as to why EA even bothered wasting there time making a pc game
Jonney most ppl with gaming PCs didnt waste their money on a graphics card to play Fifa
why would they? fifa is fucking shit. maybe if they made it identical to the console it would be worth buying let alone downloading
Anyway......I see Czech still drop kicks with his right foot and Abigal used his right when it would have been easier to use his preferred foot.
It's not as often as previous versions but still.
Anyway, overall looks good - especially love sweetkillas goal number 5 with the little strech.
A tad concerned to say the least about sweetkilla saying that the tackling versus CPU is akin to Euro 2008 - please say that ain't true as that's what killed that game for me!

sweetkilla, is it possible to execute really effective long throw ins from the sideline to the goal box area?
i really hope you are able to set attack/defence options for set pieces at all times so that for eg, one goal down in dying seconds, attacking throw in adjacent to opponent's goal, flood the box with 7-8 players and take a chance with a massive loopy long throw in

Demo details
Hi all, just to keep the excitment flowing; FSB can now bring you details of the upcoming FIFA 09 demo due for release on Spetember 11th.
PS3 & X360 Demo
The online availability will be Sept 11.
For PS3 and 360 we’ll have a full exhibition match with the following 6 teams available. If the match ends in a draw, it will go directly to penalties.
1. Marseille
2. Schalke
3. Real Madrid
4. Chelsea
5. AC Milan
6. Toronto FC
The demo features ‘increased accessibility’ (i.e. better flow for setting up matches) as part of the EA Sports focus on letting new players into our games. The player can also practice in the Arena and view tips on basic or advanced gameplay techniques.
Both versions unveil the new Team Management feature: Custom Tactics, giving the player a chance to sample tactical options in each of the key categories (Build Up, Chance Creation, and Defence).
The Playstation 3 demo features the FIWC Stadium, while 360 features New Wembley.
For PC, the demo will be available online from Sept 12.
1. PC demo has same teams.
2. 2x2 minute halves, no extra time or penalties
3. Kick-off Team and Kick-off Be A Pro flows are accessible
4. adidas Live Season info and tips & hints screens

Where do you order from in the UK Airjoca? Depending on the version I'll be getting (ps3 vs 360) I might have to do that just to have english language.
Is the 2x2min also the time for the console demo's? I wished they just made full 6min matches, or even just give the option to choose. Its not like they are giving away too much of the "plot" is it?! Oh well, couple of weeks to go.
Tnx for the vid Placebo,
Is anyone else really enjoying seeing the players run away and celebrate / look dissapointed without having a cutscene? I prefer this actually. What would be good instead of a player cutscene would be to pan to the stands and see all the fans cheering (obviously this would need to be a cutscene but maybe well integrated into the game so it wouldnt be as apparent). I think that would be a lot more forfilling when scoring a goal instead of seeing a defender jump on his back every bloody time.

Going on the current video's I have watched, i'd go as far as saying the speed for a football game is inch perfect in FIFA 09.
The flow of the game and the build up of passing is wonderful.
However I still worry that the lower league team's will still feel the same. The only difference between the whole of League One last season, was the speed of Jermaine Beckford for Leeds, every other player felt the same, regardless of there stature in real life.
If EA have the rights to the football league surely more time should be spent on developing a good simulation for the supporters of the 72 clubs in the Football League.

Fucks sake. Fucking retards, what's the point of 2 minutes per fucking half :brick:. I only asked because it didn't specify for the PS3/360 versions, whereas the PC demo clearly stated 2 minutes. Just wishful thinking I guess :((.
I thought that was the CPU being dirty in the Chelsea video! Hopefully they aren't always doing inch perfect tackles and the refs will actually give some fouls against them.
I noticed in a replay of the foul you can actually see the referee putting the whistle to his mouth to blow up for the foul :)).

22 August 08, 16:04
I can't believe the COM still never do any tricks, really bad. And the fact that only one player from each team can try to take the ball still ruins this game. In almost every video where a goal is scored you can see this scripted shit. One of the latest videos has a goal from a corner where a player scores from short range. There is a defender that could just take the ball but it's locked on another player so it's an easy and unrealistic goal for the attacker. No one complains about this so I guess it will be in FIFA games for years to come... really hate it.

The response times are improved from Euro 2008 100% anyone who says it hasn't, their lying to themselves.
And like I said all the improved trapping on the ball and quicker touches makes everything much much better its not frustrating passing the ball around and doing a long ball across the field! alot more fluid and precise how it should be as far as I'm concerned.
As for finishing finesse shots are useful but you can still launch rockets from inside the box with the right players which is great.
I find the finesse shot alot more useful from outside the box (as in 08) as well as normal long range shots also fantastic to hit

hey sweetkilla, I know it's been mentioned before somewhere in this thread by someone, but just to give me a warm feeling, is there plenty of first time shots/headers from crosses in FIFA09?
You know how in FIFA08, if you crossed the ball into the box, quite often the striker, rather than volley or header it first time, would chest it down (so a defender nips in a takes the ball)? But now, they just get up there and attempt a first-time scissors-kick volley? Yeah?
And did you see any diving headers yet? You know, to crosses at about waiste height, they just throw their head at it.

Did you have any chance to try the underdog AI logic, like play as a ***** against a * and see if it's as annoying as Euro where they can magically pass, dribble and retain the ball like they're Brazil or something? Word from EA is that's fixed and the AI is playable again but I remain sceptical.......

No they don't chest it unless you want to :)
as for it deciding between a header or volley when you want the opposite this still happens but not as much and now in situations where you want your players to be busting a gut to get there 1st they stretch for the ball and try and finish things off 1st.. which is alot better but still far from perfect I definetly think PES has an advantage in this aspect

Theoretically you should now be able to tell your teammates to press high to get the ball and play aggressive or something like that right? Maybe that or some type of tactic will help to minimize their possession.
Edit:
They really need to implement some type of confident meter for each player. People like Xavi, that would have a high value, likes to hold the ball and twist and turn, and lower league players wouldn't have the confidence to do so. They should instead hit a long ball or whatever when under pressure. It could be sort of dynamic, so if a player with low confidence is under pressure by a player that isn't very good he might try out to hold on to the ball. But like in real life, players that aren't very good doesn't dare to try to dribble Ronaldinho and company.
I'm not a fan of the AI keeping the ball for about 10 minutes game time constantly, but I think that they should be able to keep the ball well. When I played PES one of my main gripes with single player was that the AI was so crap, they could hardly string 5 passes together without you either intercepting a pass or tackling them.
Hopefully the tactical sliders will bring some variation into the style the AI teams play (i.e Arsenal play passing football, Bolton play long ball etc.).
winston

Not perfect, but at least it's getting better.
I still would like to see a "header" button, so you can choose to go with your head whenever you want to. I can't help but feel that having all 4 buttons set aside for different kinds of kicking is poor design, lazily copied from PES. A really good and innovative control system would have only one or two buttons required for kicking the ball, whether it be a short pass, a long cross or a shot. It's still all kicking. TranceAllstar is the man EA should be listening to.
Shit :(
This was manageable in Fifa08 but Euro2008 was completely unplayable for me.
The one glimmer of hope is that he didn't specify it was true of the real underdogs, just true generally. Not sure what teams he's been playing with but I suspect they mostly be of decent standard. Perhaps EA are true to their word in that the weakest teams will have lesser abilty to retain possession.

Question to anyone one who's played it, has the control really been sharpened up? and I mean really!
I just had a go of Euro 2008, and forgot how crap it felt. In fact it feels like your stirring a stick in a bucket of wallpaper paste. Yes 09 looks great, but for it to feel real the response time will have to be vastly improved on from Euro 2008. Another quick question, when you get a close up of a player, do they still look like they have been over doing the steriods, or have they been slimmed down this time?

thankx sweetkilla, i kinda made up my mind as to which game i was getting before Leipzig and the fact that Pro Evo has overall had poor reviews, views to it really just being a fixed version of last years debacle, has cemented my decision. Dont know what i would have done if evo had turned out to be amazing. Thanx for all the info.

The one glimmer of hope is that he didn't specify it was true of the real underdogs, just true generally. Not sure what teams he's been playing with but I suspect they mostly be of decent standard. Perhaps EA are true to their word in that the weakest teams will have lesser abilty to retain possession.
Indeed, desperate men call for desperate glimmers of hope ;)
Some consider Fifa08's AI so bad as to render the singleplayer completely unplayable, I'm over 13,000 minutes in manager mode so if the AI is no worse than that at least I'll be happy, obviously advantage for me being Sheffield Wednesday and only using default players is that we're so shit I'm the actual underdog for 90% of matches ;) Plus playing on all manual controls makes the game more difficult so I can play on pro/wc and it's challenging without the worst cheating of the AI :)

As PES is still moulded in my brain, the through balls were my main game to get to a scoring chance...

Can somebody explain to me what is meant to be so bad about the PC version of FIFA 09? I posted those videos earlier and got little response, yet I see numerous people badmouthing it here... is this based on FIFA 08 or something?
Interviews have said that the graphics and animation are near identical to the console versions. I presume gameplay is slightly different - but it doesn't look very different on videos I've seen. All the previews I've read have been very positive, too. So someone who's played it, please explain the differences!!

I'm not so sure it is though. Watch the first two videos I posted - the guy being interviewed says they built it from the ground up. It may be closer to the PS2 than the PS3 but I gather they made use of what most PCs are capable of. I guess only playing the demo will tell us for sure.
Most importantly for me, the control and movement looks very similar to next-gen - so especially in multiplayer/online games, it should be pretty good, even if the AI isn't the best.

Regardless, it looks a lot better than PES2009... so I really want FIFA to be good this year!!!
I do think it's coming under a bit of undue criticism though. It's a good looking game with very positive early feedback from various websites. Even FIFA 08 on PC isn't that bad... I've been giving the demo a go while I wait for 09 and it does have a few benefits over Pro Evo. Mainly player behaviour and movement. If 09 builds on that I'll be happy.

EA wants more money, can't u even realise that, on PC there is the concern of piracy(yeah i know on every platform(except ps3) piracy is immense).
how much does the PC version cost compared to the console version? think about it, why was madden09 pc cancelled, as well as other oldschool EA titles such as Fight Night, etc...
They believe they can make more money by making a half-arsed pc version(which will save them money on development) and convince PC users to move to the next-gen console versions.
Its all business and u can't fault them for doing so boys and girls. Even tho their excuse of not being able to scale the requirements for PC users if they make a next-gen version is ludicrous.

Infact Fifa 08 was the first fifa game i had bought since Fifa 2000 for the PS.. I have had all the PES's ever since then but after last years complete sham of a game, i'm still waiting to see if its worth getting this year.. Its always nice to have 2 footie games to chose from but if ones completes bollocks whats the point.. :HAND:
So yer, can't wait for this bad boy and its the first fifa game i've looked forward to in a decade!! :DD
Just to add it would of been nice if they had added some neat little features to manager mode because i love that mode so much, but its all good.. Much better than the same ML for the last 10 years..
hey sweetkilla, I don't think that this may be in the demo at Leipzig but do you happen to know if the ball and player physics (such as slide tackles) change during wet weather matches? I can not recall if EA announced this anywhere.

Can't stand PC's personally, and dont go on about the upgrades that render consoles out of date within a year. This does not matter as multiformat games show no real differences throughout the life of a generation.
Consoles are where its at due to accessability, cost and profit for the devs............end of, get into the 21st century and dump the PC for gaming, especially football games:OT:
I trust Sweetkilla's reassurance that the response times have improved, so its going to be a winner for me.I am happy that PES shows some improvement in most area's but you can see the difference in quality, its miles infront.
I am not overly concerned with the single player as I like to play in the organised leagues and cups but it does seem the game still has its flaws here with playing lower league teams on a higher difficulty.Players like Placebo may well be dissapointed in this area as I think it sort of plays the same with a stuggle to get the feeling of difference between teams against the AI.I've not played it but the snippets of feedback show a few single player niggles.
Player models have improved massively, i keep hearing that they look better but i think they are huge step up from the previous games. The big thing is that they are slimmer than the wooly jumper under football shirt look of last year and I think this actually enhances the animation as the scale looks good.
Lighting is better which gives the game a more realistic feel, especially around the stands and crowd.I am looking forward to the weather efffects and I hope the ball does react differently on harder and wetter surfaces.
I did'nt like the wet pitches effect on the ball in Euro because it was just too wet and only held the ball up, I'd like it to react the other way eith it increasing in pace as it zips off the surface for shots and longer passes etc.
The floodlighting also seems a bit off with the similar dark patches we saw in 08, i may be wrong but it looks that way to me.
I think for the first time on this generation of consoles that we have our first real, almost complete next gen game, hats off to EA for listening and implementing the changes for us to have a far more enjoyable experience.
He looks off in that render but in that (I assume) in-game shot he looks spot on IMO.

That was a good retort..........the first time it was used. Constantly bringing it up however seems to indicate that there is nothing else worth mentioning.
The PC has always ruled first person shooters. It will probably do so for some time to come.
Unfortunately....FIFA 09 is not a first person shooter.

It's a good retort against someone that is showing blind ignorance. Don't have the patience to explain why he is completely wrong.
FIFA is obviously better on consoles, because they don't make the next-gen version on PC...kind of stating the obvious. Ironically, Pro Evo is actually massively better on the PC not just because of the patching capabilities but it generally runs smoother.
Ironically, Pro Evo is actually massively better on the PC not just because of the patching capabilities but it generally runs smoother.Ironically, FIFA 360/PS3 is actually massively better than Pro Evo on PC not just because it is not just a PS2 port with improved graphics but it also has much better gameplay and plenty of other game modes and features (too many to list - one of the most important being full manual control).

Well I'm certain EA are aware of the fact that PES09 is the same on all next-gen platforms(although I don't think the PC should be rated in any gen), but they don't seem to mind, heck that was the scenario last season, and their sales for FIFA 08 weren't bad either. So I reckon they'll still sell anyways despite being inferior to its next-gen console counterparts.
And I agree, for the time being the selection of sports games on the consoles are much better than the pc. But I'm not that much of an avid gamer(except for PES and fps shooters) so the PC will do just fine for me.:)

I understand where you're coming from, the best bit about PC is the moddability, Oblivion is a good example, default PC/360 version is a mess of shitty levelling, massive icons that detract from the immersion, plus various other annoyances and such, 2 years later or whatever the 360 version is still the same, the PC version is completely moulded into the far, far better version that fans of the genre really did want to play.
Same with a number of shooters that allow moddability, same will be of course with GTA4 when it comes out on PC.
The flipside of course = 360 I can lay in bed playing it on my 32" HDTV with my wife laid at my side using her notebook PC :)

Great Placebo, thx again!
About the videos themselves, I would prefer the "wide cam" in all of them, but anyway... The cutback shows one of my main gripes with the game, even upon goalkeepers deflecting balls: the lack of agression of AI-driven defenders. They could have the ball one inch away and let the strikes score pleasently anyway. I firmly believe it's one of the things I can't understand, specially because the AI can detect those situations and make the striker agressive, how difficult can it be to have the same kind of reactions on defenders??

I think for the first time on this generation of consoles that we have our first real, almost complete next gen game, hats off to EA for listening and implementing the changes for us to have a far more enjoyable experience.
great post. i agree 1000%

Shame its old build before Leipzig but still shows gameplay all the same. :))
Not long until the demo now, under 20 days :DD. I'll probably be playing that over and over and over and not bothering with any other game until release date :-pp.
Thanks sweetkilla for all the videos, info and opinions on the game, I appreciate it as do the rest of us i'm sure :TU:.

My biggest gripe as i only play single player is the lack of fouls committed by the CPU. Does anyone know if this has been changed?
Thank-you.

Thanks Bitter
Fantastic news that the game speed slider is in.This caters for all aspects of the market in that you can choose how slow or fast it is.
The nice thing here is you could play normal games at slow pace and then when it comes to the real ding dong derby or cup semi-final, you can increase it slightly helping to create the illusion of reality.
He also mentions the CPU time waisting aswell:SS and there is a huge hint of the keepers AI being improved alot.I think this may well be seen at the upper end of the difficulty levels.
All in all not much more info but the assurance of the spped slider is fantastic news.
