MM career?
My advice (which I've said a million times before because of all the times it's happened to me) is make a save at the start of every season, before doing transfers. When it's happened to me it's 100% been after loaning out some players or other transfer activity. Then if it goes wrong you can go back to the start of the season and do things differently.

Yeah I do that, it's damn annoying tough I was three games short of the end of season and just 3 points off second...
Chris do you know if it happens no matter what you do, is it going to happen again at the same spot if i sign the same players etc?

I'm only going on my experience but with me it seems to have been loan related all the time; I loan out all the youth players and the game seems to have a fit in the 2nd/3rd season, so I haven't loaned anybody out and since then I haven't had a problem. It could be down to one specific transfer but I think it's more likely to be a problem with a situation, i.e. if a club has under minimum / over maximum players because loans haven't been taken into account.

Given up on loaning as it's pointless so it can't be that, I Was wondering if it had to do with scouted players...?
Has weather completely disappeared from this game? I haven't seen any in weeks...
On a site note, I finally found the great equalizer in Online BAP mode to beat Manchester United/Barcelona... drum roll please:
FC PORTO
I hate this team with a passion in real life but how ever they are configured in the game they stuff both of these teams and hit on the counter very effectively. I am not a good player online by any stretch really, but picked Porto for the heck of it and went 5 matches unbeaten. These were smaller games, 2 a side and 3 a side or 3 against just me. I would put the defense bar back one from the middle and leave everything else alone.
Someone else try it and see what happens?
I play with Porto all the time, their my favourite team in the game along with Valencia.
I play Hulk in the middle with Lopez on the left and Sektoui on the right, for the most part their movement is very good. Also as long as the AI behaves itself, the LB Cissoko shuts down Ronaldo every time.

That's what I noticed actually, but I just left the formation and squad alone. Lisandro was making some crazy runs I haven't seen in the game before and it seemed to baffle the people I was playing against.
I've also had similar success with Lille of Ligue 1. Although I mostly hit the bar with them.

I've just recently started up a MM season and have just got to the end of my first season with Man City, winning the league. However, after it shows me the Team of the Season it freezes, everytime.
Is there anyway to sort this out? If not, I'll be seriously fucking pissed off. I've not loaned out any players or anything like that Chris! :P

any news on the kit patch?
Rutter said on the official EA forum a week or so ago that it's been delayed due to some of the kits not being unveiled yet by Adidas, but it will be along at some point.
This thread has over 10,000 replies. Wow.
The freeze thing happens on the PC version too. At least we have something in common.
Personally I don't think there should be a kit patch, unless it actually provides the missing kits (such as Carlisle not having a home kit in the game).
They shouldn't be applying new kits they should be fucking fixing bugs and glitches that are in the game .
Fucking cunts.

I had a torrid time on FIFA last night.
I searched for an all manual game...nothing.
I set up my own all manual game...no takers.
I went into the lobbies and invited people to an all manual game...all declined.
I went into a quick match, setting my team as Northampton Town (1.5 stars), who did my opponent try to be? Manyoo. The next guy? Bayern? The final one? Barcelona.
FFS...30 minutes wasted and not one ball kicked.
Go to the lobbies, people normally say "Invite me to a match", so do just that but set the control limitations to manual - they have no way of finding out until they are in the game :SMUG:.

Fell out of love with 09 last night, game went into super of all super modes of though shalt not score or win.
We hit the woodwork 8 times in one game, the AI scored 3 goals, four games in a row; our defence had not conceded more than one in all but two games in over three quarters of the season.
And I would not mind if they were great worked goals they were nearly all pumped balls forward and amazingly their player who looked for all the world to be 10yards offside wasn't and there were no superman keeper antics in our nets as there was going on at the other end.
To rub it in just a bit more in the fourth game all the goals were over head kicks from corners where we had players in front of the guy who would either not jump or just jump and miss a simple header.
We were wondering what would come next.
I know there are guys on here who swear blind things like this don't go on, that scripting does not exist, but boy if you could have seen this it was just down right funny, joypad snappishly funny...
I've maybe seen 2 AI overhead kicks in 9 months, what skill level you play on?

World class 2vAI, TBH I've found Professional to be better for 2vAI. It's those things that really jack you off, up until then it had it's moments and I've seen a bit in the amount of time I've played but this was something else...

Oh we have customised formations, our back line on defensive line ups is as far back as it will go, it does not stop the perfect long ball into the corner... :P
How about this one EVERY game.
It's the final 5 minutes of a game and the AI takes over super dribble, can't tackle the AI player mode. They just run around inside the box out to the corner, back inside the box - can't slide tackle, can't push them off the ball, nothing.
Once this starts up I literally just put the controller down because there is nothing you can do as time runs off the clock. This game is quite flawed in a lot of ways really.
Also, can anyone independently confirm that WEATHER is GONE from this game? I think they took it out in a patch...

You also have to play with defensive set in the attacking mentality.

And it's usually in a cup game against a second division team where you know they can't dribble.

Played this last night for the first time in months (wanted to try out my new 46" TV :) ) and really enjoyed it. Its got me pumped for FIFA10.
Its amazing how much the game changes when you play with good teams. I usually play with lower league teams and its an excercise in frustration, but first game last night I played v CPU as Liverpool against Man City and it was a great game. I won 2-0 but it was close.
Then went online and played a load of games and even though I didnt win any, they were all good fun and not a lot of frustrating moments. Last guy I played picked Accrington which was cool as it makes a change. I chose Darlington and lost 2-0 but was a good game. Least said about my final game against him where he was Morecombe and I was my beloved Southend, the better...
EDIT: I think this is one thing they need to look at for the new FIFAs though - dont handicap lower league teams in speed only. There are lower league players that can sprint as fast/faster than Prem league players, so that is not the way to show the difference.
Its needs to be more subtle. Less passing skill, less tactical knowledge (positioning, movement etc) and lower overall shooting accuracy for most players.
Just limiting speed makes it feel like playing in treacle and really frustrating. Not a true reflection of football at that level, just a leveller for the 'game'. Sort it out EA!

This hasn't been enforced in Fifa for some time, it's down to the data editors to set the player's speed now and there's no "rule" that you cannot set a player at 99/99 for speed/accel just because he's in league2 or whatever :)

Hmmm not sure I agree as it all feels so sluggish. Running, turning, first time passing etc.
League1/2 games turn into a midfield scrap as its so hard to move the players and ball around.
Appreciate they cannot set them to the levels of higher league players, but I think the difference is too great.

Well not all League 1/2 players will be as fast/agile as Premiership players so it would feel a bit more like that, but you should still find fast/agile players down there if that's how they are in real life, if not it's down to the editor for that team rather than the engine.

Well can we get some data editors that actually know how fast some of these players are?
ie: The US team is all basically 60's in total stats. Charlie Davies, who ran circles around Spain last night, is a FAST player. I bet he's got like a 60 speed rating in the game. In fact, the entire US team is ranked so low you can't even play with them in the game. When you match up against Mexico they run ragged over the US and it's just not an accurate representation of the current goings on.
Well can we get some data editors that actually know how fast some of these players are?

Go ahead.

Actually, when I am wrong I can admit it. The data editors have actually fixed Charlie Davies stats to represent his strengths and weaknesses. This was not accurate when the game came out but must have been fixed in an update.
Hats off to the FIFA team.

Whoever suggested using through ball for short passes on manual is a genius!!
I was finding semi a bit too easy, but manual very hard, but I just switched my :x: and :triangle: buttons around, and had a fairly decent game on full manual.
Had a bit of a scare when my goalie dropped the ball instead of throwing it out, but other than that it was good.
Scored a good goal too, one that looked different than anything before; the 'through ball' went on the wrong side of the runner and defender, he changed direction and hit it on the half turn..very satisfying. :APPLAUD:

damn..after about 3 months i went ahead and set up a quick unranked game out of boredom...i picked Fenerbahce, the guy got Inter(what a surprize) ...alright 2 mim into the game and he flicks the ball to his left winger, MESSI??!?!?! WTF?? than i noticed he had Kaka, C.Ronaldo too...now wtf is hapening?? i thought this was only possible for unranked macthes...
now i also heard that there are people using their ultimate team on ranked macthes? i mean, using guys rated 99 and such?
thats its for me... from now on ill only play peolpe i have on my friends list...
Whoever suggested using through ball for short passes on manual is a genius!!
I am yes ;)
So I finally went almost full manual last night in a new MM. I have shooting and passing on Semi but everything else manual. I also lowered the difficulty down to professional and seriously had a blast.
After figuring out how NOT to blast crosses into the stands, I scored 3 headers. I don't think I've scored 3 headers since I've had this game. The only problem I seem to have is that on professional it's way to easy to win the ball back from the other team. But I have a feeling if I increase the difficulty it will be a nightmare.
The passing was insane as my team were doing backheels, flicks, etc but I still don't know how I feel about the through balls. They are quite slow actually and always seem to pull me off to the side of the field.
All in all, new life in this game for me.

Why is it so hard to dribble past or even run past an opposing defender?
Even when I have someone as strong as Maicon running on the ball past someone as small and weak as Donovan, he still manages to get a tackle in and take the ball while at the same time knock Maicon onto the floor so that he can't regain his balance and take the ball back off him.

If you're playing online it's probably because the other teams tactics are set to 100 aggression and pressure. Maybe not pressure but certainly aggression. I just finished a BAP: Online Team Play game where no matter what I did the moment I got near on of his player he'd just run right through me. I'd have my back to him trying to shield the ball and it wasn't happening.
There are ton of cheesy formations and tactics that can make it almost impossible to beat a guy unless you use assisted passing and ping pong the ball all across the field.
Lately though I've seen instances where I'll get a guy with a standing tackle head on and he'll just run through me and still retain possession of the ball or if I tap the ball away from him, he recovers instantly and runs me down within a second and takes it back. For me if 2010 plays this way, I might only be renting it. This isn't soccer...

Yeah it has to be some sort of glitch. I've come across more and more people that use the custom team glitch to and put players like Torres, Ronaldo, Droga, etc., on teams like Aston Villa. I've also seen guys with normal squads that are somehow super fast.
I was reading on the FIFA forums a few days ago and read a post from some guy who admitted to using the glitch saying he plays with national squads alot and simply boosts up their stats. He's still got the same players so oftentimes nobody notices the difference. Someone suggested to me that maybe people are now using the glitch to boost up certain players by simply decreasing all the defensive stats for attacker for example, and putting everything on speed and shooting. The opposite for defenders of course.
Add to that the typical 2nd defender pressure abusing and FIFA 09 is probably playing worse than I've ever seen lately. EVERY game plays like shit. We win a good number of them in BAP: Online Team Play, but they all play the same now.

Just been reminded why I love this game online.
Started a session as Northampton Town, and the idiot picks 5 star ManYoo, so I left. He messages me "why not pick a better team you cock? I'll be same lvl as you and I'll stil beat ya"
So I whack it on manual and we start.
He's shocking. Passes all go to me, he puts crosses straight out play, and didn't have a shot all game. I was dominant...but couldn't finish to save my life (1 shot out of 10 on target :P).
He eventually wins on pens..and sends "Ha dik ur shit at pens" to me...lovely.

Just played a match like that before I got offline some 5 min ago. Some guy kept following me and my buddy in every BAP: Online match that I made so I made it all manual. His passing was woeful of course and every cross goes out of bounds. We score 1 in the 70th minute or so and then he gets fouled a few yards outside the box near the sideline. This is where I think manual controls don't matter because he fires in a cross and nobody on in the box moves except for Adebayor who basically just jumps past everyone, stands completely still, and heads it right into the corner. Game ends 1-1. At least he didn't follow me after that though.
For the most part I don't play against anyone who takes the "captain" spot on the other team and is rated above a 10. The guys that are have skill levels of 20+ are always assisted abusing cheesers.

Not quite as good as when you're playing online and you get scored in the cheapest way possible and for some reason, even though nobody on your squad chooses to skip the replay, it IMMEDIATELY goes back to the kick-off so you can't see what happened.

Does anyone know how to set up a 2v2 online game using 4 different ps3's? The only thing i can think of is to make a couple of online clubs and have two of us go to each team?
Thanks
Don't worry found it out can play in BAP.
I was playing a ranked game today and my opponent picked Real Madrid. I was shocked to see that his team included the likes of Ronaldo, Kaka, Messi, Ibrahimovic, Torres, etc. :CONFUSE:
How is that possible? I know you can do that in unranked matches bu not in ranked ones. Might be a glitch, but it seems like the guy knew he had all these players when he did a few subs.
I think I've finally given up on this game. MM is so boring I have never made it through more than 2 seasons with the same team.
I was playing online last night and thought I'd give a ranked match a go. First game the guy picks Brazil so I pick Turkey. (A surprising little team in this game)
I beat the guy 4-3 using mostly manual controls (semi shooting and semi passing) but every single goal he scored was exactly the same. Robinho running up the middle to the top of the box and firing it to the keepers left. Every goal went in the same exact spot and he shot it from the same place. Every one of my goals was hard as hell to come by and I hit to post 5 TIMES!
I rematched him because it was nice beating someone using fully assisted against mostly manual and he starts bombing shots from all over and they go in every time. He never misses a shot...
Bored bored bored with this game now, but it had a better play life than most games. I just don't think FIFA 10 will be any different to be honest.

I'm sure this has happened to some of you (hopefully) - haven't played in about a month and a half (discovered Fallout 3...wow) - stuck in Fifa09 last night, stuck it all on manual, played exhibition against comp, world class... AWFUL. I could stick two of my defenders onto players like Elano for 5 minutes and he still wouldn't be tackled. He'd just run perpendicular to the screen until my dozy defenders pull away from Jo and slot him in. Meanwhile, I cannot shield the ball. Period. With any player, from any player. I have SWP going through the back of Berbatov to nick the ball away like the Bulgarian isn't even there. Game was completely unplayable.
Stuck it back onto Professional and it was soooo much better.
So anyway, my question is - how do you guys play on world class? I mean, is that mode only there for people that have owrked out exploits of the game and can essentially cheat their way through? Because without being able to tackle a single one of the CPU players, and my players losing the ball (then doing the lovely stumble 5 paces in the wrong direction animation) every time someone breathed on them I cannot imagine it's a pleasant experience.
Rant over.

Yeah, on anything above professional the CPU plays like the cheesers do online. Not sure how to beat it but in order to beat the cheesers you've gotten ping pong it and basically do all the horseshit you see online.

Yeah, all manual on Professional gets the best experience out of the game for me.
Same here, I move to world class for a while and when you play the top 5 it's fine, but then you play some team 2 stars less than you and the game becomes a frustrating AI cheating farce where player stats mean absolutely nothing.
Seriously? I prefer fully assisted on Amateur.

I hope so but when you think about it, those of us who champion realism on sites like this and FSB are in the minority. If the kids and cheesers keep eating the game up what reason will EA have to actually make the game even slightly realistic online?
I keep hearing from everyone that it's the most "fun" that they've ever had playing a sports game and that I should just tone down the complaints for that reason. I'm all for fun but when it's at the expense of the level of realism in a "simulation" of a sport that I love, then I get a little pissed.
Still don't see why they just don't add a separate leaderboard, Amateur and Professional or something and make the control schemes Assisted and Manual respectively. Obviously they don't have to give it that name but I'd like it as a nice dig at the guys that are simply good at the GAME and complete shit at the SPORT.

its probably a server issue. Im sure i read somewhere thats why they couldnt include a semi search filter as it would cause an overload.
I think Fifa09 was a very enjoyable experience up until about January then something happened to it. Cheaters exploits mainly but the speed of the game increased. Become much more laggy for me too. Im sure UT had something to do with it. Anybody still playing that mode still? I got bored within a week of it. Another mode that the cheaters exploited. I really hope Fifa10 plays a good slow game online. Id be gutted if its still the same

Just had a strange moment during a match.
I won a penalty and the player who was fouled went to the side of the pitch because he was injured.
I tucked away the penalty and the injured player ran from the sideline and joined in with the celebration.
He came back on the pitch for the kick off after that penalty and played the rest of the match with a light injury.

I just discovered you can zoom the camera out!! It's actually a lot better with a zoomed out and lower camera!
Does anyone know how to get national players into club teams ? I can get this to work the other way round (e.g. Santon in the Italian team, or Zarate in Argentina) but I'm trying to add Tymoschock to Bayern and Zhirkov to Chelsea. Both are in the game (Ukraine NT and Russia NT) but I can't seem to get them assigned to club squads for normal play, anyone know if it's possible ?

Cool thanks!
Seeing as 10 is out shortly, I traded in my PS3 version today for a 360 one (after purchasing an Elite last weekend). I just wanted a different perspective on the game and to see how the online works. Plus the club I play in is on a sabbatical until 10.
Played the demo and the pad will take a bit of getting used to.
A few mates who already have 360's said they would dig it out for a game but if anybody else fancies some action then please add me.
I've had a few games as all manual (can't shoot) but nobody does it on PS3, as mentioned above, so went back to my normal config which is all semi but manual on both types of through balls. More than happy to give all manual a go though.

I'm fully manual :SMUG:. Shooting just requires a lot of practice but once you've cracked it there's no going back. The power and accuracy you can get the ball is amazing. The only problem is you have to allow for that float on the ball.

This game is infuriating.
I hold the close control button and attempt to dribble, and a 6stone midget knocks my 15stone striker off the ball with ease.
I punt a long ball forward, the 4ft midget outjumps my 6ft striker.
When my players are tackled, they stumble away from the ball like idiots, while the slide-tackling CPU has time for a nap, before getting up and away with the ball.
When I press and hold sqaure, my striker runs from the other half to press, but a guy close to the ball carrier watches as he glids past.
When I select a defender, he stops, letting the attacker go clear before feebly running after him - still losing ground from someone dribbling.
I try to take it round a player, his momentum means nothing as he instantly changes direction, sticks a leg out and comes away with the ball, my players momentum takes them way past the attacker, letting him get away. On the odd occasion I do tackle, the ball is merely kicked away, straight to an opposition player.
A corner is floated into my box, my defender, having never controlled a ball before, chests it so hard, it bounce away at 100mph to the striker, who taps it home.

I was going to put this in the FIFA 10 thread but that would be off-topic so I'll stick it in here... ;)
After getting fed up of certain issues with the game (see the last FSB podcast), a few people said I should try on fully manual.
What a frigging difference it makes. I'm on manual everything now, struggling to score but when you do you can score some absolute beauties.
At first I was really struggling but after five games, it really is like playing a different game. So if you're getting fed up of the game I highly recommend it!

Welcome to the club ;)
I took the final step to fully manual this morning and I'm now contemplating kicking myself for all the time I've lost playing it on anything other than this!
It's amazing how much more careful and considered my build up play is now rather than just playing a lazy (as in unimaginative) game. My first game finished with me having 54% of the possesion with a passing accuracy of 82% - they are at least as high as me on a good day with semi assistance.
I lost my trial game 2-0 to a City team full of their recent signings but some of my possesion was highly pleasurable.
Amazing how I managed to get some shots and crosses in that I'd never seen in my previous (highly frequent) playing over the last 10 months.
Loving it - the only thing is; I can't imagine me doing so well on this mode after a few sherberts !!

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
You know when a game frustrates you so much you can actually feel the vein in your neck trying to burst? Just had it.
So I'm through on goal, one-on-one with the keeper. I flick the knock-ahead stick forward, and what happens? For absolutely no fucking reason (no mother fucking cock sucking bitch slapping cunting cunting cunting reason)... He back-heels it with his calf muscle (back-calves it?).
This should never, ever be allowed to happen in a game. What possible excuse is there to take pushing forward on the left stick, along with pushing forward on the knock-ahead stick, as "oh he wants to flick the ball backwards into the defenders who are rushing back and completely fuck up any chance of scoring a goal"?
If this isn't blatant, desperate CPU cheating then it's a totally fucked up moment where the game suddenly didn't know the difference between left and right. You decide.
For me this video is everything I hate about PES (more than FIFA funnily enough, but here's the proof that FIFA does it too).
Two words - no excuses.

On a lighter note, have a look at this earthquake after scoring in a game against a friend...
(If you watch it in slow-motion you can see what is actually happening - the ball is zooming from one goal to the other and back again, at light speed, as if being catapulted by ultra-tight nets. Very weird, but it made me laugh.)

I get the same thing with player switching sometimes. My teammate will overlap to find space so I'll pass it to him and then all of a sudden he'll heel it back or he'll just stand still while the defenders catch up. It doesn't matter what I do, if the CPU decides I'm not going through this time, I'm not. Cue brick wall of defenders.
Player switching is the number one thing I'll be looking at along with shooting. It pisses me off a treat when defending and I switch to a defender only for him to run in the wrong direction. Even though I'm holding the right direction. It was beyond a joke the other night.
If this isn't blatant, desperate CPU cheating then it's a totally fucked up moment where the game suddenly didn't know the difference between left and right. You decide.
For me this video is everything I hate about PES (more than FIFA funnily enough, but here's the proof that FIFA does it too).
My opinion has always been that this 'cheating' paranoia in both FIFA and PES is way overblown.
It's not like the CPU is a sentient being capable of deceitful thought. It can't suddenly decide that it doesn't feel like letting you score this one so it'll wave an evil wand and corrupt space and time at the crucial split-second to suit its underhand plans. It's incapable. It's hard enough to code an AI system that does what you expect it to; no dev team is going to go out of their way to write code that enables it to get creatively devious as it goes along.
In the given video example, it's merely a glitch. The ball physics are not perfect, and the animation system used when the player makes contact with a loose ball is not perfect. I'm sure we've all seen how much players struggle with trying to collect bouncing balls in FIFA 09, mine regularly turn into special needs kids when the ball dares to bobble toward them at waist/chest height. This is just a rather unfortunate example of that, to me. An ill-timed bug, one I suspect you would have written off as such and forgotten about had it happened at a less crucial moment. The point being: the CPU doesn't think 'he's through on goal, I'll deliberately fuck with his controls to stop him'. No game is written that way.
The worst and only extent of any so-called 'cpu cheating', in either franchise, is to modify attributes of players to ramp up the challenge in the interest of balancing difficulty. Whether they get the balance right is another matter entirely. You know the kind of thing - you get to a Champions League final, and suddenly their strikers are red hot and yours can't hit a barn door. I can vividly remember one occasion when a friend and I took Rosenborg to said final, having already beaten opponents Arsenal earlier in the season, and in the first two minutes of this game Ljungberg rockets in a goal with such unprecedented accuracy and power, from an angle that you rarely see the keeper beaten, and we just knew that the dial had been turned up to eleven for this final. It's player attribute modification, and perhaps any underlying probability factors that might be involved in the way player actions (shot trajectory etc) turn out.
Gamers can get so easily wound up by seemingly inexplicable events that go against them during a game, especially when they're immersed and therefore care about it. The Game is running The Game - it's easy to get paranoid. Doing so frankly gives the AI's level of awareness far too much credit.
And you'll notice that people never accuse the opposite of happening, like the other day when the CPU team hit my crossbar twice in a row with the goal at its mercy, and as the ball rebounded it took a lucky deflection off a defender nicely into my keeper's safe hands. How unlikely, yet far from impossible, and how convenient for me.
This is an imperfectly simulated environment, it's synthetic and inevitably it will on occasion look/act false. Because it is.
In other words: sometimes, shit just happens. Relax and enjoy the game

Actually that happens on all skill levels and is down to poor collision detection of ball physics versus goalkeeper modelled gloves and is in no way related to skill levels/AI/cheating, happens to both sides (ie AI or human) at all skill levels, it's random as to when and where and is purely a bug/glitch.

Oh god you should come and play some 2vAI with us sometime, we may over analyse the game sometimes but we are just as critical when 'it's' going our way as when we're on the receiving end...
I think anyone who has played enough FIFA or PES for that matter can almost spot the changes in the game as the MM or ML season goes on.
Again others may not see or feel it and it may be after 20 odd full seasons I've gone FIFA blind, but I would hand on heart swear within a game you can tell when something has altered within the game mechanics.
I couldn't tell you why or how but it's there... :JAY:
I've not played enough FIFA to know about the "cheating" due to the league tables, but it just feels as if it's got an unfair advantage all the time with their weak players shoving your much stronger players off the ball (so much for the collisions system, one of the main features of 09...), pass with inch perfect accuracy, control the ball perfectly, turn very quickly, have all their defenders in the perfect positions, win every tackle, react to your movements at lightning speed etc.

Hmmm I think the collision system is overdone and can be very annoying at times. Especially when your own players run into you and knock you over or tackle and bump into you knocking you off balance. I mean your own player, are they blind? Or, you win a tackle or cross and the opposition player falls over and clips you, halting your run. There's other little niggles and clips that happen all the time that would not necessarily knock a heavier player over or off balance, yet every player reacts the same.

havn't they redone the collision system for 10. Thats maybe the thing im dying to see on Friday because it does jar after a while in 09. Funny, coz when 09 came out its what most of us were raving about but after time it kinda just got annoying.

11 August 09, 20:41
Yeah, I hope so. There are seven main things I'm looking out for that really grate on me when I play.
1) L1 player switching
2) Shooting
3) Collision system e.g. little niggly bumps, hacks (as above)etc
4) Reaction times/general floatiness e.g when I press pass I expect you to pass or at least stretch to attempt to pass/shoot, not float your body off balance before you even think about passing/shooting. I don't care if the ball goes miles off target as long as it does what I tell it to.
5) Dribbling, the ability to beat defenders without running into a brick wall.
6) Other team mate awareness/not running in the opposite direction or straight past attacking players/defending in general
7) Goalkeepers full stop
Chris Davies
11 August 09, 20:46
100% agree with all of those, specifically 2-5.
If I can beat a man with a bit of dribbling, without crashing into him like a blind person, I will start dancing. So thank God they're not letting cameras in then.

In regards to your first video Chris...that sort of crap happens regularly on FIFA 09, manual or not manual. It also knocks the ball the opposite way times. It's finally getting to the point where I cant play FIFA anymore because all the bugs have finally come out. Bring on FIFA 10.
Nick Cave
11 August 09, 23:54
AI reactions need to be in there to MJ, the fact they know what you're doing before your player moves, this also leads to it being almost impossible to beat a man without a skill move and even then it's tough.
The same with the keeper, I don't want to see him take two steps to the side I have just pressed to shoot as my player runs up to take the shot...

What sort of collision detection algorithms do EA use for Fifa?
I was in the Arena the other day taking some shots against Kirkland and i zoomed in on a replay using the Orbit cam and i could clearly see Kirkland's hands go through the ball.
Now i know video game technology has it's limitations but aren't NG consoles capable of proper collision detection so models don't go through each other.

Is all manual really worth it?
I tried all manual many months back (didn't finish even half of the game)and to do an accurate pass in FIFA was more of a challenge than it is in real life.
I'm all for realism but in real life it doesn't take half the effort it does in FIFA to do a pass or shoot (that's if

It's hard work mate, I'm the same as you on the Semi-manual front, those that have mastered it swear by it, I play most of my FIFA 2vAI, and my playing partner always hates it when I try to go manual shooting and passing for that matter as you only get a hand full of chances on goal per game and on manual our goal tally would plummet.

For me manual is all about getting into the game and getting a feel for every pass, cross, shot. That's what sets it apart from assisted and even semi passing/crossing/shooting. This is why I believe it is as close to the real thing as possible, because if you mess up the pass it shows, for example. Anyone who has had to put up with the AI for over ten full careers would not see semi shooting as cheating, with the amount of times your striker has suddenly just slowed chasing down a ball or been clipped slightly, or your left back has man marked the corner flag playing everyone and his Grandma onside, or refused to jump against the towering figure of Obafemi Martins as he leaps free to head in in the 92min...

Add to that the fact that at the 85 min mark (especially when you are loosing and desperate for the ball), the AI can suddenly string at minimun 20 pointless fully assisted 1-2's next to the touchline (just out of your 18 yard box)
Don't even bother tackling 'coz you just won't get the ball

I don't really get this myself much, although maybe it's because for one thing if I'm winning at 80+ I always change to defensive or even all out defensive, and I always make my subs around the 70 minute mark so I have fresh legs in key areas :)

Me too, looks sooo realistic when you play defensive and it really does look like a real life defensive match.
But the AI cheat dribbling is my only complaint about FIFA. I'm easy to please so if they fix this for FIFA10 and knowing that they've added so much already, 360 degrees dribbling, custom set pieces etc...I'll be in heaven.

25 August 09, 15:03
Maybe it's just how I defend that helps me not see the "cheat dribble" you mention? I use super cancel + pace control to box attackers into corners, I let them run where they want but keep my defender parallel to either stop them cross or if they do try to cross block the cross, I seldom tackle directly when they're dribbling at pace but will use my defender plus a 2nd defender if required to box them into a corner.

No Placebo trust me the "Cheat Dribble" by the AI is when you can't touch them, you can try everything but you won't the ball and then you get pissed and try to hack them down.
Is it when they keep turning away from you? If it is, it's all about tricking them. The AI is very good at figuring out where you are going based on last steps so swift movement is the key!

You just need to be getting beat with 10 minutes to go then they string a million passes together - running up and down the byline between the goal posts and the corner flag - I "team press" and lo and behold - a perfect cross and they score another.
It worries me that I've read that they looked for this "bug" and couldn't find it as it means it will still be present in 10.

I've seen people somehow get away with doing this on manual as well which leads me to believe that manual passing isn't ENTIRELY manual at all. Obviously it's almost at the point there is no pass assist but I've played against more than a few guys who (after inviting them to a match from a lobby and making it manual w/o them knowing ;)) sometimes are able to just fire a really long and slow pass across the field that my player should be able to pick off. For some reason they just don't respond though.
What really pisses me off though is the guys that get the ball when they realize it's on manual and just hoof it forward to a fast striker. I've come across a number of high ranked guys who use the dream team glitch to put Torres, Ibra, Ronaldo, and classic players on one team and just fire it forward. It's clear that the ball isn't completely detached from anyone as sometimes even my defenders who are close to it will just make a b-line for it. I know they're also using stat boosting as well as I simply cannot get away from any of them.
Question though, manual is obviously a good way to simulate realistic soccer, but I'm not the only one that's found that the constant 2nd defender pressure is still just as powerful on manual as well?
I played against a guy who was admittedly good at shooting on manual (not sure how) because I still can't seem to put shots on target with consistency unless it's a slow roller straight at the keeper, but in addition to his high line, the moment I got close to him he was running at me and my players didn't seem to want to get into any sort of space to receive a pass. Also, when I'd take the ball away from him, he'd recover instantly and just run right back into me.
^^Does anyone know how people do that? Recover and steal the ball back right away, make their players so much faster than mine, and play with this formation/tactics that somehow makes my players never move into space or make intelligent runs (when the game right before, against a different guy, I was able to tear him apart even with him pressuring me) and make my defense play like idiots?
It's only every once in a while that I come across a guy that I simply cannot get past midfield on. There are spaces to exploit, but my players, for some odd reason, never decide to move. And if they do, I get tackled before I can make the pass through to them. This was against a guy who showed up in the "all-manual" thread on EA's forums. I played against one other dude who was good and didn't pressure constantly. The games were fun and realistic. This new guy though is most definitely a cheeser. Didn't even think it was possible on manual. But it is.
They do this until the time is just about over btw, when you do get possession off the ball then the ref blows the final whislte.
No that's PES. FIFA AI cheats but not like that.
Is it when they keep turning away from you? If it is, it's all about tricking them. The AI is very good at figuring out where you are going based on last steps so swift movement is the key!
I fucking hate that. How unrealistic is that shit?

That really amazes me, because if these devs played the game they would spot it with in 2-3 games.
Also who do they get to test the game, apart from the world champion of noobs.

Lol, playing some manual matches again today (of course against unsuspecting assisted cheesers) but the game is just about ruined, if not already.
I think everyone boosts their players up now because I can't tell you how many times I've gotten behind the defense only to have the defender run me down from behind and push me off of the ball everytime without fail. No matter how far out in front I am, I will ALWAYS get caught before I get near the goal.
Nobody I play against can pass for shit, but I can't get near the goal because they just run into me and knock me over.

Maybe I'm late to the party, but have you guys noticed how unrealistic it is when you hit the post? I don't think I ever thought about it before, but it is almost as if the ball leaves the post with less pace. Like if the post was made of soft material.
I think they have fixed this though because on the GC trailer when the Arsenal scores by hitting the post it actually seems to "ping" away like in real life.

The ball always loses way too much momentum when it hits the post, as you say it's like the posts are soft and absorb the impact. When you just shave the outside of the post the ball shouldn't slow down and barely change direction at all and it should actually be hard to tell whether it's hit the post until you see a slo-mo replay, on 09 the ball slows right down and the controller rumbles like there was an earthquake...
Everything you say about football games I always seem to 100% agree with :P.

Yeah I've had that! There was nothing like that on the FIFA0 we played. Not even once was there a moment where we thought the physics were wrong. It was just perfect.

I felt like this last night. Kid I played was pinging it about for about 30 mins. He went to pot after that but I was 1 down by then and was also getting caught up when clean through so couldn't get back into the game.
Games previous to this were brilliant. One was against Notts Forest Matt. Cheers Matt.
Even with frustrations, I believe manual is quality and I'm not even very good at it. It doesn't take long to get half decent at passing so I don't understand why people give up on it so quick.
People moan like fuck about realism and freedom and then when it comes along they give up on it cos it's too hard.
I learned how to "pass" the soft sheets of toilet tissue between my butt crack to wipe my own ass quite well after a while and now I don't need mommy to "assist" me with it anymore (see what I did there :) ).
Shooting, for me, is hard as fuck but I'm not giving up on it. I will score some screamers. I will! Hell, even a tap in will do.

Just need to boot it up long enough to sell my £100m value Cronaldo to get an achievement and that'll be about it :)

15 September 09, 20:03
If you want that achievement you can set the currency to dollars at the start and control a big team, then put their best player on the transfer list and you should get $50m (the achievement is for 50m of your chosen currency, dollars is the easiest one to get), getting the achievement :).

That's the first time you've said that since the game has been released, all you've done for the last 12 months is moan about it! The demo of the new game comes out and suddenly FIFA 09 is the best game in the world! AAARGH!

Woah, never said it was the best game in the world, me no Fan boy;)
It has glitches galore and the player selection on 2vAI can lead to feelings of wanting to kill, but with my mate and a few beers 6 hours zooms by.
I have put so many hours into this game it's untrue and I've never moaned about anything in 09 that did not deserve it :P
I've had a few blasts at the demo and agree some of the tweaks will be great, I still have some issues as you and others have pointed out and I hope EA will listen to us and sort them out.
I'm looking forward to the new MM inclusions but I am 100% certain there will be plenty of stuff to keep me moaning about 10 all next year too...:DD

I was being slightly sarcy. ;)
But still, FIFA 10 has some of the issues fixed so how can you give it a 6 out of 10 in the demo poll, then go back to playing 09 and say it's excellent when it's the game with the most issues out of the two? Or am I alone in thinking that?
I did try to go back to FIFA 09 the other night at a mate's and I couldn't believe how rigid it felt, it felt like going back in time after the 10 demo... But maybe that's just me...

Hehe so was I...
I marked the demo on the demo I have to say and not the final game, there were issues I spotted in 3 Min's each way that in 6 or 7 hours of playing would have me bouncing pads, I know some of these will be fixed and may even have been sorted already, I know it's no doubt an early build too.
I told myself I would not play the demo and maybe I have not given it time to sink in or get to grips with it, like PES of old it was always the case of the new game needing bedding in time to get used to the changes.
I did say though with more playing the score would go up, it just didn't seem to wow me the way it has others, again that may be down to just three or four games...;)
For all 09's faults it's still the best game there is if you want full leagues and 10 will still be that no matter how good PES 2010 it's lack of real leagues in the ML(spit) will always bias me to FIFA10, if the problems are ironed out it will be impressive..

Just read this over at W.E.N.B.
ps3 version tested
What can i say im still in shock at how finetuned and beautifally crafted pes2010 is on the ps3, for me in my whole 20 years of playing konami football games this is there finest hour and mantra from heaven and will be heralded as a classic in the years to come.
From the perfect response times to the passing and first class crossing that you can now hit from any angle and spot on a players head this is the stuff of dreams.
For those who havent realised the shear unlimited scope of this game good times are ahead and how landmark this game is should not be under estimated.
No doubt about it analog is the only way to go if you want to get the best out of the 360 movement and the new found freedom in passing and crossing and all the benefits this gives, the switch is essential otherwise your only getting a glimpse of this games massive protential.
Im not going to give any negatives because that would be unfair because i feel konami have produced the best football game ever made this year that eclipses anyhting that came before it and on the market today and in time even the most sinnacle pesfan will see its inner beauty and level of refinement and fine tuning that is quite simply sublime and perfectly executed.

Any idea what the average trade in value is at Game/Gamestation for Fifa 09, guess it's dropped heavily with the arrival of Fifa 10 soon upon us. That's the problem with these annual release sports games.
Edit: Wow, Cex offer a whopping £5

Playing with 3 mates and some beers, a goalmouth scramble ensues...

One defender suddenly decides to jump and karate kick his teammate to the ground, before the single last defender left standing after the carnage receives a point blank strike to the crown jewels! :DD

I got £3 from Game in the week. It was shocking, i wasn't think properly at the time and agreed to the price but i wish i kept it. For the sake of £3 there was no reason to get rid of it. I usually hate trading in games aswell, i mean i still have Fifa 08.
