tried the stat edit for passing, sprint accel - but reduced by 20 points for villa and spurs - played a game of professional - like playing a new game.

pitch feels bigger, is more time on ball, AI has more time to execute its routines, or at least you have more time to motice them, and the passing pace is just perfect. suddenly i was executing moves i have not managed on FIFA because too much pressing - i.e. a lot more lateral movement and sophisticated moves.

I implore everyone who has this game to at least try this with two teams as i have done - at slow speed it feels almost, almost, like a new game.

KEY - for the two teams you pick to edit the first eleven's stats for, pick them as your favourite team before you start on their players - that way when you exit each player, it returns you to that teams page, rather than your genuine favourite team

BUT YOU MUST TRY IT - the game i played resembled last nights spurs man u game so much - now you can play the rhythmic tiki-taki barcelona type football around teh box cos you actually get time - and then still speed up your play when you want..

shorty alien
25 January 09, 23:11
Yup, you're right, it's like playing a brand new game. You actually have time on the ball to buld your attacks realistically, the AI plays much better beacuse not everything is rush rush ping pong press press, you can feel the player stats better.

Playing on all Manual (if you've learned to) though with the tweak is the real clincher, it's so realistic, apart from the shooting which is flawed anyway.

EA should use this as the real "slow" speed setting, for simulation purists. The changes in pace are more realistic, as you say sprinting up the pitch takes longer and it seems bigger and more spacious.

And those who want to try it should save a new squad file, so they don't overwrite the default file, and can switch between the two.

Can you get them to change where the notification pops up? Ridiculously they pop up completely over the radar on the 360 so you can't see it. I don't want to turn notifications off either as I like to know who's on and what's happening etc. Any one with a brain would have put it in the top right hand corner, just like in Rock Band. No, it's quite balanced. The overall speed of the game is universally reduced, as is the passing speed. Changes in pace can be utilized more realistically, and defending is also based on playing well positionally, with jostling coming even more to the fore.

Murty Fortune Hudson Youga

Soares Spring Bailey Sam

Gray Burton

Randolph

Shelvey

Kickers:
Spring for both corners and free kicks
Burton for penalties

Ok I've left feedback in the DB with the formation/lineup. I can't leave player feedback saying "he should be updated" really as it's not sufficient, if you can take a look at their stats and give some suggestions I can try to leave feedback in the DB.

Feedback such as "he should be raised from 59 to 64" is completely useless I'm afraid and should be left to 12 year old Man Utd fans on the EA forums ;) (no offense intended at all, I just like to keep remaking the point as I despise the whole "overalls" thing).

Go to my fifa 09 profile I think, save/load, sqauds, save a new squad file with a different name. Squads 1 is the default file, the one that gets updated when you go online.

Everytime you want to play with the tweak, load and edit on the new sqaud file, if you want to go back to normal, load squads 1.

Placebo is it possible to direct EA's attention to the Bluchamp threads, about universally reducing all teams acceleration, sprint speed and short passing on the slow speed setting by -15?

It's a massive ask but I've outlined the reasons in this threads last few pages, about making the speed more realistic for the simulation purists, gameplay is taken to a whole new level as mentioned above. Also a lot of people have tried this and it's got some support behind it!

What they should really implement is sliders that affect overall stats, as nba 2k9 does! Then it would be so easy to adjust the game to your liking. But that implies some work (you have to be able to share those sliders, for instance, an dso) and they wouldn't make it for Fifa 09. Maybe for Fifa 10, and I really think those sliders are a MUST HAVE for the game as it would open a wide array of things you could do to the game, incresing a lot the longevity and would allow both arcade lovers and realistic freaks to change a little the game as they want.

Well I know that teams can have their star rating adjusted in this update, I've had permission to improve Leicester's rating for example to match their performance this season (they're currently leading League1 by a long way), so it's possible that if Everton's editor feels an adjustment is warranted they may get it. Although the news that team's are having their star ratings adjusted based on early season performances has probably left Tim rather worried ;)

Yup, I'm aware that they know about it, but was wondering whether it was a possibility to include the idea in the update.

Why would they include something that's untested on a wide scale and quite possibly counter productive to what they intend Fifa to be about?

You and some people say it makes the game more realistic, maybe it does I don't know I haven't tried it, but EA make Fifa for a mainstream audience, what's more realistic and preferable to some quite possible is slow and annoying and unrealistic to the majority of others. The future of course is in more options and choices and sliders and all that but that's not really the EA way.

shorty alien
29 January 09, 12:00
I agree that it can all be subjective. But EA themselves have tried to appeal to different tastes, that is why they have a choice of three speeds and a choice of assisted/semi/manual controls.

Quite a number of gamers who prefer the slower paced build up of Fifa 08's speed feel shafted. The apparently "slow" speed doesn't feel slow at all, it's more like a watered down but still too similar version of the normal speed, the game still feels too quick, ping pong like and dependent on pace and strength; its not really a slow speed meant for a tactical simulation (which is what I assume they intend by including such a speed).

But then again it's just opinion, but as I mentioned it is getting a bit of support behind it in those threads (and is a general complaint when simulation fans talk about ways to improve Fifa). I'm speaking about editing the slow speed only, not the others that will obviously appeal to different gamers.

The global sliders idea is a good one though, even if i don't expect the actual idea to be implmented the sliders would make the game much easier to customise, as would expanded edit options like PES.

Placebo
29 January 09, 12:06
I prefer the slower pace of Fifa08 but I'm happy with the "slow" setting of Fifa09, the only thing I wish for Fifa09 was that it was harder to break down the opposition in terms of 1on1's, for that I'm probably going to do a formation edit for all Prem/Championship teams once the transfer window roster update comes out as that should be my final new Manager Mode before Fifa10.

Rob92
1 February 09, 00:41
I find that using manual through balls for short-range passes and little first-time flicks and only using the normal passing button for the through balls you want to play ahead of players greatly helps your game on manual settings :).
Oh and you should also nudge your auto-switching up to around 3/4, because I find that it cuts down on your player not "locking on" to the ball and just walking by it.

evacuate
1 February 09, 12:11
I agree, manual normal passes should be used for through balls and longer passes. Through balls should be used for short passes only because they load up to slow. I used to play semi on normal passes and rest on manual but I gave normal passes a chance on manual and they are great when used like this.

I'm going to try this question again: How do you flick up the ball when receiving a pass? I've seen it a couple of times, I think the flick up is knee high maybe.

I'm sure pressing R3 with L1 lifts the ball knee high to avoid sliding tackles though I have never managed it, maybe it's that...

1 February 09, 14:12
Holding the skill button (default LT) and quickly flicking the analog stick 3 times in the direction the player is facing flicks the ball up, but i'm not sure if that can be done first time.
I have seen the ball flick up randomly when players take some passes, sometimes setting up a volley, but I don't think there is a way to do it deliberately.

1 February 09, 15:49
I find that with certain players if you hold the skill stick and flick the analogue stick in an opposite direction from where the pass arrived he'll flick it over, for some reason I can only do it regularly with Wade Small and he's shit, confusing.......

MM physical simulation is a bug all round, AI constantly sends out squads at 25% fitness, yet they can play the whole match running around for 90 minutes with no apparent issues other than bending over with hands on hips when the ball goes out of play and of course players are never, ever injured for more than 7 days.

Well, in my MM with Man United, Hargreaves got injured in april and was expected back in august :)) But that is the first and only time it has happened.

The good thing is you enjoy the game a lot. The not so good thing is that regardless of your skill level, if you had put all this hours into online you would have made it to the top 10. That speaks for itself about how rankings are set up in the online part of the game...

It's probably more than 21 TBH, we have five hour bashes some 3 or 4 times a week sometimes longer, they soon rack up especially once you have loads of tactics set, you can just tweak things and the fact there is no real depth to MM does not help.
It's sad I hardly ever play online the idiots wind me up and I usually have a mate round playing MM when I have it on anyway...

As Placebo has put so nicely...

2 February 09, 22:16
I was being ironic, I don't like very much online. I only play with close friends, unranked matches with different teams everytime and our sami-manual control layout. I don't know if I'have even played any ranked match yet, truly.

But that's ok to me, because online I will onlky play close friends or, in the near future, an online MM mode against all of you, signing your star youth players and selling them to your most bitter rival. That's said!

Hi guys. A while earlier I complained about fifa's framerate. Well, I have had a new insight in the matter. I lended out my PS3 to a friend and when we hooked it on his non-hd tv, and played fifa in 520p(something like that) via scart, the game played like butter. It was smooth and fast like it suppose to be. Incomparable with the hd ready experience. Response times are indeed a framerate issue, believe me. What where they thinking? People with HD tv's only care about graphics anyway?

I find that using manual through balls for short-range passes and little first-time flicks and only using the normal passing button for the through balls you want to play ahead of players greatly helps your game on manual settings :).
This is a really good tip actually, it's helping me a lot. The softer touch of the through-pass button makes short passes a little easier.

3 February 09, 11:16
I played an exhibition game yesterday with manual passing and it was lovely. I remember trying manual passing in October and hating the experience but since then I've gotten into a rhythm with the game play and it definitely feels a lot better now.

It may be a while before I start playing with manual passing as default but I'll get there eventually.

I was tempted to edit their pressing settings but then you just end up making every team a clone, so I figure pulling the CBs of every team back to the goal line should be enough, if they don't have a high attacking mentality they should be much harder to break down, but if they start chasing a goal and attack more then and only then should the spaces arise.

This is how it worked for the September update when it was released October 6th last year.

You only need 1 activated league in ALS, when the update is out, and you click "DOWNLOAD LATEST UPDATE", the squad file will be the newest one for every league, and of course will also include ALS data for the league you have active.

The online squad file is now kept separate and hidden from the Offline squad file and is only stored and used for online matches.

andish2001

For those having trouble getting it to work for offline use, simply download it via als. So Reset all squads first, then ALS > download latest update. If you havent enabled als you need to do so now via the code on your manual. downloading it this way it will automatically save as the default squads. Of course, there are some strange bugs with the transferred players as there are with every fifa transfer update, for example if you have say quaresma in the arena (recently transferred) and play a match, when it returns to the menus he will be in portugal stuff, althogh if you go to squads hes still at chelsea. fifa updates always been like that its a tad strange.

I have a question this update is available in all location on 360 & PS3( America, Europe, etc) and the patch for fix number 2 bug in Manager Mode is not available anymore?

yeah i just finished putting them all in the game a minute ago. theres some problems with a lot of the players on that list though, the finder finds them but all their stats are scrambled and they're registered as goalkeepers.

Is there a couple of errors or a load? Is it worth starting a thread to compile the transfers that we need to correct?

i meant errors within the game, not the list. although there are a few players at different clubs, a lot of the korean players play for the j-league teams now.

Nasri's appearance has NOT been improved, at least as far as I can tell. Ronaldo did not receive a real face because that would be stored as an image file, or as placebo calls it, an "art asset" :P which wasnt applicable to the update. There are some EXTREMELY strange errors which have come with this update. Some goalkeepers for example have been ditched from their regular teams into free agents, have strange hex symbols as their squad number and have an overall rating of 0. The search function is also having a few difficulties with regards to the recently transferred players as well.

Although contrary to what ive said above, there are reports that Atlante's shirt has been updated, which would be an art asset so now im really confused.

i know all about the Db x art assets...
i thought though, that ronaldo's real face was already in the game, just not assigned.

Is it possible to remove or change the ALS league?

I activated ALS for the first time last night to get the update and chose the EPL but now Team Management always has arrows even with ALS turned off in the advanced options.

Apparently deleting Fifa from the memory on the 360 HDD prompts you to pick a league again for ALS (I'd like to pick a league I don't use)

However, I don't really want to lose all my formations so can anyone say which file specifically needs deleting for it to re-prompt the ALS update?

In Memory on my 360 there are these three files:

Online Squad - 3MB
Squads 1 - 1MB
Personal Settings 1 - 92kb

Are my formations stored in Personal Settings?

How's everyone finding the update, any issues (apart from the ones andish2001 has already mentioned)?

Bizarrely I've not seen those problems andish2001 is talking about, but I've got a problem nonetheless - my manager mode game now takes 20 seconds to save (I've had to switch autosave off, otherwise you're looking at a minute of loading time from getting out of a match, looking at transfers and loading the next fixture). The music cuts off and the Xbox freezes until the end of the process.

This may be the Xbox on the blink rather than the update but this wasn't happening two nights ago...

Otherwise I'm very, very happy with it - they've updated the Tranmere stats wonderfully (thanks Placebo ;))), Curran who is practically a first team player now has had his stats up whereas a few others who are underperforming have been knocked down, and all of the appearances are now spot on. So I'm really happy to start a new manager mode game (when I can fix the above problem anyway) and I'm really happy with what EA are doing with their database. Pisses all over the PES database and is at least equal to the FM database IMO. Gives the game such depth.

Yay me!

Remembered another edit I plan to do, remove every goalkeeper from every team's subs bench, seeing as GK's are never sent off/injured it's pointless to have them there, by giving the AI an extra outfield sub it might reduce the amount of times they bring an LB on for a RW.......

The stats for some Spurs players after the update are baffling, Bent, Lennon and Palacios are all the highest @ 84 whilst Modric and JD are both 76.

Our first choice LB is now rated at 69 whilst our out of form LB (Gareth Bale) is rated higher at 70. Jermaine Jenas is a 83 whilst the rock solid Corluka is 78.

How do EA rate players? What things to they take into consideration?

EDIT: In online games the stats are a bit different, in all honesty we shouldn't be a 4 and a half team.

Unrelated to the update but is it possible to set up an offline league with a bunch of teams for me and my friends to play for an extended period of time?

For example six of us choose teams, and then it creates a league table with points, goals, games played, who plays who next etc?

I know there is a lounge mode but that is pretty silly and doesnt have a realistic league structure.
