My online club (Xbox360) is CaRiCaS FC, we're currently ranked 29th in division 1 with a 55-16-16 record. Is anyone here in one of the top teams?

there is 2 difernt files, one for offline and one for online...
but if u start editing your offline file after u get the new one(when u sing up for the adidas live season) this file surprizinly works onile too!! which is a dream come true for me , personally...
i dunno if it works on ranked games, i doubt really, but i did use it lots of time yesterday night on unruanked macthes...
it works only for your team, so supose u changed rooney's boot for a generic white one, he will have white boots on your team, but in the oposion team he will have whatever boots that guys has set rooney to.
really this made my day yesterday! when i saw all my everton and cruzeiro edits online this gave me an extra boost...
i have a file , if anyone wants(PS3) with many many apperance corrections(updated boots, shirt tucked/untucked, wristbands) , its maily focused on the EPL, Brazilian league and top prospects... i think this adds a lot to the game! :)
Sweet!
So the key here (when you say; "but if u start editing your offline file after u get the new one") is to save a file for online first and then save another for offline, make your edits, save, and ouila!!! Correct?

yeh, the key is to start editing after u sing up the adidas live season, so u edit over that file....
i would say:
1-get the online squads by trying to start and online macth
2-sing up adidas live season(so ull get the offline squads.)
3-start editing
4-aways keep a backupcopy of your file
ps. another cool thing is that any lineup , tatics or fk, pk assignmets edits will go online too! :)
and u can also use created players...only unruanked offcourse :)

Really appreciate you clarifying this for me mate. I beleive you have the PS3 version. I will be playing the 360 version..Wonder if this still applies for 360 version. I certainly hope so since I would like for my edits to make it online as well.
Anyone 360 users can confirm this please?

...might I suggest that there is no such enforcing whatsoever like "the EA people claim", and is just a lame excuse for EA to ship two games in the same year? ;)
Like, "the same EA people" who said that the player number feature was removed because it is a feature which was used by few people, and had a high maintenance cost?
Or "the same EA people" who claim that next-gen FIFA doesn't go to the PC market because "current PCs can't handle it", instead of admitting that EA doesn't really dedicate that much of their budget to PC because it doesn't sell as much as the console games? ;) This latter argument in particular angers me. I seem to be the only person with a technical background who can't believe that they are claiming this. They are turning their lack of effort budget-wise into a marketing hyperbole
Honestly, this is by no means a criticism. What I want to point out is that, in the end, it's all just business and money.
I understand why they don't want to pour money into the PC version, as well as why they would want to release two games a year - Konami does the same in Japan (I remember when they even released three, so...).
I would totally understand that Konami would rather sell a UEFA CL game on the side, but then again, there will be that rumored DLC which people will have to pay for if they want to have it... Maybe that's their version of things this year.
Best regards,
Paulo Tavares
My sentiments exactly. I was actually just asking this question in the PES board to see if they would know more about Konami's decision to include it as a mode within' the game. Surely when EA get the license back they won't be able to try and release a separate game yeah? I wouldn't put it past them to try again, but maybe they're banking on all the little kids that buy the game not knowing what PES is and not knowing that they actually offer the mode in-game. It's really annoying though when you know that EA can do 100x better than Konami with the license and if they were to put that in the game as a part of Manager Mode even that would be amazing.

Yes. That is why it's a good idea to download the FLV file and then upload it to LiveLeak.com and share with us in the FIFA09 Video thread, and you can post as many as you like :)).

BAPS pissing me off a bit!!
I am a attacking right mid - Yet whenever I get a first team start for Arsenal they put me in defensive midfielder!!
I just scored two goals from that position and got a 9 - I am back in the reserves. The manager said in the paper that i wasn't a reserve player I was too good - yet he keeps putting me back in the reserves!!!!
The objectives are shit aswell - first team match against man u - we had objectives of beat them by 3 goals. I was to have 4 shots on goal and get an 8. Keep in mind that I am a defensive midfielder - so In order to get the shots on goal I need to be out of position - so my rating of 8 is in danger.
Along with the fact that it stops recording succesful passes and stuff whenever it wants to!!!!
Its really frustrating - But I do love playing it. If only they sorted out all this little shit it would be fantastic.
Oh well, I guess I will have to put up with it  the rest of BAP is really good.

Only one thing is annoying me at the minute and that's playing as Tranmere in MM. On "professional" I'll win every game 3-0, on "world class" Northampton play with unbelievable strength, they seem to have a man everywhere, half your passes are as weak as piss so that they can collect them all, and they end up winning 1-0 because of said intercepted passes.
It's so much more fun playing as Liverpool in MM, it's a totally different game. Play Stoke, win 2-0, play Everton, draw 1-1, play Arsenal, lose 2-0. So much variety, easy games mixed in with real challenges. Playing in League One there's very little variation between each team's strength - understandably, I suppose. But it's really frustrating trying to beat anybody.
I can understand why people never use lower-league teams online, the reactions are chopped in half (as if they don't take enough of a reduction when playing online) and every shot rises like a balloon attached to three other balloons. But I'm determined to stick with Tranmere and move to Liverpool at a later point in my career, seems stupid starting your career at the top - where else is there to go from there?
I've managed to win one game out of seven so far in my new save, and that was only because Yeovil have half a star less than us. I was jumping for joy though, hopefully I can win another one before I get the sack.

Just got my 360 back yesterday, thankfully (I thought) in time for FIFA 09 next week here in the U.S. I'm playing FIFA 08 today and in the middle of a BAP match i get the message "disc is unreadable." I try to open the tray, doesn't open. I turn the system off and then on again, tray doesn't open. Call MS, system needs to be sent in again. 2 weeks. What the f*ck?

One question for the game.Important for me.
How good is the online mode (1 vs 1) compared to multiplayer offline (1 vs 1)?
I ask this because of my experience on previous pro-evo games i played (mostly pes5, the last good pes game). I mean when i played online it was not as responsive as offline and feel a little scripted. I remember also that in online mode there was no crowd in the stands.
Is fifa online that way or somethink similar?

After my above moan at how impossibly hard it is to be Tranmere on "world class", I had to play Leeds United in the Carling Cup at home. Tranmere are 1.5 stars, Leeds United are 2.5 stars. I was thinking it would be my last game of the night.
I edited the formation to bring the entire midfield back four or five "notches", changed the defensive arrow of the CMs to "high", and created a new bunch of tactics; modified counter-attack to be more defensive. On top of that, I switched my through-passing onto manual, to try and stop the constant interceptions.
I won 2-1 with a penalty in the last minute of extra time. I have never, ever gone that beserk over a game before in my life, there is a big scrape across the wallpaper opposite me from some retarded side-kick/flop/roll I performed. I used to think PES was satisfying when you beat the "cheating bastard arsehole shitting computer" - didn't come close to that.
Half-time I was 1-0 up, I intercepted one of their passes (the irony) and knocked it to Ian Moore who knocked it on twice, knocked it to the opposite side of the keeper and in it went. Within ten minutes of the second half starting they scored, a cross was headed away straight onto their winger's foot again, who crossed it in for a second time and someone popped up to head it in despite heavy pressure (it felt like one of those goals you could do nothing to stop).
Michalik got sent off for an awful tackle from behind - it was a terrible challenge - and so I went onto the default "counter-attack" tactic, thinking "stuff the defence". From that point on we had more possession but couldn't get the ball into the box (never mind into the net). Last minute of extra time, I hit a fantastic manual through-ball right onto Craig Curran's foot, and the Leeds CB had to make the tackle or else I would have buried it. He mistimed it and the referee pointed to the spot. Bang, 2-1, next round here we come.
What a game.

It's slightly less responsive online but it's not so bad if you play someone in the same country. It's a noticeable difference but it won't ever be perfect, it's as good as you can sensibly hope for IMO.
EDIT: I've just noticed an option in the online menu of the game that allows you to restrict ranked and unranked matches to players within your "area" (I'm presuming that means country) - it's switched off by default, I've just switched it on. You can restrict it to similarly-ranked players as well.

What a game.
tweaking the position of players from the default tactics seems to be a necessity - especially for the weaker teams.
After getting Wigan in the 360 league I tried a few games and got humped by people choosing Barca, Liverpool etc etc
Then I went in and put my defense back a bit and pulled the full backs inwards a bit - to tighten up the defence. I also changed a few attacking arrows etc.
I played again with my new set up and It was completely different - everyone I played found it hard to get past my defence. I beat a guy who was atletico Madrid 2-0 but I totally dominated the whole game. He didn't even get a sniff!!
(I know that people in the league will be better than the people I played - but still, it was such a difference)
So it makes a big difference setting up your team - especially defensively.

Well I voided my 360's warranty, it's from the US and I'm in Brazil so it doesn't matter cuz the warranty doesn't count in other countries. So I have to pay for it to get repaired.
So I got some error on graphics card, I was lazy to bring it to the local shop so I kept it for 3 weeks collecting dust. After I brought it there, they were able to fix it in a couple of days and they left it on testing for 3 days, but then it crapped out on the day that I went to pick it up. Now it's been like a month and they said that they're having trouble fixing it...
So I haven't even played the Fifa 09 demo yet! :CURSE: And there's just a dozen of great games coming out in September-October-November! I'm missing out on all of them!!!! AHHHHH

Hello guys!
I have the ps3 version of the game and I was wondering what level does everybody play the game on?
I play on Legendary and the only thing I find annoying is that alsmost every shot that the CPU controlled team makes goes into the hands of my GK. And it doesn't matter if it is a long shot or a close one.
They result in having about 15 shots in a 6 min game and most times they don't even score once...
What's your opinion?

What control settings do you use? I personally prefer all manual (shooting on semi) to synthetically increase the game's difficulty which allows for playing in a lower overall difficulty setting.

I'm trying to play a quick ranked/quick unranked game and it says "no opponents available" straight away, and when I try to create a game it says "the team play servers are currently down" (even though I'm trying to start a normal 1v1 match). Hopefully it'll be fixed by tonight...

I disagree - My team play really shit sometimes.
I have to get them to challenge for headers properly and run towards 50/50 balls!! its beginning to piss me off. In the Arsenal reserves there are two players that just don't pass the ball!! they run around and around then get tackled!!!
If I leave them alone - they very rarely tackle the other team properly and challenge for balls. Its sooo frustrating!!!

Ok mate I set 3 avatars for the XBOX 360 FIFA 09, EURO and TIGER 09
What it sounds like is you have saved your avatar for WEB (I made this mistake). You have to make a separate one for each game. Yoou can keep them the same if you like.
At the top of the screen lists all the games. Click on FIFA FOOTBALL > (you will now have New Items, Equipped, Headgear etc) > Click on for options to buy and so on > Then Save Avatar.
And repeat the process for each game.
You also have the option to buy from EASW Store, the items you have unlocked in-game.
It worked for me. Good luck :TU:

I'd agree that the AI is generally imrpoved over 08 BAP. The rating system can piss me off a bit though, it can seem fairly random at times. I think the '-Pass' for every cross that doesn't connect has been pretty well documented. Sometimes I will ask for the ball when I am in space and get a negative mark when the AI decides it would be much better to just hoof the ball upfield instead, which doesn't seem quite right.
It's a bit frustrating as BAP is by far my favourite mode in 09 but I'm struggling to get the ratings to progress.

What's your opinion?
im seeing the same thing as u...the cpu shoots are either flying over the bar or in areas where my GK can aways parry de ball..
i think in maube 100 games i played so far ive only seen the cpu score from outside the box once, Elano.
I currently play on World Class, and when taht goal happen it was on pro, one of my first macthes...now on world class seems the CPU will never score from long range... :( they only score by headers and some rebounds... and this is getting annoying becasue im not affraid at all to let the cpu rack from outside thebox, which takes a lot of excitiment from the game.

Not a deal breaker, just a minor gripe, but why can't EA get player skin tones right? at least give us the option to edit players appearance
Fifa 09 + Adidas Live Season (All Leagues) purchased for PS3! I`m really enjoying the game!
One question: Can I somehow call good heading defenders like Vidic and Ferdinand to come up on corners?
Pretty sure you can't. This is one thing FIFA has never gotten right and one aspect WE/PES has over them this year (they have a dedicated menu for it). In FIFA people who come up to the box for corners always seem to be random, so you'll often see likes of Neville, Evra, Park, and Scholes in the box. Setting the team mentality to Ultra offensive might change things, but I think it is still very much random. If anything, I think it would bring up the defenders you'll have set the attack arrow to, which means they are most likely your side backs. You won't want that in most cases.
The most surefire way of doing this is to swap the forwards manually (since forwards will always be in the box) with the central defenders, and this is good idea for Man U since you won't want Rooney or Tevez in the box for headers. Very annoying to do over and over again for every set play, but I do it when I really need a goal.

Ok, so the Adidas Live Season only works with "online" mode correct?
After you purchase, it saves under your gamertag, so it will only kick in when you log into online games correct?
Also, the game comes with updated rosters correct?
Someone please answer me, JB???

Oh man...that's not what I wanted to hear. I'm gonna have to buy the PS3 version as well as the 360 version. I'd much prefer the 360 version for online and controller. Why EA, Why!!!
I would appreciate it if someone would PLEASSSSE! upload side by side vids of both versions showing the net animations on the same goal/nets. This would surely put this rumor to rest for me and help me save some money in the process.Money?
So you'd buy the version just because it supposedly has different nets?

Has anyone else noticed that there are two different types of elastico? One is the normal one that was in 08, with the same upper body movement and the other looks more "lazy" with little upper body movement, I only players I have noticed who do this are Roberto Carlos and Dossena.
I wonder if any of the other tricks have different animations for different players.

I'm sure someone's noticed this but is anyone else a bit disappointed with the running animations this year? I'm still gonna buy the game as I can't get enough of soccer, and I've never wanted to play PES, but that's what I was reminded of the moment I played the demo. Why'd they go so crazy with the little kid/cartoon character running animations this year?

Yeah. Ronaldinho ur such does a more advanced version of the elastico, while less skilled players does a simpler version. Skilles players move the ball further to the sides with the ball on their foot in the air, while "poor" players just make a tiny flip flap with the ball on the ground.

Do you know what's ridiculous? That it's possible to pressure the whole fvcking match. Just played a guy who had 5 of my 6 defending players covered with me having possession in my own box. And he could do it the whole match. It's just so unrealistic.
I won the game, but it's not much fun this way. And this is an extreme example, but almost everyone pressures all the time early on. It makes the game so much less realistic.

Never seen/tried it myself to constant press but I would guess the stamina will remain good because it only drops while sprinting right? Maybe it drops a very tiny bit when not sprinting but it can't be much. In real life, when you have high press you will get tired of the constant moving and chasing ball even if you're not sprinting and I think that this is not simulated in FIFA 09.
Tired players seem to have pretty good passing accuracy and shooting too. A tired player should be more penalised on its attributes imo, even other attributes like reaction time.

Yup, I hate playing guys that do this. I especially hate playing BAP when people just use the second defender shit and 2 ANY players all game. It's possible to beat (if you're not playing with randoms who don't like to pass) but at the very least their guys should get tired. The thing is the fatigue gauge drops to very low, but they're still able to run all match. EA caters their online game to little kids.

I am playing (on Profi) with a second Division Team from Germany and shooting (Semi) is way to hard. I can't score a goal from outside the box. Every shoot goes wide and/or over the bar or simple has not enough power (if i manage to hit the target).
If you play a good Team with good Players it works ok and you can score outside the box. But with weaker Players it is way to hard. So you be forced to pass the ball until you can find your way into the box. But with a bad team it is very difficult to get into the box too. I lost my last 5 games without scoring a single goal.
Playing with a good Team (i used to play with Bayern) i score 2-3 a Match. It is just with weaker Teams and that is frustrating as hell.

Im suffering with the same problem mate. Im using Luton Town on professional with shooting on semi and rarely do I score from outside the box. Even in inside their finishing is so appalling even with finesse that its either saved by the goalkeeper or goes wide. With teams like Liverpool or Arsenal its a completely different matter. But I suppose its realistic. We just need to get better at the game. :)

Yesterday Evening i really was thinking i must be the baddest Fifa Player in History. I hope you are right and it will be better, if we manage to get better someday.
I mean it is still fun playing with such a weak Team. Every Match you need to fight your heart out. And it is great Joy if you manage to win a Match where all odds are against you. But sometimes the shooting is killing me. Sometimes i just feel i cant do any better and my player still miss the target (and yes you're right, even with finesse shots inside the box it happens way to often).

Just read a lot of topics in the official feedback forum. If EA listen to the consumers then FIFA 2010 will be shit. Sure there are some good feedback, but most seem to be about ruin the realism...
A lot of people complain about the bookings after advantage has been played, it's like they don't now anything about football at all. So frustrating to read it. I hope FSB makes a good list of good feedback that they value more than the kids feedback over there.

My two main gripes about the game are:
1) Most of the shots go in the GKs hands either it's me shooting or the CPU.
2) If a foul is made and the ball remains in your possession the advantage is given but after a second or so EVRY TIME the referee stops the game to award the foul! It's so frustrating...
On the other hand, when the same happens to the CPU controlled team that never happens. Advantage is played like it should have...
Is there any solution to this problem?
Cheers!

I was in a 1 v 1 game and in the last 20 mins of the match. I sent a ball through to Owen but the guy who passed it was hacked down. The game let me have the advantage and i ran on, chipped the keeper and as it was bouncing across the line the game pulled the ball back for the free kick.
So because I kicked the ball away it took that as i hadn't gained an advantage.

My patience has run out now. The same gripes that haunted 08 have come back again and now I cannot stop seeing them in my games.
I've got 2 MMs - one as Wycombe in Lg2 and one as Charlton in the CCC.
Wycombe was going ok, but I have the same problem as Chris - all the games are the same - but that said, it was enjoying it to a point.
The Charlton MM is horrible. The matches are pad-throwingly frustrating and EVERY game follows the same pattern.
1) Knock it around as 'thats the way to play FIFA'.
2) Try to dribble forward and have the ball nicked off your toes every time.
3) Try to play long ball - cut out by defender.
4) Try to get ball wide - every sort of cross cut out by defender.
5) Try to pass it around quickly - animations slow to react.
6) Shoot from distance - ball flies over.
7) Rinse and repeat every fucking game in a 46 game season.
The thing that really spoils FIFAs gameplay for me are the animations - and I'm not saying that as some graphic-whore-saddo. Let me explain!
The animations ARE superb and yea, better than PES blah blah - the problem I am on about is every pass has to go through the 'trapping animation' and in that split second, you can most likely lose the ball.
The right-stick trapping doesnt seem as effective - it either does nothing or if you hold it down, knocks it too far away. Same with long balls, you always see the jumping up chest animation where 9 times out of 10, the ball bounces 10 feet away from you.
This is one good thing with PES is that they have an animation that is organic to where the ball is bouncing. I.e. if its waist high, you might do a crouching header, if its bouncing up knee high - a jumping back heel etc.
Just means the game flows so much better as its not stop/start/lose ball all the time when building attacks.
There are (horrible) faults with both games, but I know I will play PES more, so FIFA is no redundant.
I'll be sticking on AVF tonight for around £30 as I'm off to Roots Hall now.
Wish I could like it - but hey, maybe FIFA 2010 :))

Don't play on assisted then
I wasn't, but tried it because everyone else is using it which makes it completely unfair, I don't know why people use assisted, the game is shit with it. Pro Evo is probably better than assisted FIFA. It's not about winning, I would be happy just to play unranked every game but even there everyone is playing assisted.
And don't say play full manual because no one is playing full manual and you are lucky to string three passes together.

Nobody I have played has used manual, and I think most have been using assisted rather than semi too because every single pass seems to have been straight to feet. I use semi and quite a few passes get misplaced (probs because im Stoke).
As I don't know if the other person is using manual or not, I can't really take the risk of playing them with manual myself, as the advantage they get from it drives me insane. I have all but given up trying to beat people who use assisted on manual settings, it's pretty much impossible on 09. On 08 it was a bit easier.
If I get an AI teammate to pressure the opposition while I try and block a passing lane, the AI teammate doesn't tackle properly.
If I try and tackle the opponent with a player i'm controlling, the AI teammates don't block passing lanes and sometimes watch the ball roll right in front of them instead of taking it.
That means that in 3 or 4 passes, they can be from their keeper to their striker, with a one-on-one with a defender, and if they have a bit of pace then almost every time it's a goal (especially from assisted finesse shots across the keeper).
As the saying goes:
"If you can't beat them, join them"
I'm afraid I am having to do that now and play on mostly assisted myself, and it's a shame as FIFA is at it's best and most realistic when it's played on manual.

I can't believe it was like that in 08 and they didn't sort it out for 09, as I've been saying, for me it ruins the game because the "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" saying doesn't apply to me, I couldn't care less if I beat people I just want to play a realistic game. In the games I played on assisted I got no satisfaction from scoring whatsoever, sometimes I would press a random selection of buttons in my own area and it would result in a perfect 30 yard through ball to my wingers. I mean it's worse than Pro Evo like that.
My only hope is that given the fun I had in 2 minute games on the demo, maybe the offline modes will offer some kind of consolation.
I'm just really fucked off that they seem to be oblivious to this problem, I've posted on EA but if they didn't sort it out this year I hardly think it's going to be changed next year.
Anyway, as it seems I can't refund my xbox given it's been used now, where can I find you lots gamertags etc?

I just find it even less satisfying getting annihilated by some cunt who thinks they are great at the game when the CPU does all the work for them and then run around for ages celebrating, then watch all their replays. I have offline and some mates to play against still though, but this against random people is no fun at all for me now.
Oh and the fact that EA fucked up the manual through balls, on 08 they were more effective than the assisted ones, with them powering up fairly quickly and the assisted ones usually being easy to intercept. Now, the manual through balls take forever to power up, meaning you have had the ball taken from you when in the process of powering up the pass and the assisted ones being much more accurate, harder to intercept and even curling round your defenders when the best passers play them.

I just had a couple of matches against my bro on semi and it was absolute class, perfection almost. It makes it even harder to swallow. I have good tolerance but will I sit there why some cunt presses through ball three times to Torres, "outside of the boots" it into the top corner and then runs about doing the robot, no thanks. Like that, it's a game for kids and nothing more.
If anyone who plays semi can post there gamer tags or something I will add you, have added mine to my profile.
I was theorising a little, and I think the reason they've not allowed a semi option is because there is no way to set all options to semi. Through balls and lob passes can only be manual or assisted. This is just really stupid imo, either add semi for those options or just create another control settings "type" that is semi everything and manual for anything that doesn't have semi.

First time I've managed to play Fifa 09 at a mates house. Its really good! I only got to play 3-4 games but the animations are so fluid and crisp, its a joy to watch being played as well as playing the game itself. Slide tackles are great I must say! I love the fact the ball can end up anywhere depending on how cleanly you win the tackle. One time I slid in on my mate and he fell over a few yards away, but the ball carried with his body so he was in a perfect position to stand up and carry on with the ball. Just a small thing like that can really impress your experience when playing the game. Passing is spot on and timing & pulling out a weighted through ball can be nearly be as satisfying as scoring.
Some minor response times that niggled me after playing with the very response PES over the years but as i said, only niggles and nothing I couldn't overcome with practice and getting used to the game.
I'm not sure if you can edit players individual stats but if you can't then thats a major let down for me after editing and tweaking players attributes over the years on PES. I suppose you have to judge the developers judgment if that is the case.
I hardly got to experience the game as a whole including the BAP mode and manager mode (this is surely better than master league?) so I look forward to playing more at my mates house in the future :P

i cant believe that you guys are getting so upset for this reason. i mean you say that you get mad because someone who uses assisted beats you, but you know that it was your choice playing him on manual. im actually trying to play on manual for the last few days trying to feel the satisfaction and the realism that everyone is talking about and i have lost every singlegame but i feeel no satisfaction when i score. i mean if i was controlling the player or passing or shooting with my leg i would say there is more realisn but its just your fingers. anyways all it takes is time to master the skill

These are the choices we have for 1v1 online:
1) Just play a quick match, and 99% of the time play against some Man United whore who just passes the ball up the pitch to Ronaldo, runs, then just does an outside of the boot shot into the top corner or something.
2) Try and search for or create a fully manual match, and either have nobody join yours or not find another manual room
3) Play mates, but if they're not online or don't want to play at that time then you're stuck with 1 and 2.
As somebody else said - on assisted, this is just a kids game and PES probably beats it as a fully assisted game. 4 one touch passes up the pitch from defender to striker, then a 20 yard sprint, then a shot across the keeper, followed by a robot or backflip is just for kids and I find no fun in that whatsoever.
Assisted should be done away with in all football games forever - you wouldn't have a first-person shooter online with auto-aim, you wouldn't play a flight simulator with auto-pilot etc. It's the same thing really, there's no football brain or anything required with assisted, it's a joke.
You say about it not being realistic because it's your fingers, not your feet. Does that mean that no video game is ever realistic as you don't use the body parts you would do in real life? Pretty silly thing to say really.

i have one question...
what is that small rectangular box in the upper left hand corner, in a 1 v 1 online match?

rob, with all do respect, what if u play with the d-pad like me??
i mean, when i had the 360, i aways used semi or manual settings because the controler was perfect to play with the analog stick, now im playing in a ps3...i just cant use the PS controler analog, so i gotta use the d-pad....if i set semi shooting or manual all my shots will go wide because of the simple fact that the d-pad only has 8 directions..so when aiming at the goal its either strainght at the middle os wide...
im currently using all assisted setting except crosses, and i see no otherway of playing the game using the d-pad, and im loving the game atm, i just dont like the way the AI attacks, they force the arial play(crosses) too much, and 95% of their goals are scored by headers...i would like to see the cpu more dangerous from outside the box.

Online 1 vs 1 was shitting me out of it's arse last night.
First game, I select Spurs, then my opponent changes from West Ham to Barcelona. Game starts well, plenty of dangerous play. However, my goalkeeper throws the ball straight forward at Eto when I selected to throw to Corluka on the wing. Goalie was stranded, 0-1. I dominate play, hit post and have a shot actually trickle onto the line. He gets a massive deflection in the centre circle and Eto runs free to do the usual curl shot into the top right corner. I get the game back to 2-2 with hard work, then just after I've equalized the game freezes for 2 seconds. Upon "unfreeze", I see Messi is through on goal and my keeper is out of position. Easy tap-in, 89th minute. I lose 2-3.
Then set up a game against a guy using Man City. I was 3-0 up within 20 minutes then he quit after the third goal. He was getting no joy with my custom tactic. One of the goals was mad as fuck, a chip on the turn from inside the box, felt like slow-motion all the way.
I go for another Create Ranked Match. Again I'm Spurs and the opponent sets up Barcelona. Fuck it, I thought. This guy's going down.
However... He played really poorly. Struggling to pass around his own half, the ball was constantly going out for a throw-in or corner to me, and I can't believe I only scored two. However, the fact was he got one of those massive deflections in midfield leading to a breakaway goal. He also benefited from a convenient uber lag around the edge of my box and then equalized with his second shot of the match. Then as I was passing on the halfway line, Woodgate decides to de-attach himself from the ball and float away up field. Eto arrives, Eto fucks off towards goal. Eto curls ball into top right hand corner. 2-3 loss. Again.
I turned the thing off.

If you use dpad/assisted that's fine, it's your decision and you should be able to play like that. That is not the problem, the problem is that people who prefer semi/manual are forced to play against you and have no ability to choose games where people are using the same settings as them.

It is really annoying - I played a guy who went Man United. I was Arsenal and it was so blatant he was on all assisted.
I passed him off the park - but I am still hit and miss with my semi shooting so I missed every chance I had - hit the post a couple of times.
His tactic was to get it to Ronaldo and just charge at my defenders and hopefully he comes out with the ball after it. He got 3 goals this way - just steaming at my defence and then luckily the ball bouncing to him after the challenge. So he is one on one and with assisted shooting you just need to go a bit diagonal run at the last minute. This fucks up the keeper coming out as the keepers coming out are shit and he finishes easily.
I lost 3-0 even though I had superior possession and shots on goal.
Now I know I need to improve my shooting - but it takes a certain amount of skill to finish with semi.
It just gets a bit disheartening when you come up against people like this.
Although - I am finding at the moment for every one of these people, I get a couple of great games. So it is evening itself out at the moment.

My online experiences so far have been mixed. 10 v 10 against randoms is a joke (10 CF's, no-one can play a position, no-one passes, kids shrieking in your ear, etc...). 10 v 10 against friends is better but even then some people can only pass forward rather than knocking the ball about and keeping possesion. Playing as a LB or RB can mean being neglected the whole game. 1v1 is where it's at for me.

To anyone else who uses assisted or manual/semi - please post any other links with tips on how to become successful using them. I've tried to use semi with shooting but I can never hit the target unless I'm at the penalty spot. Anyway, thanks in advance.

Shooting on semi is extremely realistic, the balance between shots that hit the target and shots that go miles/just wide is spot on, it's challenging as well which is what it should be. I've scored a few scorchers from distance as well so it's not impossible. Also, you rarely, if ever, see the same goal twice.
I'm adding a few random people from the forum in the hope of a decent match online so if you see a friend request from "irt3hown" thats me.

i was thinking i have many sensible ideas that EA can add to the fifa franchise, do you know any way in which i can get in contact with people within the gaming industry, that may have connections with EA and the fifa franchise..
i am really passionate about this...and i have many ideas about how they can expand the fifa franchise and even any other football franchise for that matter and make it even more real life
thanks guys, reply back as soon as you can

I have all semi with manual lob passes, however I use assisted through balls as it takes too long to power up. However if you are using manual through balls I will too.

With assisted you can just aim off the pitch, towards the sideline with the analog stick yet you get a shot placed right into the top corner a lot of the time. That is just stupid.

Good for you, why should us who want realism be forced to play against people who like to play arcade mode? That's the problem here.
On a lighter note, just had a great game against Bobby, I somehow managed to win 1-0. I scored a good goal on the break then I was just hanging on, he hit the bar and my keeper made a double wonder save lol pretty nervous at the end.

i dont think this is an arcade x realism discussion, also im not going into the discussion why Ea dont put opitions so u can choos to play only agasint people who uses semi or manual settings..
i like to use asssisted also because i want my players atributes to influence as much as possible my shoots....the way i see on manual its 90% up to the user skill rather than the players atributes, and thats something that i dont like...so i rather hav it assited so i can cleary see diferences between players atributes, like good finnishes usually hit the far corners a lot easyer compared to weak players evan when u aim and set the power exactly the same with both..and thats what i want to see in my game...i dont call that arcade, i call simulation.
Now the online discussion you guys are having imo is another subject...which i could careless, since im not a big online player..i restrand my online game only with people i know...so i dont have any kind of problems of this sort.

.the way i see on manual its 90% up to the user skill rather than the players atributes, and thats something that i dont like.
That's wrong though, because with manual it's harder, therefore having good players makes a big difference because it increases your chances of scoring massively. With assisted, if you are in a certain position, it doesn't matter what player you have and what attributes they have if you open your body up and place it in the corner it's going in, and going in the exact same way every time.
You can make excuses all day but the truth is you aren't getting the most out of the game by using assisted.
Still, I don't hold it against people, that is their decision. What is wrong is that there is effectively no choice in the matter.

I'm sending my xbox back or selling it, what a waste.
You should try playing other games as well.
There's dozens of amazing games on the 360 that I'm sure you'll enjoy. Now you might say "I'm a football fan and only like football games", give other games a try and you'll see that having a 360 just for Fifa isn't the best decision.

I'm learning semi too - and I think that's the key. It's a learning process and it's not immediately obvious how to do it, so the temptation is to give up and go back to assisted, because it's already known and comfortable. But I'm determined to make a go of using semi, and in time full manual.
For what it's worth, my early impressions of the semi-manual shooting mechanic could be boiled down to the simple formula:
semi-manual aim is effective in direct proportion to the length of time you press in the direction you wish to shoot
which I think most people already know, but re-educating your gaming muscles to obey after a lifetime of assisted shooting is another matter.
It IS possible to get shots on target with semi-manual, but you have to 'feather' the direction whilst shooting, i.e. release the direction button a lot quicker, otherwise the ball flies wide. A brief tap to dink it past the keeper; a slightly longer press (and release) to find the corner. That kind of thing. Of course there are a myriad other factors in play as well - all the usual ones of angle, speed, momentum, footedness, defensive pressure, etc.

Yeah, well there's nothing we can do about it though is there?

What happened to the keeper rush function - so frustrating!!!!. I sit there squeezing the triangle button in ample time and the keeper just stays there like a lemon fixed on his line. He never comes out even if he's one on one. So many goals conceded because of this offline and online.
I'm on the verge of declaring FIFA 09 online redundant for me. Every game is so unresponsive. Even 10v10 is becoming an issue with the lag, numerous bugs and constant cut-offs from the EA servers. There are also numerous bugs online that I encounter in almost every game e.g. changing kits randomly at the ready screen even though I select a particular kit, not responding to any subs I make - even when the ball goes out of play, the STUPID advantage rule in general and not to mention the bug where my formations are changed at random and players put in random positions e.g. my midfielder being in goal when it's a penalty kick and my striker being moved to a LB position, I mean wtf.
Why is this happening to my most anticipated game... :CURSE:

m8 i tried... semi shooting on the d-pad is impossible..the angles the d-pad offer u are just too few...so there will be ocasions like running straing foward to the goal, that the d-pad wont offer u directions to aim at the far side of the goal...
so i suggest if u wanna use semi shooting , u must use the analog stick.

Good post. Although, regarding the auto-aim for a FPS, I do believe GTA IV incorporated this, and it was deemed a blessing by the countless reviewers and gameplayers, and the majority of them actually paying particular mention to it and how it was far better being able to automatically target enemies/public than mess about with it manually. So it does work to help and aid gameplay, sometimes ;)
I'm still on assisted at the moment on Fifa, too. I will move on to Semi, but as I'm a PES addict, I'm still getting used to everything "Fifa". Loving it at the moment, though.

It isn't auto aim in GTA though is it? I believe it's assisted aim (which thankfully can be turned off) same as many other games.
Assisted shooting to my mind is the same as playing an FPS with an aimbot running in the background, and gloating about an assisted screamer is that same as using an aimbot and gloating that you got 5 headshots in a row.........

i use semi on most things but i disagree with comparing assited shooting to auto aim. Auto aim you lock on to a target and always hit..in FIFA assissted doesnt mean u hit the target every time or it goes in every time there are too many other factors that can effect the shot...? I play on assissted with my PES mates on fast for a good old fasion arcade game of football..and i enjoy it just as much :O) ..
IMO EA will never take this feature away as they will lose the less hardcore gamers as manual and sometimes semi if your not used to it are frustrating as hell and not everybody has got hours and hours to dedicate to mastering it. At least by having this option in place FIFA is not only a superb football simulator but also a superb pick up a play straight out ot the box for novices or newbies to the franchise ( like me :O) )

I am not sure I agree that this is how the gameplay mechanics are programmed.
I don't think it matters whether or not you release the analog stick during semi manual aiming.
If you release the stick before the player shoots, I think 1 of 2 things will happen.
1. You release the stick before the game freezes your aim direction (there is a certain point before the player shoots where you can no longer aiming in another direction). This results in a shot down the middle save for inaccuracy from the player.
2. You release the stick sometime after the game freezes the aiming, and you releasing the stick does not change anything, since you releasing the aim stick has no effect on the aiming since it's already been frozen.
Having some kind of weird "hold in a direction for a certain amount of time to nudge the aiming more and more towards the post" doesn't make any sense. Especially since you can easily tell that quickly changing direction of the aiming (from say, left post ro right post), before the point in time where the aiming is frozen, allows for full control, as opposed to the "inertia" type thing you describe. If what you describe is how it works, then a quick 180 reversal of the aiming just befor teh shot is taken wouldn't be possible.
If you want to aim with the analog stick on semi, just aim it in the right direction, not really that complicated. If you for some reason play with D-pad, then there might be other dynamics involved (though I saw no mention of the d-pad in your post).

on the question of semi/assisted/manual controls i have no problem with anyone using whichever they enjoy - all i want is for EA to give the option to search for people on the same settings.
I suspect the reason EA have only put the option to select all manual or all assisted in is that they believe to allow anything else would leave too many possible combinations and no-one would ever find a game but as far as i can see from reading this and other forums a majority of people play using semi on everything except through and long balls which are on manual.
I would have thought it would be possible to have a couple of other options available to choose from to make games more even.
I like to think i am not bad at fifa - not great by any stretch of the imagination but at the moment i play semi for everything except through/long balls both of which are manual. More often than not i lose online. I wouldn't mind overly but most of the time i dominate the match, have many more shots on goal and lose to very obviously assisted opponents.
2 other things that annoy me at the moment are that occasionally it feels to me that in online matches the outcomem is decided before a ball is kicked - i know that sounds like sour grapes and probably i'm just being paranoid but eg last night i played a game - the other player was very reckless. He had 2 players sent off in the first half. I took the lead early in the second half - over the course of the match i hit the bar/post 9 times - 9 times in match ffs. In injury time despite me setting the attack/defence control to one notch down from neutral he intercepts a ball on the halfway line and my defence are totally absent - no-one behind the ball. He shot from fully 35 yards as i was chasing him down and the ball flew into the top corner like a laser guided rocket.
Into extra time and i hit the bar/post another 4 times - that's 13 times in the course of one match! On to penalties and of the 4 i took he saved 3! (i accept that the penalties were fair - i was just rubbish at them)
Overall it just felt like there was nothing i could have done to win the match. The stats at the end showed i had over 60% possession and about 18 shots on goal. My opponent had 3 shots in the whole match including extra time.
If this happened once in a blue moon then fair enough - as a Partick Thistle supporter i have seen real life games where we have lost despite playing the other team off the park!! But this has already happened a good few times since i got 09.
This brings me on to the other thing annoying me. I have set the game to send me emails of the results so i can see how i am doing in terms of points etc. When i looked at that match it told me the score and that it was ranked and that i am level 1 and my opponent was level 4. It also told me that i lost 42 points due to the loss.
In my next game it was a pretty scrappy affair - i edged it 1-0 after a fairly dull match.
I checked the email - i am still level 1 - my opponent this time was again level 4. Only difference being that for winning this match i was awarded a measly 23 points. I have seen this a lot in the points system - generally i get significantly fewer points for winning than i lose for losing. Why is this - at the rate i'm going i think i need to win my next 20 matches just to get back to the 500 points you start with - lol
Sorry for the rant.
Cheers
proxi

Had some of my most fun online matches yesterday. Two against FreMM which were both decided by penalties after exciting footie for 120 minutes. He defends like beavers!
Had some randoms to play aswell and it was much fun. Beat Man Utd, Lyon & Villa before some chap with a strange name (icecreamandahug2) decided to wipe the floor with me as Villa, 4-0! Every Villa player was stronger, faster, taller etc. I know it probably resembles real-life haha. I think quite a few folk go for them as it's long balls up to Carew all the time, knocking down to a pacey support winger. Four curling finesse goals. I was crushed :DUMMY:

I don't think it matters whether or not you release the analog stick during semi manual aiming.
If you want to aim with the analog stick on semi, just aim it in the right direction, not really that complicated.
I disagree. When I press and hold the direction with semi-manual shooting, my shots skew wildly wide. When I 'feather' and release the direction whilst shooting, my shots are on target. (I use the analogue stick btw.)
If 'just aiming it in the right direction' were as unproblematic as you suggest, there'd be no real difference between semi-manual and full assisted aiming - and there's a world of difference.
Of course there are plenty of other factors in play, but I find the major one is the duration of directional pressing whilst shooting.

In essence both mate. 10v10 is great if you have a bunch of mates to play with, I advise you sign up to an online group. In the majority of games I don't have any lag problems at all. However when it does lag, it lags bad. Don't get me wrong I can live with a little bit of lag as I understand it's difficult in any online game to completely iron it out. The thing that really gripes me is those bugs that I outline above that spoil the game, especially when you want to make subs towards the latter stage of the match and some of your players are knackered. 10v10 is a lot of fun though, that alone is worth getting FIFA for.
Now 1v1 is a completely different kettle of fish, it is REALLY unresponsive, think FIFA 08+few seconds more to respond. Now that is unforgivable as it is worse than last years installment online.
Offline is where FIFA is great for me. Everything is fine really and I've had loads of fun on the manager mode. In general though FIFA offline is still riddled with bugs, which I hope get ironed out in a future patch. I can handle a few dodgy advantage decisions, but that goalkeeper rush function really kicks me in the balls.

and when playing online what are the two numbers that appear for instance - 4237 + 31 is that your online score and the amount of points you just won? if so how does it work as some timesyiou might beat a team even if you are a lower ranked as in a 3 star team beatuing a 4 star team and you get maybe one or two points more???
i am new to fifa and addicted, i have alwyas been a pes man but played the new demo and was disgusted. i thought id try fifa and havnt looked back. i cant believe it online got 8/9 in magazines i would give it about 95% its one of the most addictive games ive ever played!!

m8 i tried... semi shooting on the d-pad is impossible..the angles the d-pad offer u are just too few...so there will be ocasions like running straing foward to the goal, that the d-pad wont offer u directions to aim at the far side of the goal...
so i suggest if u wanna use semi shooting , u must use the analog stick.
I agree. Semi shooting is where it's at for me using the Analog stick. The margin for error is perfect and where you point is exactly where the ball goes if done right. I usually go with All Manual with Semi-Shooting. Works great for me.

im trieng to adapt to it too...

if thats the case and u can still differ players shooting attributes ill really try to adapt to the shitty PS controles analog...
My issue with assisted is that there are way too many shots on target, and the 1 on 1 situations are almost automatcly goals.. also, headers fell 100% scripted...its ugly.

Semi is perfect realism, it takes the game from a 7/10 to a 10/10 in my opinion, it really does transform the game into something completely different.
The argument reminds me a bit of web standards, you can't suddenly force everyone to use the newer browsers because there would be uproar. What you have to do is by default provide the newer more advanced features and give people the option to fall back to what they are used to, if desired. In FIFA terms that would mean having semi/manual enabled by default, therefore encouraging people to take on the challenge and realism it offers, but at the same time having assisted in there for the casual gamer, the person that only cares about winning at all costs, or people using dpad etc.
This argument regarding shooting on semi is really interesting. Personally I'm torn between the two, I can see what Trance is saying in that there is a cut off point, but it I suspect it is programatically possible to take the length of direction press into account -before- the cut off point and still allow a last second change.
It's difficult to know for sure without a proper training mode, but if feels to me like it takes both direction and length of direction into account, rather than one or the other. The other problem is this isn't documented in the manual or anywhere for that matter, which is further evidence of EA's refusal to make this style of playing more mainstream.
Sometimes I will hold the direction for too long/too far and it will drag miles wide, but then I have experimented by doing quick direction presses and still managed to miss the target when I would expect a shot closer to the keeper, so clearly there are multiple factors involved and I'm not any closer to figuring out exactly how it works.

Is there no adaptor to enable the use of 360 controllers on the PS3?
Personally I hated using analogue sticks for Fifa07 on 360 but it didn't take long to adapt, is it a case of old learned bad PES habits or are the PS3's analogue sticks really that bad? I've never held a PS3 controller in my life so wouldn't know ;)

if there is an adapter please tell me, cause it will be a must buy for me....
its really bad to control the PS analog when u are on stress situations...the analog doesnt "stick" to your finger such as the 360 analag, not to mention the PS analog is in the secondary postition, the d-pad is at the main position, in the 360 its the oposite.

The PS3 accepts a lot of other 3rd party controllers but unfortunately doesn't recognise the 360 controller, you need a driver and have to access it through Fedora. I have a Logitech Rumblepad 2 working perfectly on my PS3 (without the rumble function). There's a clone for the 360 controller called a "Chillstream" that works great though. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Logitech-ChillStream-PC-Gamepad_W0QQitemZ260297989722QQcmdZViewItem?hash=i tem260297989722&_trkparms=72%3A1345%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C 240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

I really need to start a MM game off. I've gotten a bit bored of BAPS after my first season and don't have any desire to rush to FIFA and fire it up again.
In MM, if I start as Las Palmas, can I move jobs to Freiburg for example?

It is a big difference. I play with a second Division Team and my Strikers are really, really poor. They miss a lot of shoots even in the Box and at 1on1 Situations.
If i play with Bayern it is completely different. I dont need a lot of chances to score with Toni/Klose or Podolski. In the Box there are deadly and at 1on1 Situation i can score a lot easier, although i am doing the same thing like i do with my second Division Strikers.
Player Attributs count on Semi mate, they count a lot without a doubt. Play with weak Players and you will see and feel the difference for sure.

Had a couple of catastrophic through-ball bugs during play today. There you are, playing the game 'the new FIFA way', passing it around, probing for openings, trying to exploit gaps. And you finally create a chance and play the final killer ball through to your striker - who prances about next to the ball until the defender catches up with him...
How did that thing ever get past Quality Testing? Could it be an unforeseen side-effect of a late tweak? That's got to be the only explanation. Otherwise, we'd have to assume that a big games company released a football game without a proper testing and bug-fixing process. We all know that could never happen...

I still think FIFA09 is one of the best football games I've ever played - maybe even the best, I won't know for a few months yet. The 360 version doesn't seem to have the through-ball bug to the same extent as the PS3. I can't believe they shipped it with this through-ball thing in it at all, though. Shocking.

I deliberately chose not to answer them, but as long as you don't hold it against me if you hate it, I'd answer your last two questions with Yes and It's still well worth getting.
But the through-ball bug, even if it's patched out of the game, isn't something we should be very forgiving of IMO. I'm a console gamer for a reason. Allowing for patches just encourages sloppy practices from developers.

13 October 08, 17:45
I think Keith is exactly right in everything he says, I've scored some goals that just weren't possible in FIFA 08, and when you score ones like the one I've just posted in the FIFA 09 video thread, you jump out of your seat. It's a fantastic game - but there are a lot of bugs and you can't just dismiss that, because they're there, and they will ruin the occasional match.
The thing bugging me the most at the minute is when you press "pressure" to try and win the ball, without realising the game has already decided you're going to win the ball, and so you end up "passing" it out of play instead. Really, really annoying me now. But when you can predict it's going to happen you just lay off the button. You shouldn't have to, because this means you'll miss out on possession sometimes, but it's the only solution.
Things like that grate, and in a few months they will be really, really grating. That's how gaming is, every game is "the best game ever" for a week, then you get used to it and you notice the patterns of bad things happening (before I'd say "they played well to win that ball" but then you realise it's a script in certain situations, for example). But it's still the most fun I remember having with a football game so far.

guys check this seabass interview out:
i quote this part:
If EA said 'we're going to dump FIFA and you can have our engine - would you take it? Or would you say 'no I'll continue to do my own stuff'.
Seabass: Well I would think about it really seriously because I still believe that EA's engine and animation is really superb, very good. The modelling of the characters is perhaps not really to my taste actually, so I might not take that part, but seriously I think their engine and their motion style is really great.

he kind of admits the engine is a step foward of his old old engine.

I consider not to buy a new console and stay with pro evo and pc? Would it be wise? Is fifa worth a chance anyway?Whats your advice after testing fifa for 2 week now?
I'll try to answer your question point by point, not necessarily in the same order as they were posed.
- Is fifa worth a chance anyway?
FIFA is worth a chance, yes. The extent to which the bugs will hamper your enjoyment doesn't mean that the game is not worth a chance, by any mean. Also, the bugs - at least the more serious ones - should be fixed by a patch, I cannot imagine it not happening. However, do not mistake bugs by design decisions or problems. The through ball thing is a bug that should be fixed. You should not, however, get your hopes up about them fixing the accuracy problems when playing with smaller teams, the online issues with selecting one control method or the other, the 10vs10 BAP mode not being like playing football on a playground unless you're playing with friends, no edit mode, etc. There's a distinction between what is undoubtedly a bug, and what is a limitation/design choice/area that needs improvement of the product.
- Would it be wise?
Wise is a word that definitely does not correlate with what we are talking here. Buying a console for the sole purpose of playing one game - even if you end up buying one or another, just to fill some free time - is never a wise decision. You are going to spend loads of money, and when the novelty wears out, you'll have a semi-empty feeling, mixed with resignation. You have just spent a bucketload of money for an experience that, even though it is good, it will not blow your socks off, and will not correspond to all the expectations that you have created with all the hype. You will spend some time forcing yourself to actually play the damn thing to justify the purchase. It is a very complicated decision to make, but it is definitely not a wise one. If, however, you have been tempted to buy the console for a while now, and FIFA is the tipping point, that's another thing. But do not buy it just for FIFA - nor should you fall for the trap of buying into others' arguments such as "oh, you should, because there are a lot more games worth playing in that console".
The fact is that each one has his own life and his own free time. In my case, I have a PS3. There are lots of games that I should have played - MGS4, GTA4, Drake's Fortune - that I simply do not have the time to. That's why I cannot advise anyone to buy a console because it has great games. It is not the great games that make your experience with the console worthwhile; it's the games and the time that you have to play them.
I bought the console for PES2008. I resented it after a while, because I would play more of the PS2 version than the PS3 one. Then I bought FIFA08. I forced myself into liking it, and nothing.
Right now I'm playing FIFA09. I just don't enjoy it that much. I can see why many people like it, but after falling into the hype of buying it because everyone was enjoying it, I have to force myself into going back and playing it. Playing with a smaller team - as I always do, because I do not enjoy playing with big teams, and my national championship doesn't have any either way - is a pain. BAP:Seasons, which I was terribly hyped for, is now a grind. I'll keep playing it, but I fell out of love for it pretty quickly, much to my sadness.
- Whats your advice after testing fifa for 2 week now?
I will not comment on it, since I don't play the online mode, and I don't feel compelled to play the MM mode, for lack of time, and being focusing on the BAP mode (both with locked and unlocked player). However, I don't think that 2 weeks of game - if any - should influence the advice that anyone can give you about the game. Every person's experience is a personal affair. No experience will be equal between two different persons.
- I consider not to buy a new console and stay with pro evo and pc?
I would recommend that, not because of recommending Pro Evo, but because not recommending buying a console just for FIFA.
Mind you, however, and I'm not trying to begin a flame-fest, that if you have played the PES2009 demo and are expecting the console FIFA09 version to completely blow you away for being miles ahead of PES... It won't, I'm sorry. It doesn't matter if FIFA is better or worth than PES, the difference between the games is not enough to justify the purchase of a console for it vs playing the other in the PC. You are just being pushed by the hype for a product that only exists in your dreams. You are just making an expensive purchase to trade one game with one set of problems for another game - which may or may not suit your taste better - with a different set of problems.
If I were you, I would go to a store and play FIFA there for a couple of times, on different days, so you get an idea of what to expect.
Then, if you still feel compelled to make the purchase, by all means, go for it. But do not label it as a "wise" decision :)
I hope I have helped.
Best regards,
Paulo Tavares

"If 'just aiming it in the right direction' were as unproblematic as you suggest, there'd be no real difference between semi-manual and full assisted aiming - and there's a world of difference."
I think you have the wrong impression as to how the system is supposed to work.
The manual aiming using Analog sticks aren't meant to be one more obstacle for the player to deal with. You are not supposed to be struggling with how and when to time the stick movements and such.
The analog sticks allows you to, much more precisely than the d-pad, signal to the game what your intent is. So instead of PES where you have a choice of 3 directions for the shot (middle of the goal, or either post), you can now aim anywhere you want. Meaning that if you have an opponent standing next to the post, perhaps right after a corner, in PES all you could do is tell the player to aim at the corner, and risk having the player aiming the shot right at the player standing by the post.
Since analog control gives you so much more precision, you can now chooce to try and aim the shot between the goalie and the defender by the post so as to avoid that the ball hits the defender.
The system itself should NOT be unpredictable. It should be very consinstent, because like I mentioned, it is there to allow you to precisely signal your INTENDED aim. The analog stick represents your aim like you would aim in real life. And in real life, you can aim to hit the top corner with every shot.
The challenge should not lie in the interface, (in other words, once you have learned to use the analog stick and how to move it to aim exactly where you want, the analog stick and aiming with it becomes completely transparent, and simply an extension of your brain into the game).
The challenge comes in the form of player stats. In real life, I can aim to hit the top corner every time (just like you should be able, when you've mastered it, to aim properly with the analog sticks all the time). But it is my physical skills and training and experience that dictates how well I can execute what I intend. meaning that things like Balance, being pressured by defenders, how much training you've had in the past, etc dictates how well the execution of, say, a shot, matches your intentions.
The aim of having Manual aim, as opposed to assisted, is not to add a challenge to the game. This is simply a byproduct if you are new to the game or crap with using analog sticks. The aim of having analog/manual control is to REMOVE the uncontrollable/unpredictable nature of using the d-pad with it's very limited directionality.
The system you refer to, with having to time the direction movements of the analog stick, seems to be similar to Top Spin 3. Admittedly I think that is a pretty good game, but the way they've added artificial limitations like the stick movement timings are really bizarre. It feels completely disjointed, and it doesn't try to mimic reality in any way, since releasing the analog stick several seconds before the player strikes the ball is hardly real-time, but more of an arcade gameplay element simply there to add difficulty. Not to mention that Top Spin has received a disproportionate amount of praise for its deep control scheme, when in fact my, and others, experience has been that the control scheme is lacking in depth and "natural" tendencies.
For example, when you mistime a serve so it hits net, it almost always hits the exact same spot, just under the edge of the net. You never see the player completely botch the serve. In other words, the game simply registers your input, decides that you have missed, and puts the ball in the net.
A properly designed system that focuses on realism and reality would not have such a control scheme. The game should be indifferent to your actions in this sense, and shouldn't compute "miss" or "hit". It should simply register the pad and button movements and possible timing events, and deliver a results that matches these inputs aswell as a randomized amount of error margin based on player stats.

I too am sick to death of playing against people online who have passing and shooting set to assisted. I'm not saying they shouldn't, that's their call, i'm just saying I shouldn't have to play them. the only real options we have at the moment are
1. play all manual controls (don't know anyone who does that)or
2. play with no restrictions.
What's wrong with this as options when setting up an online game:
Pass Assistance> Assisted/Semi/Manual or Any
Through Pass Assistance> Assisted/Semi/Manual or Any
Shot Assistance> Assisted/Semi/Manual or Any
Cross Assistance> Assisted/Semi/Manual or Any
Lob Pass Assistance> Assisted/Semi/Manual or Any
I would imagine that most people who play on semi would set a game up with shot assistance & pass assistance set to semi and the rest set to any.
It's not a matter of "forcing" someone to play with certain settings, it's just people with the same preferences want to be able to play against each other.

great post Trance_Allstar...
i would like to hear your thoughts on how the players attributes influence the semi-assisted shooting...
for ex: if i aim and power it exact the same with Nistelrooy and some 3rd div player, what will be the diferences in the result of the shoot, i knwo the power will be diferent, but will the direction also be diferent?
if u fell like writing about it please do :)
thanx! ;)

m8 i tried... semi shooting on the d-pad is impossible..the angles the d-pad offer u are just too few...so there will be ocasions like running straing foward to the goal, that the d-pad wont offer u directions to aim at the far side of the goal...
so i suggest if u wanna use semi shooting , u must use the analog stick.
So glad I took your advice, had a really good few games tonight, you can see the result in the video thread!! :WORSHIP:

you can't set semi assisted to find an online match, only manual or assisted.

Great games vglntv95, some of the football played was very realistic. It's great to play someone who plays the game the way it's meant to be played :).
That would have been an awesome goal with Tabb when we played Coventry v Doncaster, hit the bar :((.

Yeh cracking games mate. Hull are pretty decent, Myhill I think it was made some ridiculous saves to keep me one up. There were a few goal mouth scrambles at my end in the Championship match. Playing the game like that is just pure enjoyment, the only gripe I can find with the game is the manual through balls which are quite useless I find. Sometimes I will fully power up and it will be a pathetic little pass that gets intercepted, other times I will seemingly tap it and it will go out for a goal kick. It also takes too long to power up but I suppose it's quite realistic in that you need thinking time to deliver a good through ball.
Back onto the shooting debate, I actually agree with Trance now. I think the timing factor is merely down to perception and in actual fact it's simply direction, the more you aim to the side the more wide it will go. I've been practising a lot in arena and I've come up with a decent system for improving shot accuracy.
Hold the analog dead center (this helps if you are used to holding the direction you want to shoot in) then at the last second tweak the direction slightly to the side depending on where you want to aim. I found I can get 90% of my shots on target if I get the power right as well, and also, if you do the direction too late, the worst that will happen is you will hit it down the middle and still have a good chance of scoring or getting a rebound.
