can someone with the 360 version please confirm that when raining, no rain appears in normal game camera, only in cutscenes, replays, free kicks and instant replays?
Its a bug thats really ruining it for me - want to know if its just my copy!!
I haven't been able to make it rain yet! Irrespective of whether it's cut scenes or main play.

I don't understand why you go on about untucked shirts and goal kicks when, in my mind FIFA's shooting seems to have a pretty large flaw to it.
You seem to be the only one mentioning this Flaw?
Coopz gave you a few pointers a couple of posts up. Try that and then let us know how you feel?

Is that because nobody sets off a fire cracker everytime the ball is kicked?

He's in the Russian squad. Rated at 84 and playing CF.
Ahh cool. But would I still be able to try and purchase him in Manager Mode?

Just played a quick game 10v10.
Absoloute joke. Complete lag-fest, offside-fest with the forwards (and I use that term mildly as nearly every midfielder was up there as well), long-balls, shooting from the halfway line, players not passing and trying to dribble through everyone ... just a horrible experience.
I had quite the opposite. Albeit it wasn't the full 10 v 10 but it was smooth and people tried their best to keep their positions.

Played a few games of 10 v 10, no lag at all, but definitely a joke. Midfielders are up front, defenders are up front, it's stupid. And i don't think i've played a game with another English person so far apart from a couple of my mates.

Setting it to overcast and it rains during cut-scenes but not during the game for me.

Just played the PES Demo.
If any of them has the nerve to say the ball is like a balloon in fifa they should try the goal kicks in there beloved PES.
I took a goal kick went and made a brew watched half an hour of Ray Mears and the ball had still not come down.
To be honest, this is what I was just talking about in my last post.
You seem to enjoy slagging off PES more than playing FIFA!
Infact do you actually play either or do you just dance around the boards like a resident court jester?
I cannot recall a time were you posted about tactics/moves/formations etc
in game discussion seems to be above your station.
I loved the days when it was all about playing and getting the most out of the game. You could come on here and learn about differant shooting/dribbling/skill/passing techniques, how and when to do differant things.
Clownss like you get in the way of all that, for every post that answers a question on how to get the most out ofshooting (see post a few above) there are 10 waste-of-time posts like 99% of yours.

what do you have your shooting on ?
Assisted,Semi,Manual
and try using finesse (with alot of open space) and from a 45 degree angle also makes it easier to curl it top corner :)
Well im on semi controls and i scored two awesome long rangers last night
The key to shooting is positioning, you need to be at a angle so he can put his foot straight through it. Even shooting sideways on using finesse and his stronger foot works well because then you get whip on the ball
Cheers for the advice guys, I'll give it a shot.

I'm actually getting so sick of the shooting now, it's driving me insane. Can someone explain to me to score from outside the box? I've tried it with a mile of space around me, nice hit and it just goes sailing over the bar.
Ruining the game for me completely at the moment, since the main objective of a football game funnily enough is to score.
I've scored about 20 tap-ins but it's really not as exciting as a 30 yarder.
Actually I was having the same problems as you, then I followed the advice of somebody from these forums, cant remember who. First of all let go of the sprint button before shooting, press the LT (xbox 360, focus I think?) and yes positioning is very important. I am getting much better shots on goal with this, even low shots.

I have played both FIFA demos on 360 and PS3 and really cannot make up my mind as to which version to buy. I can definitely play much better with the PS3 controller, using the dpad, but I hate the PS3s' triggers. Also the demo on 360 looks much better. Does the final version on PS3 look much better than the demo?

which is why you play FIFA Clubs :)
I will never play a 10v10 game as it would be turd
fifa clubs I have a team of 3 atm and its perfect :)
How is the club mode with real world teams though?
For instance, can everyone on Milan do Ronaldinho moves, or can nobody? Because if I remember correctly, everyone is the same rating which to me is kind of dumb when you have real world teams. Takes away the identity of the team and if that's the case they might as well let you make your own player.
What's the Club mode like though?

And I'm not sure if it been said, but I can confirm that in BAP seasons you can get injured. I just got injured for three days or if it was three matches. Probably only minor injuries, but it's nice to see it's in.

same old same old with ea again, once you get into the game the bugs start surfacing...and not some of them, a lot. :(
it's kinda sad cause this is a great game, but so many things left out / forgotten / unbalanced that it takes away quite some fun :(

I really dont think that happened, unless he was on the lowest setting
I have been trying to "break" the pes 09 demo like that for about 10 games and you are not gonna waltz past every player on the top setting (like you could in pes 08)
I'm not arsed about people slagging the game off (look at my join date, I have watched people slag it off since pes 2 onwards)
but to post such a blatent lie in this forum just to show your one of the sheep and then everyone says 'of course' 'well we all knew it would happen'etc will devalue your opinion on FIFA.
it needs to be kept objective.
I think both FIFA 09 and PES 09(demo) look fantastic this year, so both have a place in my collection.
the best game wont be decided for another 2-3 months when the dust settles when we see whos still playing what.
Just saw this. I hadn't played the demo as of the time my post was written. I was just not surprised if the game was piss easy. Do you blame me when my only NEXT GEN evidence was PES2008? Really?
Having got played the demo, it's not much better than i expected. Not piss easy due to the more pedantic pace of the passing. But it's not far enough removed from 2008. Infact It's a slower 2008.
It's been stripped down (primitive blur and massive Level of Detail filter) to get the frame-rate smooth (which does actually look very good) but that means we get worse player models (although the crowd and the pitch HAVE improved imo). One-touch passing is fast as ever, but playing the game, it's obvious the engine needs a re-haul.
And If we're playing the join-date game, i was online in 2000 crowing about how ISS n64 was better than PRo Evo on the PSx. I just hadn't found this place. Infact my other nick here (TheTone) was resigned ages ago.
I've bought these titles (ISS, Pro) every year without fail until Fifa07 came in attempting to add competition to the genre. Competition i didn't think as needed (Pro Evo 5 & 6 were the pinnacle as far as last gen football is concerned). Not until i saw Fifa09. It's not even the license anymore that separates them. It's the actual gameplay.
Fact is I find it more rewarding to craft and score a goal in Fif09 than in PES2009, and it's up to konami to come in fresh (just like EA did) and change my mind.
The complaints from PES fans of Fifa strike me as insincere in the face of PES2009. Ive heard it all from shooting, to the intricacies of player models and even Fifa's running animations. Truth is both could do better with the running animations. But the player models in Fifa are finally better than pro evo. They're slim and athletic rather than simian (as the were before). Prov Evo still has that drunken robocop running animation and wooden clothes from last gen.
I hope mods don't delete this as it addresses both games (both demos are out). Had i posted this on the other forum, i'd not have time to answer in the flood of tears heading my way. I just don't like my opinion one item being taken as base across all games (including fifa09).
There's mudslinging from both camps, but owning both consoles, both previous titles (fifa08 & PES2008) and both demo's, i'd like to believe my opinion counts for more than "bah he just bashed my precious demo so his opinion is worthless".
just my 2cents.
more like a quid actually.

Sweetkilla, you mean you can't change your mentality with the d-pad? Because it's definately working here.
I really hope a patch fixes the players making runs but stopping and starting again. It looks ridiculous and it completely ruins the flow of a passing move when the striker suddenly stops and the defender nicks the ball.

The most ridiculous and hilarious things are watching 6 attackers in the box to 1 defender and yet the player on the ball fails to pass to the 6 open men and blasts it wide, and when someone actually does score I love seeing all 10 players go off doing their own celebrations.

I don't understand why you go on about untucked shirts and goal kicks when, in my mind FIFA's shooting seems to have a pretty large flaw to it.
SOunds like you don't understand all the variables taken into account when shooting. I'm not going to name them all but timing and skill is just two of them.
As it seems FIFA is atempting to be accurate, if you're attempting to score a 35 yard screamer with, for sake of arguement, Mark Noble, you shouldn't expect even 7 of 10 to be on target.
A really simple snippet from me, but if you're balloning all your shots over the bar, hold the shoot button for less time :))

They were very good games Bitter :)). Really enjoying this game, it's both realistic and fun.
Just had a very good 10v10 (well, about 7v8) - Inter v AC, Me and some other guy were the centre backs, me as Materazzi. We both played properly with good positioning, kept a good defensive line (the full backs were AI controlled) and broke up the play and played it simply when we got the ball. I got man of the match and we won 2-0, me assisting the last goal with a nice long ball which Ibrahimovic took down and slotted in :).
Having an experience like that on 10v10 with random people just proves the quality of the mode, the clubs mode will probably be ten times better.
I am now willing to play centre-back as well - it was a different sort of challenge which I really enjoyed just then.

The game is pretty much identical to the demo. The cut scenes have been like this for years. It doesn't really bother me but I honestly wish they'd do away with cut scenes all together. It would be much more immersive without them imho.
Saw a nice touch earlier where Fabregas had the ball with Adebayor running into the box asking for it but I shot instead and it went wide and Adebayor turned and made a gesture as if to say "why didn't you pass it to me Cesc you tosser"

The game is pretty much identical to the demo. The cut scenes have been like this for years. It doesn't really bother me but I honestly wish they'd do away with cut scenes all together. It would be much more immersive without them imho.
That's a shame. I had FIFA 08 and traded it in because of this. It made me feel like I had motion sickness. I'll hire it for a week and see if I can get on with it. Cheers for the reply :)

It's not possible to lock the camera to your player in BAP right? I mean with Tele cam or some other camera. Really hard to play as a defender when you can't see your player on the screen most of the time. The pro camera is like 20 fps, can't stand it. Remember that I could lock the camera to my player in PES when playing fixed cursor... should be in FIFA too.

you also get a free football worth £9.99 as well as a £5 money of voucher to use to purchase any other game. and it doesnt have to be there and then, so you could for example keep it for pes. or use it on summit else. good deal i'd say. but on the other hand i also read tesco are sellin it for £29.

I think it's the adidas live season influence, you see spurs are hardly playing football atm and both jenas and modric might aswell not be on the pitch for all the good they are doing. FIFA09 is just reflecting this in-game ;)
But no, haven't noticed this, but then Ive only played 5 matches, one friendly against rome and 4 MM matches with Liverpool. I played spurs and Im sure I saw Jenas running about, didnt notice Modric though.

And Everton get dumped out of the UEFA by Liege......This is a briljant day combining that with FIFA09 in my ps3. Im sure I can top it off by playing PES09 demo in a minute and having a good laugh at it.
From what I could tell with my short time;
- there are more animations,
- freekicks seem to be less sensative making it a bit easier to get the ball on target ( I never mastered the freekicks in 08 and never got close with the demo either),
- it looks a bit more polished then the demo ( on the ps3),
- ref's are slightly less strict with the cpu being less reckless in the tackles = makes it about right as I thought it was a bit too much in the demo if that would have happend in 5min matches or more
- CPU is harder, playing pro and its really hard atm while in the demo I hardly conceded and won most of the matches
- 1st touch seems better generally, I dont need to constantly use the l2 button (modifyer) when controlling the ball. Just using d-pad/analog for movement is good enough.

I have a french game, so I don't know exactly how they translated the menu, but you have to go in Xbox live then in player info near the bottom. You should see your gamertag, rank, skill points etc. If you press LT or RT you can switch info and you'll be able to see your records.

was able to play the retail version of fifa 09 earlier today at a mates house...this game truley is great...it feels more fluid than the demo...it feels right every time you move the players..postioning of the A.I. is really good too
i played as arsenal and my mate was chelsea...i was able to play that beautiful arsenal football i see week in week out.
there were things my mate could do that i couldnt, not beacuse he was a better fifa player than i was, but because he was chelsea...as far as i could see each team plays different, feels defferent, position differently, have strenghts and weaknesses that you can exploit if you are good enough.
all in all 9/10 definatly
looks like for fifa 2010 EA can now work on the manager mode more..making it even more realistic...and also get some more player faces and tweak the ones that they have now..
one thing that will be great is if EA have like individual player running animations for some of the top players, like aaron lennon running the way he does in real life..messi..walcott etc....however each player feels completely different from the next...rooney different from adebayor and drogba....
i will be buying the game tomorrow and will be enjoying it till the next fifa..lets enjoy this brilliant football game...take it all in.

If true, that is certainly something, although I agree with Murkurial comments below. The lobby needed work to permit to booting of twats.
But I'm starting to feel more optimistic that 10v10 may have at least a basic level of improvement over FIFA08.

Best post I've seen so far.
I'd rather have easy Legendary, than a Legendary that cheats and plays above superhuman ala FIFA08.
PES5 is quite easy on 6 Stars aswell, if you are the proper team. China vs Brazil is alot more challenging.
So even if you play on Legendary, if you are a superior team, you should be more likely to win, since "Legendary" should reflect reality as close as possible, whereas all difficulties below it should be more and more limited AI. There's no point in making superhuman difficulties, since noone in their right mind will play against superhuman AI just because of the challenge. It isn't realistic to have China beating Brazil and having 80 percent possession, so I wouldn't touch that difficulty, rendering it completely useless. better they make the top difficulty realistic depending on the team you are playing, and give the ones below it a smoother scaling down.
Can't wait to play the full game.

as everton played man utd got beat 3-0 played wigan won 1-0 played fulham won 2-0 played liverpool got beat 2-0. last year that would have been four straight wins or four straight losses depending on the difficulty so its a massive improvement
Wow wow wow!!!! What a game....played it for 3 hours straight last night and it is so much better than the demo. It got better every game. It is so fluid and plays brilliantly. You can really feel the custom tactics and the way each team play feel's so much different. As someone mentioned, when I played with Arsenal there were so many passing options. Players always passing the ball and moving into space. The movement is brilliant. Shooting is spot on, some of the shots and volleys feel so sweet. You can really crack a ball if your player is balanced right and the outside of the foot shooting is class also.
The only gripe I have so far is the stupid Fifa signs next to the goals haha so that say's how good the game is. Also the atmosphere feel's different when you play in different countries, I played as Argentina and it actually felt like you were playing in South America. Hard to explain but you will notice it once you play the game as well.
as everton played man utd got beat 3-0 played wigan won 1-0 played fulham won 2-0 played liverpool got beat 2-0. last year that would have been four straight wins or four straight losses depending on the difficulty so its a massive improvement
Agreed.
Started BAP: Seasons 3rd Game beat Wigan 1-0; scrappy game, both teams reserves.
Got called up to first team, moved from LM to LCM beat Arsenal 0-3 Elano was on fire, absolutely sublime build up play; game was quicker overall and flowed much better. You could really tell you were involved in a game with much more talented players.
Oh and I forgot to mention how hard it is to play in the rain. The ball really bogs down and the players feel so much more sluggish...brilliant. It was really hard to get the hang of playing in the rain -I set it to overcast at Old Trafford and there was rain.
Be a Pro tonight has been awesome - particularly when my Lee Martin free kick went right into the top corner :DD.

MANAGER MODE BOLLOCKS
I've now completed a season on Manager Mode - David Villa was top goalscorer in the league with 28 goals and didn't make the team of the season.
I tell you who did make the team of the season: Hedwiges Maduro. "Who?", I hear you cry. Well, he's my midfield star of course. You know, the guy that played 45 minutes all season, obtained a score of 9 and also got player of the season!

Really cant wait to get home and play it some more. I am at work now - 10:15am here in Sydney. I feel the game really is something special, it has that feel to it I use to have with older PES games. You could feel it was something special when you first started playing it, you didnt quite have a grip of the controls totally yet - but you could just sense that the game was getting better and better as every game went by. I hope it's the same a few months down the track.

Reminds me of FIFA 08 when Frazier Campbell made the team of the season from Man U (whom I was using). He played two games all season... sure, they were very good games, hat trick in one and 2 goals in the other, but come on, two bloody LEAGUE CUP games!
Obviously they do not take games played into factor and just go by highest ratings, period.

I'm new to these forums and don't know what all the posting rules are here so if this is out of place or anything, just let me know. But I just got done playing the PES demo and just was wondering:
What is it about PES that people hold so dear? I just got done playing the demo a few times and can't figure out what it is about this game that people go so nuts over. I'm not trying to pick a fight or start a flamewar here, I just honestly don't get it.
The gameplay feels stiff, the ball has absolutely no physics to it that I saw, it certainly isn't anything special to look at. Doesn't seem to have nearly the intelligence that FIFA has (though that could have been the 'regular' difficulty setting I was playing on). FIFA seems miles ahead in every possible way. It must be a taste thing. I'm an avid EPL fan and think FIFA represents the real life game in far greater fashion that what the PES 2009 demo showed me.
Is there something in the days of old that made PES/WE great that people just can't seem to let go of? Because I gotta say, PES 2009 (in my eyes) certainly doesn't live up the reputation that so many people bestow upon the franchise.

Pretty good review, knowing what some of their users are like I'm sure no matter what there'll be those saying "PES > Fifa"......
Hmm this is weird:
Manager Mode, EA's attempt to compete with Konami's revered Master League, also returns in expanded form, even though it's not mentioned on the box or in the manual. It puts up another stern test, allowing you to play around with a transfer budget, field weakened teams in the cup and get turfed out by your board if you don't win enough games, which you control in standard fashion. Konami purists may feel it's a bit light next to their obsession
Wasn't it the IGN UK review that said those things as well with just slightly changed wording? Something very odd there:
Manager Mode is a little more fleshed out, and though it does falter under the weight of some cumbersome menus it offers an in-depth campaign where you'll be working your way through the boardrooms of various clubs. While it's still not as immersive as PES's Master League it's a weighty diversion nonetheless
Hmm maybe I'm just being paranoid? ;)

Just played the PES 2009 PC demo, and its exactly the same as 2008 just with a licensed Liverpool.
What a load of shambles, what have they done to PES, it is now a shadow of its former self. I'm a full Fifa convert now. Mind you i still play PES6 and PES6 is better than Fifa 08 for depth.

Yeah just read the eurogamer review, would have thought it was going to be a 9, considering 08 was an 8 score and how positive they were. Basicly they have scored it down because of a few niggles at the end and the subjective element of what kind of football you like to play = simulation or arcade.
As for MM, I think its just the new menu's and adding the finals stadiums. Havent read anything else.
Oh and sorry Placebo, I was a bit giddy after playing fifa for an hour.
@ Peter, I know, played the demo last night after playing fifa and it just felt so wrong. They seem to have gone backwards from pes360. And even more surprising to me was that player control felt more clunky and unresponsive then fifa's. To me, fifa's is now very close to perfect as they have adjusted the 1st touch from the demo, pes seemed to have the same 1st touch as the fifa demo.

I got a question for the lucky few (actually alot now :| )
how is the BE A PRO season? is it objective based(like make 10 successful passes) or do you just play and if you perform well then you get promoted or whatever? do you play every single game of the season? is it like the manager mode but you only control one player?
At the start of the season you get set three objectives like having a goal difference of +10, top three finish etc.
At the start of each match you get objectives. My BAP is a CAM so mine are nearly always a) Take two shots or b) Score a goal, win the game, win by two goals.

EA are bastards like that. Honestly, it might seem cynical but its the only explanation as to why they've 'forgot' to do simple things like let you change jobs in MM mode, or random weather and day/night cycles in tournaments.
If they don't fix these simple things in a small patch then I won't be happy, heck I'd be happy to do it for them, I know a bit of programming, how hard can it be?:-ll:LOL:

There are a few annoying bugs in play and the shooting and crossing seem off to me, the MM has had things taken out while some things have been tweaked and improved it's still not as user friendly and PES used to be, why can't we compare players FFS?...
I still have seen no weather or how I could set it before starting the MM and I have had no injuries either, anyhow this is turning into the review I said I'd wait to post so that's it for now...

For those complaining about some things not being fixed from last year.....it's worth remembering the wealth of things that have been fixed. They can't do everything in 12 months and imo, this game has moved on remarkably in that time. Yeah, things like the manager mode are a bit frustrating but for me it's all about the gameplay and this has moved on immeasurably. They've also added in a few ground breaking features such as 10 v 10 online. Hopefully, next year manager mode will be fixed. I can guarantee though that not absolutely everything everyone wants improved from FIFA09 will be implemented because that never really happens in a 12 month development cycle. In any game

The 5v5 update also included a couple of fixes/tweaks:
Ronaldihno bug where if you didn't have him as your arena player you had to download the squad update everytime you played online.
Fixed Toronto's name to be FC Toronto instead of Toronto FC (or vice versa can't remember which).
Lowered AI accuracy from free kicks at Professional and below.
There were more I am certain of it but EA never released a full list.

Some people have been having the same problem as me:
Fifa / Xbox Live crashes after the update. Its possible we've also found the problem. It seems that if your downloading the PES2009 demo whilst playing fifa, it completley breaks your xbox live.
The only solution is to either reformat the HDD / delete the cache.
I wonder if its EA or Konami's fault for this. It could also be that any download gets affected and not only the pes demo, its just that everyone who's reporting rpoblems is downloading PES.

I don't think FIFA copes well with downloads in the background. The demo crashed for me whenever the 'download completed' notification was due to come up. And FIFA09 has just crashed on loading under the same circumstances.

After my first night with FIFA 09, I'm really impressed for all the reasons already pointed out here. Few things I don't like though:
- Way too many penalties.
- What's the game speed setting for? I don't notice any difference between slow, normal and fast.
- Advantage rule is ridiculous. Ref waves play on, opponent loses the ball in a fair duel some ten seconds later and they still get a free kick for the previous foul.
- I can't upload any replays. It says that the website is currently not available. At first I thought it wasn't active until today, the official release date, but I just checked and it still doesn't work. And there are replays on the site. Is this a known problem?
Other than that, great game.

It's not a bug, it's a completely removed feature so I can't believe they don't know about it, and don't see it being "fixed" via an update, sadly :(
you can't do it in the lobby, but you can in the game by pressing pause and player list - select his name and remove
You may be able to in the lobby because you can choose "player list" like you can in game
Have been playing the game for three consecutive days now...
I like it very much.
The penalties that are mentioned on this page, that's strange...i've been playing at least 30 matches and i haven't seen a single one...
There is only one thing that i don't like and fortunately it just happened two or three times...there's a sort of "stutter" when i score goal now and then...i shoot on goal and it turns out i have scored, but i haven't seen the actual goal. I can see it perfectly well in the replays...and like i said i've only had it two or three times...did anyone notice anything similar (i have the PS3 version).
Oh and i still think that the differences between individual players and teams are marginal...that's what i always liked in the other game.

Finally the postie came good so I've played 4 matches thus far.
The first was a regular exhibition me v cpu match. Manual player switching is terrible, virtually never goes to the man you want. Using the RAS to point to which man as often as not switches to a guy in the opposite direction. Probably won't play that mode ever again.
I then tried 3 Be-a-pro matches. Absolutely brilliant! A joy to play. The reponsiveness is excellent. The close control, the first time passes/shots, it's all feels so tight and so right. Even using the tricks have a tightness to them so you're not waiting for some clumsy anuimation to unfold, by which time you've lost the ball.
You can jump early for balls, stretch late to make a last ditch challenge. You seem to control your guy all the time. I keep forgetting at goal kicks that the cpu is no longer forcing my guy run to his "position"...I'm actually still controlling him.
The AI plays with such intelligence. Your team-mates tackle and jostle like you would want them to. They vary the play. They play some amazing one-touch stuff, show great imagination. They create chances and score goals all by themselves without you having to be at the heart of everything. And when you do get involved, the don't feed you useless passes which the cpu invariably intercept, or delay unitl the moment has passed. They even "see" when you're in space or making a good run and pass to you without you even having to ask for it. Even from 60 yards.
The cpu team actually makes mistakes, quite often. They even sometimes just hoof clearances into the stands, rather than every defensive clearance being an impossible 180 degrees turn/60 yard pixel perfect pass all in one move.
The refs are actually sometimes fair. The cpu team will tackle you and the ref will actually award you a free-kick (shock horror!). And your defenders can make challeneges/tackles without it automatically being a free-kick to the cpu team. What are EA playing at here? Surely the whole point of computer refs is to be 100% biased in favour of the cpu team.
Played one be-a-pro match, Arsenal (me) against Grimsby. No faulty underdog logic at play here. We won 8-0. Grimbsy hardly touched the ball first half. 2nd half, they managed to pump a few long balls forward and create a couple of scrappy half-chances from set-pieces, but the Arsenal defence was generally far too strong and jostled them off the ball. The Grimbsy defence weakened towards the end and we easily opened them up to pick off a few late goal and rub in the misery. And Grimsby weren't given that traditional last 5 minutes cpu boost with a scripted goal. The game just played out fair until the final whistle. Bizarre!
One nice moment during my first Be-a-pro match, Wycombe (me) v Barnet. We'd had a corner which end up in their keepers hands. All the players went back up field ready for the kick from the keeper, but one of our strikers remained up to hustle the Barnet keeper. As the keeper went to take the drop-kick from his hands, he stumbled under pressure from the striker, swung his leg but the ball hit his knee and rolled out beyond the edge of the 18 yard box. The striker made as dash for it, as did a Barnet defender dashing back to help. The striker just got there first and tried to hit a shot on the turn, but fired it well wide. Was nice to see such detailed moments unfold all by themselves as I just sat and watched.
On the negative side, still moments when you need super-cancel and there are still times when it doesn't have any effect. Also, you still get marked down for getting in a cross but it not going straight to a team-mates head.
Haven't played be-a-pro career yet so perhaps cpu cheats-a-plenty await, but so far, it's the best single-player footy experience I've ever played, and by a long chalk.
And the mighty 10v10 online beckons.

Early days, Dags...early days. ;)
It's the new modes that do it (on-line and be-a-pro). If this game was still just the old school 1-player game (ie. you control all 10 players against a cheating cpu), I wouldn't be impressed. But I'm not going to dwell on that mode as I feel it has nothing to offer any more.

Since i haven't played the demo,i'd like to ask you if it's possible to

b)Make an 1-2 pass, giving the ball to your teamate and then run FREE in the field before deciding to request it back.

I like that fact, that you can actually play football on the ground in the football league. Times in the lower league's have changed and I think FIFA 09 has adpated to that quite well.
Certain teams still feel the same, but the difference between the best teams in the division and the weakest teams in the division, as well as throwing up the odd suprise results, which happens from time to time, is noticeable this series.

There's no way to aim at a certain spot per se. You need to pick out a spot in your mind and then use the analog stick and power bar to make sure it ends up there. Just like FIFA08. :)
I don't think there is a way to prevent cursor change when passing like you mention.
I really recommend doing BAP Seasons as an established player - I have just started one with Rooney and you really feel as if you are Rooney, with the strength, control, shots etc. and the United team play some really good, realistic passing football.
I may have a few saves with different types of players at different teams, such as Drogba, Gerrard, Kaka, Owen etc.
Teams definitely do not play the same way now - When I play BAP Seasons at Coventry with my created player, they really are bad compared to when you play as a good team.

I am telling the truth though, I know we are not very good, and when I say "good team", I meant "top team". The players around you give you so many more options as a top side, it's realistic.

Is it possible to assign different formations to the quick tactics options or can you only set custom tactics for the formation you start the game in. I know you can obviously change the formation from the pause menu but was really looking for a way to do this on the fly so that if eg i was a goal up playing a 4-3-3 and wanted to kill the game for the last few mins i could switch to a 5-4-1 on the fly or go all out with a 2-3-5 if losing with little time left?

I don't think there will be any universal settings for teams because you tweak the sliders to your own style of play
I was Villa and put crossing high and width full that's about it
DagsJT

No, I mean team sliders to dictate how the CPU teams normally play.
For example a Preston fan might find the CPU plays their team wrong and that they need to press the ball more, or put more crosses in etc. You can adjust the CPU teams mentality from the main menus.

I can sense a sub-thread coming up with everyone's tactical slider adjustments......
It's a great point though!
ooo i didn't know that
They seem to have them spot on though already, i looked at Arsenals and its exactly how they play

just played my first 2 games.
Liverpool vs Everton - nice to see the crowd isnt just singing YNWA most of the time, alot more chants been put in which is great. The match it self finished 1-1 went to penalties, and thanks to reina saving 2, an opening victory!!
Second game played liverpool vs villa, went 2-0 down within 22 minutes thanks to some bad defending by myself :SS Managed to get one back with torres in the second half, then on the 89th minute played a through ball to robbie keane, and he slide along the floor to meet it and slotted it into the corner whilst doing so, it looked brilliant!!
Got another with torres in extra time, only for reo coker to get one on the 115th minute, and it went to penalties, which i won 5-4.
This is one awesome game, if they put in different weather/time matches for mm then its near perfect for me.
Wont be buying pro evo this year, its fallen way behind.

That's what I've been expecting. Especially from the lower-league teams, or some Mexican teams for example. I'm sure the massive teams like Arsenal are spot-on but it'd be interesting if Chris Bauer looked at Tranmere and thought they played differently and submitted sliders for us to set them up.

Hi,
No wheather in MM ?
That's right. Well kind of.... Games are essentially played with the same settings as your standard exhibition match settings. They don't change from game to game.

Correct. Unless you have the 360 version in which case you'll only see the rain in cut scenes!

IS there anything more annoying than some tosser playing a real madrid getting a fluky 1-0 lead despite being dominated and the holding the ball with his keeper until the AI forces him to kick it. I want indirect freekicks in the new one to stop these cunts.

Isn't that kind of realistic though? The keepers are forced to kick it before a free kick would be given in real life. Timewasting is frustrating and horrible when it happens against you but it's a valid tactic imo.

This is a random query, but has anyone on here used a PS2/3 convertor on their XB360 so they can use the PS controller for FIFA? I've always found it easier with the D-Pad rather than the analogue. Dont know if thats rather anal(ogue) or not, but each to their own.
I realise the gizmo's are rather expensive :
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/XFPS-3-0-SNIPER-PLUS-KEYBOARD-MOUSE-ADAPTER-XBOX-360_W0QQitemZ170259819852QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item1 70259819852&_trkparms=72%3A984%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C2 40%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
But its an option, at least for some of us not convinced by the 360 controller for FIFA and/or PES.

the disc is chugging in my old 360. hope it doesn't break it :(
uploads are faster now. much more worthwhile.
i'm playing allberg on intermediate (i'm probably better than intermediate) and it's 2-0 ronaldo.
i used a trick effectively in the build-up to the goal. very nice.

allberg are getting sent a message by the european champions hehe
i can't believe how wicked this game is. it's like the total control feeling you get when playing it. there are some niggles, but it's just such a well put together package!
last one. berba goal. (still slowly figuring out how to use that keyframe thing for replays...

you can't do it in the lobby, but you can in the game by pressing pause and player list - select his name and remove
That sounds good but I can still see fools just sitting in the middle of the lobby until the timer gets to :02 and then finally choosing a side.

- Haven't played the retail version yet, but there were a lot of penalties in the demo. Personally I think it brings the realism a bit higher because you can't just run around sliding into everyone anymore.
- Game speed is as follows: Slow = FIFA 08, Normal = Euro 2008, Fast = FIFA 09. I believe that's the way I've seen it described most.
- Sportsworld has had it's fair share of problems. Half the replays I tried to upload in FIFA 08 never made it. Would always fail at the end.
On another note, it's a bummer to hear about the weather in MM. Why can't they include that? For that matter, why can't the weather be included in all modes and just be random or real weather based a la Madden? Doesn't seem like that it'd be that difficult to implement since they already have the tech.

Its a bug thats really ruining it for me - want to know if its just my copy!!
i have same problem game will start and ball spashes and players feet splash water around , but after a replay this will stop . but if i pause the game quickly and continue it comes back
weird.

jay is one very dirty player.
How do you do quick settings?
Like in FIFA 08, I could set my team to Neutral, Attack, All Out Attack, Defence, All Out Defence. Great and quick feature that I loved, but how do you do it in FIFA09?
Thanks

Anyhow is anyone up for a small online league tonight 360 only Im afraid. 6-8 teams, play once and games muct be completed tonight? If so post in here and drop me a PM. First come, first serve but only if you have time after 9 - 10 pm ish.

Yeah....it's no good for stuff like that but it should be fine for things like formation changes as these don't need to be done in a split second.
