hey festa. how bout the through pass?did it still the same as demo?

I've only played a few matches mate, but what was the problem with the through pass anyway, was it a bit slow?

Guys I'm out for most of the day, its my sons 7th birthday. Any questions about the game I will try and answer later tonight. But I'm sure there are other people on the forum that have the game as well.
One thing I have to say about this game is that it feels satisfying when you put the ball into the net.
Never thought I'd be praising a FIFA game. I didn't like FIFA 08 or EURO 2008 but this is tops.

It was a bit slow and I think there is a bug where the receiver also starts to side step sometimes instead of taking the ball. I've seen a lot of people complain about the later in the official forums.

Edit: Also the new videos is CPU vs CPU right? Can't see any markers over the players. Really looks like cpu which is good because I wanted to see how it would look without a bad player ruining the video.

it's slow to power up.you need to hold the button much much longer makes it feel the pass is very heavy

Managed to grab a copy yesterday for PS3 thanks to Fernandez.
A proper simulation, quality. I started manager mode with Tottenham Hotspurs. The board expects me to finish in the top 3 and win a domestic cup.
My only problem with the game is when you are fouled and your teammate quickly regains control of the ball and you are on the attack, referee blows his whistle and stops the game for a free kick. This was in the demo as well.
Finally I found that the game looks sharper at 720p(PS3). 1080P looked blurry for some reason.
what about the game speed? is it like the demo or can ua ctually see a difference when u change the game speed?

Ronaldo is a monster in this game,his free kicks are so realistic as in they can go anywhere.I played Hull v Fulham A johnson is a little bastard. Torres is shit hot,Crouch is just like his real counterpart. Shame the keepers for some games have that shitty red kit.:DD:DD:DD:DD:((

Also some brillant heading animations,you obviously see a bit more when playing longer.I signed up for the addidas Live season,and my stats changed,some players up some down.Manucho and Possebon in the Man utd squad plus the Brazilan twins,can't find Ronaldo's green boots.

Playing Man Utd v Spurs united in their 3rd blue kit and Scholes lost the ball and you can see Vidic calling is midfield players back to help out. fooking great this. Only my opinion but i think from the demo the 360 version will be better graphics,also some of the pitches look great.

One minor disapointment is about the boots, only 1 colour for most of the nike boots, especially the total 90s, would be ok if it was the white ones that everyone wears but we're stuck with the red ones. (Unless theres a way tyo edit that I cant see or EA release it as DLC)

It really is a shame that the CPU can't do skill moves. If it sometimes did this game would be so amazing even against the CPU. Hopefully they implement this in 2010. It does take a way a bit of excitement when knowing that the CPU will never try to challenge you with something tricky.

You have to change the language in your PS3 menu... if your settings say English you've got English commentary... if it say German... you've got German commentary and so on. :))

Yes, they run forward a long way, so if you time it wrong you're screwed, but if you get it right then your opposition either gets caught offside or they have to hold the ball up and wait for another passing opportunity.

That was said about FIFA 08 as well and I think that's absolutely right, if the quality of the video is quite poor then you do find it difficult to figure out if it's real or not. That's where I think PES is behind (although it doesn't matter to everyone), you can see it's virtual football instantly because of the zig-zagging and lightning-fast turn movements.

You assign it to one of the manual tactics buttons and then press one of the shoulder buttons plus the manual button you assigned it to (e.g. :l1: + :triangle:) to activate it.

How'd you get the snow in a game? Only options I see are day/night/overcast, so is it random on overcast sometimes?

It is random on overcast, from what we've been told.

Lounge mode is where you play friendlies against your mates and it stores all of the results. It's a bit rubbish though, from what I remember it randomises teams and it randomises something else as well, like "objectives" but not objectives. I forget. :eh:

There were complaints about having to unlock things like third kits, when really those should be available at the start of the game. They are now unlocked from the start (which I think they should be as well), I'm not sure if it's the same with everything else but if it is then there'll be no store.

Lounge mode has ALWAYS been in FIFA games :LOL:

it just tracks your matches againt mates, i think its an awesome mode

to the other guy you dont HAVE to use randomized teams

I know those who have the game do not have any time for special requests from us (i wouldn't even turn on my pc^^), but i have one question: Does Alexander Frei (Borussia Dortmund or Swiss national Team) have a better face now? In 08 he was only a generic player and nothing compared to real life.

I was watching Wigan - Man City, when I just had this thought. I can see that there is alot demanding that the AI should do tricks aswell. But as I watched the game, the only players doing these tricks (stepovers and rollin' the ball under their feet) was Robinho and Alex Valencia.

So what I was thinking is, they should only assign special skills to players like Robinho, C. Ronaldo and so on, and make them occur every time they have the ball.
I would even be pleased if it occured once in a while. But that would also result in a trick circus as we sometimes online, when we play these smart a-holes trying to dribble you everytime they have the ball. And I don't want that to happen when you play the AI. I want to stand with a defender attending Ronaldo, when he is doing step-overs, flip flops and dancin' like Bambi on ice. THAT IS WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE!

Every time Robinho had the ball, he was trying to play a smart pass in to space or even try to dribble his opponent. And EVERYTIME he messed up. I was just lying there, shakin' my head and thinking? WTF, if they could implement that in FIFA, they would make the perfect game.

There is no option to change ground. I've read it too the Premier League ground for clubs is changed to Ivy Ground instead of ESTADIO LAS ARTAS... So that's good news

There's a real cool east asian arena that's all neon lights looks cool. Can't see a thing that allows you to change stadium in MM. Ivy Lane for Leeds but when i played Hereford and the were home it was that old ground with 1914 written on it with the house's behind the goals.

And to the guy about free kicks, the curve seems slightly toned down from the demo, but I think now you can control it more depending on how long you hold the stick in the direction for.

i keep saying it over and over. the free kick system is perfect. hold the direction down while the bar is chargin. sometimes you'll have to let go way early (before you release the charge button).

that should help. if you hold it all the way through to the kicker kicking the ball, then you'll get MASSIVE curl in the direction you aimed.

i've scored 1 or 2 sick free kicks and you'll see a few more online when it becomes common fact.

as i say, it reminds me of topspin 3's serving.

1- Is it possible to change formations when playin online? And I don´t mean team organization and that new stuff. I mean can we edit our players positions, giving them defensive and attacking arrows and defining exactly what to do and in wich zone of the pitch they play? (like we can do in fifa team management offline)

2- Does FIFA 09 finally have SuperCancel like PES has? Wich is very important to me in a Football game as I´m used to it (and it´s realistic indeed)

I'm trying to get this confirmed by someone who has the game currently, in any case, EA say that you can use both saved formations, and custom tactic settings online. The formation includes positioning, attacking/defensive arrows, and attacking/defensive workrates.

Well I definitely can't find that option. That said, I don't like the menu system, so there are probably screens I've not seen. I can't even see the shop in this version (I was concerned at the lack of Nike boot colours. I remember reading that EA said they weren't going to make 3rd kits unlockables, so does this mean the shop has been removed?

Just played my 1st MM game, beat Hull 2-1. Was struggling to put passes together team was too stretched. I changed the custom tactic to possesion and then my whole team started giving the player with the ball options. Got some nice 1 and 2 touch stuff going, Could definatly tell the difference.

In most likelihood, Konami probably has the exclusive rights to the J-League and the JFA. I really wish they at least put in a fake Japanese national team though, since I'm Korean and it kinda sucks that we are lacking our main rival (and instead the only other national team in Asia is China, who have never beaten us in history and is not really a rival). It's like having Man U in the game but not Liverpool...

As was said above the custom tactics really do make a difference, was playing as Man City, and changed it half way through to short risky passes, free form movement. You see the attacking players popping up on the left, on the right, interchanging positions, really good for counter attacking, and especially with Man City's pace.

I think that sort of contradicts the statement of it being perfect, seeing that you can't get anywhere near as much curl on Freekicks as in the Demo, and the curl algoritms are severely flawed. I've seen a ball deflect on a players upper back-thigh, getting a downward trajectory, and then actually bending _up_ against gravity. Soccer balls in general don't have the ability to generate more lift than to counter gravity, apart from perhaps very subtly during extreme situations and curls (such as meeting a rolling ball and hitting it with lots of backspin, a so called "riser").

So "perfect" seems a bit "wrong", unless you use some other criteria than (the usually implied) "realism", in which case you could state "it is perfect, because..." or something similar. :)


All this obviously based on EA not having changed the Freekick and curl from the Demo, which noone has answered yet I believe. :)

Correct. Though Supercancel still isn't nearly as instantaneous as it should be, atleast in the demo. Generally there is more than half a second's delay (sometimes up to a second), and I also find that usually you need to tap the two buttons repeatedly in different patterns to make sure the player gets the input, otherwise you sometimes press the buttons and don't realize until its too late that the player doesn't react to it. I don't understand how hard it should be to immediately have the player moving to your PAD input. Most likely it would be some inherent delay they've added for that command, for some inexplicable reason (like they've added a delay to make sure that someone doesn't press the two buttons for an instant by accident, but instead it needs to be a deliberate 1-second press to avoid any chance of cancelling a run by mistake). It can be frustrating dealing with it.

Trance: all i know is i'm able to adjust the amount of curl with consistency on my free kicks and corners. that seemed to be the main complaint. for me it's perfect. i've not nailed it each time. but i've not been far off many times.

i was just pointing out that the ridiculous curl you get is from taking freekicks the same way as 08. it's definitely been redone more like how ou aim while charging you serve in top spin 3. that drew criticism too as it varies from player to player how long you hold the curl/dip/backspin down.

This Year i turn my back from PES to FIFA 09!

After I had played the demo from FIFA09 my descicion is to change after long time playing pes!

I played pes from day 1 and it was all the time better than fifa!

But this year fifa will climb on the top of the soccer-simulation-olymp!

Being a Newcastle Fan myself, how they rated in the game? Never mind whats happening in real life at the minute! Certainly wont be signing up to the live season thing for a bit I wouldn't get over the half way line

Who is going to get live season? Is it just me or does it not seem a pointless exercise unless you are playing a matching real life MM, and according the news it does not work in MM!...
No, it's for the guys like me who watch Match of the Day and put FIFA on straight afterwards to play online. It's purely for online games and nothing else, mainly ranked matches. I'm really, really looking forward to it; it's something I've wanted to see in a football game for yonks.

You can't get any closer to "playing" Match of the Day than that.
