sorry if this has already been asked but how do you dummy the ball, ie. let a pass go through your legs for another team mate to run on to?

it's in one of the trailers so i'm presuming it's definitely in the game but i haven't been able to execute it yet.

sorry again if this has already been asked

how the hell do you activate the celebrations?

I finally managed to score on World class but the instructions to celebrate flashed up too quickly.

After so many games without scoring I want to celebrate :-)

Right, my two penneth.

Great demo. One bugbear that is STILL there, that still fucking annoys me. When a corner kick is cleared we are still not allowed to switch player. I was through on goal on a number of a occasions but couldn't volley the ball because I couldn't control my player.

I really hope they sort this come the final release.

I'm noticing a lot of FPS lag on replays and in arena. (Xbox360 @ 720p) Not a game ruiner but it certainly detracts from the experience. Would be good if they sort it out for the final release or perhaps people know some tips for improving it.

Also player switching is taking a bit of getting used to.

I really love the player switching in Fifa, it is so great. With the right analog stick you can switch to every player you want, anytime. you really have full control. it can't be better than this.

Gawd, have they still not sorted out the framerate in replays? That always put me off buying the full game. I find it really distracting when the game plays so smooth and then it turns into a slideshow during the replays and cut scenes

Can someone from FIFA Soccer blog maybe, be able to tell us how old the build used for the demo is?

Reading Suffwan's article, it sounds as if he was playing a much newer build than that we are all playing at the minute?

It's definetley older than the end of August that's for sure due to Robinho still being active at Real Madrid etc.

And im sure that demo has to have a month's approval from Microsoft and Sony, before its allowed to be published on the marketplace and PSN, so my guess is the build is from around July time.

However if someone can confirm that would be smashing.

All we can say is that both the demo and the build Suff played were not the final version. So you can imagine tweaks being in the retail product.

- the shoting is to easy and to accucary. Yes i can choose manual shoting settings, but where is the advantage? It is only more difficult...
- the passing to easy and to accucary.

Not sure i understand this. On the one hand you are saying it is a negative thing that the shooting is too accurate and easy. You also identify that you could change to manual.
If you are really saying that the shooting (presumably on auto) is too accurate and easy and that is a bad thing then the "advantage" of putting it on manual (or semi) is that the shooting becomes harder and less accurate.
I don't see how you can criticise the game for this - if you want the challenge play on manual or semi and if you don't play on auto.

Just scored an absolutely unbelievable goal, I hit the ball with venom after running a bit in midfield (just to relieve the pressure to be honest) and it went in. Reminds me of Di Matteo's goal in the FA Cup years ago:

YouTube - Robert DiMatteo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVGi-j2g5CE)

I'm still loving the demo, I've only seen two "issues" so far - the speed (which I have to admit is just a bit too fast), and I've seen the CPU score a scissor-kick directly from my defender chesting the ball a couple of inches forward (would never happen).

Can't wait to take this baby online though, October is too far away.

Trance_Allstar

If you are really saying that the shooting (presumably on auto) is too accurate and easy and that is a bad thing then the "advantage" of putting it on manual (or semi) is that the shooting becomes harder and less accurate.
I don't see how you can criticise the game for this - if you want the challenge play on manual or semi and if you don't play on auto.

Basically, what I think he is saying is that the shooting might be too accurate at hitting exactly where your aim was.

Basically, the reason I don't find "Manual" shooting to be worth using is that in real life, if I "shoot", I aim to hit the goal, which is sort of obvious. So "Semi" allows me to use the full range of the analog stick to aim anywhere on the goal, and a small distance outside the posts to perhaps compensate for possible curl.
So the "aim" isn't where the challenge to shooting should come from (since, if I am shooting for goal, I would in most cases be aiming somewhere on goal, thus I don't need to be able to aim for the corner flag or extremem distances from the goal). Instead the challenge of shooting, as in real life, simply comes from the task of translating where you want to aim, to where the ball ends up.

When you see a player in real life who, from the penalty spot, misses a shot by 5 meters from the post, you can sort of guess that he was aiming at goal. So the aim, and the direction the ball ended up going, were very different. These types of misshits and differences between aim and shot might be underrepresented in FIFA09, leading to unrealistic amounts of shots that find just the spot you were aiming for. Very few players in real life can pick out the top corner from a distance. Depending on the skill of the player, they will have a "natural" shot dispersion that will make a ball differ from the intended trajectory by a certain number of degrees. Also depending on stats, the player will also have a certain degree of natural "mishits", where the ball hits even wider than his natural dispersion degree.

So the problem that the poster might have is that if you aim for the top corner from 25 meters (with semi shooting):

1. 8 out of 10 shots will hit almost exactly where you were aiming, with a dispersion radius of, say, 20cm from that aim point.

2. The remaining 2/10 shots will perhaps have a dispersion degree of perhaps 50cm radius from the aim point.

Whereas in real life:

1. 1 or 2 balls out of 10 might find the top corner

2. 6 balls land within the natural dispersion area for the player, which from the distance might be 1.5 meters from the aim point (top corner)

3. 2-3 balls are what might be called "mishits", landing outside the players natural dispersion area, with more unpredictable dispersion degrees, depending on the severity of the mishit (meaning 1 ball might've hit 3 meters from the top corner, and 1 might've simply rolled on the ground to the side from a complete mishit, not even making it to the goal.

This disconnect from reality, which has nothing to with intention (where you are aiming with the analog stick), and everything to do with execution (the physical task of kicking the ball and the skill of the player to perform what he intends), was what I took from the original post.

Got the Pal PSN still has blockyness for me in arena same as NTSC. (Not sure 1080 bug on PS3 or something wouldnt be first time with game not visible on 360 version at all)

And i had the feeling last night but wanted to test all out to see if not going loopy. But for me Slow and Normal on PS3 play a more speedy game compared to Xbox 360 version they are not same settings feels different.

360 1080 over VGA and PS3 1080 over HDMI and last night i had them on both same time and was flicking over playing each one and PS3 seems tad bit quicker on each setting strange i cant work out if speed or response it seems abit of both.

WOW! I have just scored an absolutley awesome volley! Never have I seen so much pace, power and bend on ball physics as I have just witnessed.

Crossed in from the left and my striker struck from about 25 yards out, so cleanly it absolutley riffled above the keepers head and dipped under the cross bar.

The bend on the ball was unbelivable.

In fact it is the best goal I have ever scored on any football game.

So far so good, played a few matches so far using Real Madrid, Milan and Chelsea and I must say you can really feel the individual player when your using them. I love the the way the Ai are playing as well, they build up their own unique plays which trick you, and it's a challenge. Also the headers are a massive improvement, you can challenge for them and they look brilliant.

I love the game, and it's a must by.

Only a few minor things, the speed is a bit to much, and the tackles sometimes look over-exaggerated.

why is the PS3 one so muggy and muddy compared to the 360 one? wtf?

It even stutters where the 360 vr. was smooth! The clarity has gone too! I'm not even a fanboy, this is just me using my eyes. I have the PS3 hooked up to and HDMI and normally my games like better on it. (Force unleashed for ex.)

There isn't enough individuality amongst the players, certain playrs like Kaka and Ronnie have it but I've tried a few times to run games through Guti and Pirlo and the likeness isn't there.

The most impressive things in the demo are the ball physics (except for FK's on goal) and the through balls. I played a lovely through ball with Sneidjer from a crossing position that Ruud finished off with a first time shot.

Also I had more control over my players when I swtiched to dpad.

I can't stop playing this. The differences between this and FIFA08 are immense, there's really no comparison. Apart from the speed of the game, which is a tad too fast even when played on "slow", everything feels a lot better and realistic.

i find it weird when people say that bout the players. i notice a big difference. Especially during midfield battles. some players can control it, and others it's best to pass it first time. Lampard is for example, good for controlling and 1-2's and one-touch passing around the box.try the same with obi mikel and you'll see lol

i really need to upload that ronny throughball i did just now. it was ouside of the foot curling past a defender and the striker made an "X" run behind the defender. amazing stuff.

Well i only just got the PS3 demo (i'm online right now even going back and forth between 360 and PS3. I promise you it looks better on 360. Dunno why. Maybe the resolution settings?) and I did a curled throughball, went to the replay mode, and just hit rewind all the way expecting it to stop after a sec (like the 360 one) but it kept going on and on, right back till kick off lol.

I hope it's in the final game. I'm betting its a PS3 exclusive feature.

I like the controls better on PS3 and i don't know why. I think the sensitive analogue sticks suit the tricks and the tricky nature you're meant to use them. :)Cause there aren't any notches/groves on the PS3 one i'm doing step-overs easier than ever. Infact first thing i did was beat the gk in the arena with step-overs before a game with Pato in the PS3 version.

I dunno man. Normally i like the 360 controller more.

I promise you guys i'm nt being a fanboy about this. Not sure if anyone else mentioned the differences, but those are the major ones. You can't tell in screenshots off my tv so i'm guessing it's a resolution thing (with the muddy visuals).

im not liking that at all

It wouldn't be so bad if i didn't create chances but the running of the players makes a though ball very very easy for a 1 on 1 with the keeper

First off I am neither pro-FIFA or pro-Evo, having played both over the past 10 years or so depending simply on which game I preferred that year. That said can someone PLEASE explain to me this insistence that in PES you "feel" the individuality of players whereas in FIFA you don't - it honestly makes no sense and seems to be just a nonsensical argument someone made up a while back and has just been blindly accepted.
I posted this several months ago in the PES09 forum and got no reply (other than Placebo agreeing with me):

Seriously I don't get this - other than superior pace and/or unique special skills how do you 'have' the individuality of players?? All that the programmers can do is give them numerical coding in the different categories of ratings and make different players better at doing different things, not as if they can inject a persona into polygons.
Of course you can make them look very similar to their real life counterparts in physical attributes but what is this individuality of which you speak? And please don't respond that 'you can just FEEL the difference in PES' - elaborate on what exactly it is that you're feeling - other then a player having a higher rating and being able to shoot, pass, dribble, run, man-mark, tackle or do skills well, what gives them this 'individuality'?
I think this might simply exist in your mind cuz programming is just numbers and characters plain and simple. Seriously, what can you expect out of a computer generated player other than to have a higher rating in their stats?? They can't actually have character or personality - they're just a bunch of pixels.
I've played PES for years and seems to me that players all pretty much do everything the same within their ranking sector but maybe I'm just not seeing it.

I think that's a very good post, and I agree with you practically 100%. But saying that, the place you notice it most is in the career modes.

In PES's Master League, if I buy a new player, you do get a "feel" for him straight away. But I think this might be because the difference is exaggerated; he will be a lot faster or a lot slower, he will "get away" with certain dribbling movements more than others and beat more men (purely because the CPU cheats less when they have to deal with a better player - the harder AI difficulties only deals with you by making your players less responsive, rather than its own players more intelligent), his shots won't balloon over the bar as often (which pisses me off with PES6 and beyond, tap the shoot button with nobody around you and the ball will blast over the bar for no apparent reason) etc...

Whereas in FIFA, especially at a lower-league level, you feel like you may as well not buy replacements unless their skill level is 10 points higher overall at least. Because their speed and the AI interaction with them will be the same. And I think this also leads to the issue people have where playing Man Utd or Toronto FC is exactly the same - I can see where they're coming from, although I've felt it improve a lot more in this demo. Even saying that, it's not that different from PES. I will be pushed to the max playing Man Utd but my last PES2008 on PSP game with them finished 5-5, whereas playing Fulham is a bit easier (last result 2-1 to me). Not hugely different, especially on the hardest difficulty.

In ISS when I'm playing with Milan or Italy I usually play the game through Pirlo, when he is on the ball you instanly know because of the way he slows the game down and because of how he passes the ball. The way he moves, the way he forces you to play differently when he is in possesion, its these small things that do it for me.

Deco is another player who is in the same mould, in ISS he doesn't roll the ball under his foot like he does in real life but when your passing and shooting with him you get that feeling and you think to yourself "I'm controlling Deco here and not Xavi, I can feel the difference in my fingers".

In the Fifa demo Guti feels exactly the same as Diarra, both are completly different players yet you dont feel it. When Kaka and Ronaldhino are the ball you can feel it because they move differently to the rest.

its hard to explain.

Agility, dribbling, balance, shot power and accuracy were also definitely distinguishable from player to player. I think a lot of the other attributes did play a part, but were more subtle.

I made up a Scotland legends team in PES3 or thereabouts and by exaggerating the key attributes of certain players (eg. Joe Jordan, big, powerful, great header....Gordon Strachan, small, skilful, good acceleration....Mo Johnston, lethal finisher, etc), every player felt very distinctive and I felt very happy to play with this team filled with personality. The PES editor was excellent for manipulating stats and also players' appearance.

That said, the vast majority of players in PES were generic with made up stats, so were barely more distinctive than they are in FIFA.

If FIFA had the same editing options as PES, I think we'd be able to create very distinctive players. Ronaldinho feels very different to others, likewise Drogba...proof that it's already in the game.

i do see a lot of diference between passes and long passes too..acurancy wise and speed too.
thats something ull only notice if u play it for a considerable amount of time the game, same goes for fifa...
if u dont play it a lot ull only notice speed and drible ability difernce.

in pes u can notice balance, speed and drible if u dont play it a lot.
But than u start noticing more diferences and after u got used to the game ull evan notice diferent ways of positioning(due to ofense and defense stats)and how the mentality and teamwork stat affects players.

I am a hardcore PES fan, but I have to say I enjoyed the FIFA 09 demo.

Obviously it feels really different to Pro Evo. But customizing the controls to fit the PES scheme helped a lot. And while it may not feel as natural to me as PES does, I think the actual gameplay is realistic.

I blocked a penalty and scored on a quick counter attack and it was very satisfying.

It looks like I'll be buying both for the first time and we'll see what I play more.

In my opinion what i think people meant when they say that is, the feeling that you have when for an example you control Drogba in PES is hard to take the ball out of him, not because of the speed but because of the balance that he have. When controlling Messi is the same you can turn fast, and not just for the speed, because with wright philips you can run fast but the turning sucks, and in the past FIFAS the problem is that you just feel diferences in run and streght of players, of course there´s the pass and shooting skill that afects all players as well. In previous PES you with Gerrard or Lampard can make amazing passes but if you try with a player less effective on passing you cannot do that.

I think the whole question in here is that the player attributes have a greater feeling and impact in PES than in FIFA

But yes in PES 2008 the speed and balance is all that count because with etoo messi ronaldo and ronaldinho you do whatever you want, but in previous PES the feeling is other, so lets see this PES 2009

But i´ve been playing this Fifa 09 for many games and i think that this feeling is in this game to now, in example with chelsea if you are with joe cole against a tough defender like heinze is difficult to pass just running, you have to drible around them.

But FIFA 09 steel lack sometimes in responsiveness, maybe because of the difficult in 360 controllers like someone said back there.

I also remember reading something a few years ago about PES that if you have a player with high technique and passing such as Zidane in the older games,

other players would make better runs, so finding a player with Zidane, Pirlo etc would be easier. I always thought this was a good way of implimenting the qualities of a highly technical player.

In real life a player would possibly make more runs if a Pirlo type player was on the ball, as they know that Pirlo has a good chance of spotting and finding them.

This differance in technical ability of each player has still not been replicated in FIFA

Well, PES made a habit of exaggerating the differences between players. Particularly the Agility and Response parameters. World-Class players could turn on a dime, superhumanly so.
Also, the way they could maintain speed through some types of moves was superhuman, aswell as their ability to change direction without having to actually stop themselves properly. It was like they had half the mass of a person, they could stop themselves and start sprinting in another direction too fast.

And, from what I've seen of 09 and also 08, the main thing the FIFA guys need to rework is the trapping. Even crap players can trap impossible balls, and they can do it at impossible angles. And they also do it seemingly perfectly composed aswell.
Once they get that reworked, the differences will be felt the moment you receive a ball with a lesser player, since he will trap it slower, be less precise in the direction he traps it, and not keep the ball as close to his body, meaning he will need more open space to be able to do it without fear of an opponent getting to the ball.

Basically, they need to make a system similar to PES5. PES5 was awesome when it came to the differences between players with regards to trapping. When you had a bad player, you just disliked passing to them since you knew they'd miss the trap and have to chase the ball down after it bounced off their boot or such.

So basically, PES exaggerates the best players too much, while FIFA could do with making the less skilled players worse in some aspects.

I love the way the collision system affects the aerial challenges, you have to really fight for your position with the opponent, with the stronger players being able to muscle defenders away so they can head it and the bigger players towering over the smaller players. The collision system isn't just cosmetic though as I thought it may be, it actually makes a big difference to the gameplay. You really feel the difference between going up for a challenge with Drogba and, let's say, Ronaldinho or Robben.

That leads onto another thing I love about the game, the headers at goal - You really have to aim your crosses accurately in front of of your player so that your players' momentum takes them onto the ball, you really can power in headers, it wasn't possible in 08. The AI also adds to this as when you play as Chelsea, Ballack (who is very strong in the air) often makes late runs into the box at speed which means he is very effective at powering in headed goals, like he is in real life.

The shooting is much improved also, well struck shots really feel powerful, meaning you can hit the sort of shots which rise and rise until they go in, they look great and were not possible on 08. The penalties are also much better this time around - no more shuffling across the goal line to stop pens and no more easy to hit unsaveable top corner penalties (meaning that aiming for the corners with power is a risk now), the camera angle is also much better on pens.

Animations - just great, they look realistic and they flow seamlessly, it's the best animated football game ever, and one of the best animated sports games ever. Not much else can be said about them really, they are just great.

Keepers - Probably the best improvement along with animations, they have "humanised" (is that a word?) them - they no longer save unstoppable shots and let in silly rolling shots at the near post, they actually act in a realistic manner is most cases, charging out in 1 on 1s, punching the ball on crosses/corners when there is pressure etc. On 08 they were terrible at their near post and too good at their far post, this is no longer the case and leads to much more thought going into which corner you aim for.

Responsiveness - It's sorted, not sluggish at all. The responses are slower while sprinting but that is good, it forces people into playing a more realistic style instead of holding sprint all game.

Graphics - Not hugely different from 08 but the player models look a lot better and the lighting seems a bit better and the faces look much better.

Onto negatives:

Assisted controls are too easy as usual - finesse shots into the far corner while 1 on 1 with assisted shooting is always a goal. Doesn't really bother me most of the time as I use semi/manual controls but it could affect 10v10. The passing is also too simple - just pick a recipient and press the button = perfect pass to feet.

Normal speed is a bit too fast - Slow seems realistic though, but as Normal is the default online setting, then it may affect 10v10. It's not arcadey fast, just slightly faster than realistic.

Free kick ball physics - While I think they underdid the dip and swerve you could get on set pieces on 08, I think they have exaggerated them here. No game breaker for me and I am confident that it will be sorted by release.

The demo is only 2 mins long!!!!

Im debating on button press think its way to sensitive in Fifa 08 and Euro the physics were floaty but the button press were perfect. Now it feels the complete flip opposite with button press and this on Semi same as i did with Fifa 08 it seems now you have to pretty much tap it or shot going to go over. Dosnt seem to be total control over the power you want to put on but then i see few have complained here so cant be just me.

Although saying this playing PS3 demo i felt more at home as played Fifa 08 and Euro so maybe its adapting back to controller. I would play PS3 demo but the speed issue and blockyness are rather off putting 360 version smooth as silk and speed much more at level it should be.

A little analysis after a few hours play:

+ Player faces and body shapes look much better
+ Very much liking the quicker turning and response of players
+ Shooting is much better, now able to pull off some proper long range shots.
+ Penalties also feel much better
+ Goal nets look very nice
+ Crowd chanting, not to mention when you can hear the odd "Take him off!" when you give away the ball!
+ Free kicks are good, pulled off a beauty with Drogba, was almost identical to the one he scored away to Paris St Germain in the Champions League Group Stages a few years ago.

- Refs seem a bit card happy.
- The advantage rule implementation is a tad suspect, as some AI players go a bit weird when they have an advantage.
- AI Players seem to loose their bearings occasionally when near the touchline.
- AI also reluctant to shoot when clean through on goal.

This is just a quick write up, nothing major, and overall, very enjoyable, PES will have to do well to get my money this year.

so i'm not the only one. the PS3 version is so blurry when playing the 360 version. gonna put it on 720p too in sec to see if it makes a difference...

i could swear the PS3 version is easier too. on hard i'm tearing Marseilles apart with AC on the PS3 but on the same setting on 360 i'm laboring a win... weird.

maybe it is as i said before, that i prefer the DS3 controller. But again, that would be strange cause i played all of Fifa08 on the 360 controller and normally find my DS3 controller uncomfortable for sports games.

the game is indeed awesome though. if you were good @ fifa08, fifa09 will treat you kindly. my main problem is pressing the buttons to stretch and reach the ball cause before that would be a foul! heh

As i said earlier your finding it easy to score as the speed of game not same as 360 version on slow and normal.

In turn feels PS3 version has better response but im not sure might be down to speed i prefer 360 version if wasnt for speed i would prefer PS3 version i think.

I think you're right Bingham. It becomes the same when you play the 360 version on FAST. Weird... I thought they would have made NORMAL the default for PS3...

You can do it in game if you pause the game and go to controls - you change the buttons by pressing A over the button you want to change then going to the button you want to change it to and press A again. It then swas them over :DD

same here. but as i say the game plays faster on PS3. plays more like how you'd imagine a FIFA'd Pro Evo if that makes sense. Lightening controls etc. I kinda like it. I't definitely not the same game/build as 360. i find it way easier scoring in the PS3 demo.

Well, I've played the demo when I can due to having lots on at the minute.

It's lovely isn't it?

Sometimes the pace is a bit too much, a bit PES-like, but it sort of adds to the balance. It's not perfect, but those manic moments are quite nice after the extremely slow bits of 08.

Love the shooting, really so much improved after last year. That was my one major negative with 08.

No as in for example when I am on a break way for example I just feel far less unable to gain that extra yard on the defender or fool them with 1-2's etc they are just not prone to error I know I am playing on world class and the other difficulties would be easier but thats no fun when its too easy either.

PS3 or 360 version and what version at Leipzig was PS3 wasnt it. ?

I have had quite alot chances against AI on world class more then Fifa 08 on there Toronto would be super human on world class and above not case this time. Also passing is much crisper when AI Madrid then Toronto you can see gulf in class much more also.

I think PS3 version speed setting dont work glitched or something pace of game so different to 360. Its like the game speed setting stuck to fast but even then dosnt remind me of brief spell i had on fast on 360.

You get more chances to score then previous game on World Class the AI feels more human then ever been aswell it not perfect but its good. Only problem for me is taking them chances and thats what making game head to pens i scored alot but go for side foot sometimes and come off post annoyed with myself because should of put it into corner gone for spectacular instead of simple.

I always used controller setting New Alternate on 08, but a couple of the buttons are different in New Alternate on 09. the LT & LB buttons seem to be switched. I always used to hold down LB for trick moves but now its LT.

Just noticed something else I love. You can actually get the keeper to get up off his fat arse and run with the ball in his hands and throw it out quickly. Dunno how many times in 08 i was losing near the end and the keeper was lying back smoking his pipe, soaking up the rays as I battered the pass button continuously

Played alot of game tonight with mates and i have seen the best football played and best goals scored ever in a football game

In one Cisse right of goal 12 yards out you think hes gonna square it for a possible tap-in and he hits the sweetest outside of the right foot shot i have ever seen

another time my mate beats the keeper and is ready to pull the trigger and out of nowhere a defender comes across and takes the man and the ball and prevents a certain goal

I am now going to start scoring own goals to avoid shootouts :)) That is a good idea which I didn't even give a thought to before. Thanks Placebo :TU:.

Also, that one song from the demo is starting to get on my nerves now.

yeah i always do that, can't wast more time taking penalty kicks in almost every match, it take more time then the actual game match. all i do in the last 5min of the game is, pass the ball to the gk, pres the running button with out any direction, so the ball go throw his legs, quick and simple.

Played like 7-10 games and I really really like it. It's super fluid, has superb animations, and flows like a real match. This is indeed a very early build since #1, Robinho is still in Madrid, and Jankulovsky is still in Milan instead of Atletico Madrid. #2, It was confirmed that there will be players vivible on the bench and there isn't here. So, it's obvious the final build will be different. My only major gripe is that gameplay is a tad bit too fast on "slow" mode. Just a tad. I could nit pick a little more but then again, you can find problems in any game, regardless how great. I see this as the absolute best footy game (along with WE9) I have ever played and it's just a demo. I expect some minor tweaks and some paint job touch ups in the final build. I think it'll be excellent and probably sports goty contender (along with NHL 09) so far.

my impression of the fifa09 demo so far is possitiv
especially the fact that the responsivnes and the players reaction, are greatly improved, from the last year unplayable fifa08 (before someone throw stones at me, i must say in my opinion) only that its a huge improvment for me.

what i also liked is, the players feel more lighter, and u feel u have more controll over them.
i also like the animations in the game, and there are lots of it.

players use they brain of the ball, and sems to move realisticly on the pitch, giving u lots of options to pass the ball.

the game sems more physiqul, more like premiership style of football, they fight for the ball in every situation, like streatch to win the ball, or diving header to clear it, pushing eachother strength to srength, its amazing. (me as a deffender, playing as a stopper in real life, i love it).
overall is a great football game, attacking and deffending is well balanced judging it from this short demo.

the only problem is in arena the player feels more responsiv and smother while controling them, and when he does the tricks, but in actual game, the game sems to heat some slowdowns, and that maybe is the reasen why.
i hope ea will fix that, before the game comes out.

i really would like to happen in the game one day well i hope, the that when cpu is controlling a skillfull player, he would try to play as he does in real life, dribble u, not even ones that ever happen before,
that was something i always wanted to be done, in the football games, so that we can't predict the cpu, whem i play, but i gues that, every companys focus is in online experience, so i don't think they will bother with al that much.

MY IMPRESSIONS OF FIFA 09 DEMO

Well i am impressed. Firstly the game looks fine on my ps3. Cant understand comments saying it looks blurry and un-sharp. I have a 40"samsung 1080 and it looks stunning on my set up.

I like the menu design, very clear and easy to use.

The players likenesses are stunning imo. Love it when you see Terry in the tunnel before a game. Much improved over Euro2008 where the players had that waxy look to them. Kaka too looks superb.

I like the improved crowd graphics.

Now to the nitty gritty. The gameplay. Well i am very impressed. Feels more smooth than Euro. Faster buthave not changed the default speed settings as of yet. But although faster i think this can depend on how you play the game. I personally like to knock the ball around and have slow build ups so i find the pace fine for my style. The heading in this game is brilliant. It really takes good timing to win the challenges and there are so many diffrent animations. Shooting imo, is good. Better than Euro. I have scored 2 long range corkers already. Quite sensitive but think it just needs getting used to. Love the collision system. Love it when i sythed down Robben. Very lifelike. The AI is good too. They make mistakes and can be tackled unlike euro2008 when it seemed it was scripted, like when san marino turn into Brazil when you go 1-0 up against them.Cant wait til the full game. Shame the demo is 2 min halves as it does not give you time to really get in to a match. Cant understand why we could not have had longer. I mean its not as if it would stop you buying the full game. Could of done without the shootouts at the end or at least have the option to turn them off, gets very boring after a while. So all in all......I LOVE IT....ps wasnt the pro evo demo supposed to be out at the same time?

it is just an incredible game, played SO many matches and i still see new animations here and there and also the goals are all different. love the fact that the keepers arent super humans anymore and NO MORE CHEAP CROSS GOALS!!! yay!! only scored like 1 goal from a cross lol

i also like how if you make a wrong pass the players that should have received the ball gets annoyed lol or when i try to make a great pass but is intercepted and the player who was supposed to receive it claps :D very nice touches

gripes and complaints in demo which i hope is sorted out in retail version:
1. can't select any other outfield player to take a throw-in, free kicks and corner kicks apart from assigning 1 free kick taker for each short and long distance. this is beyond annoying

2. i tried assigning captain to other player during a match and it says you're not allowed....what??? has fifa seen a real football match before when the captain is substituted?

how do you aim my shots without getting my player to turn? everytime i try to set power first and aim later, my guy always hits it down the middle. if i try to aim while shooting, he turns and always runs into a defender or out of scoring angles.

I havent been able to read through every page yet, but is anyone seeing what I'm seeing, that it doesn't matter who you are or what team you're playing against, that the game is just as hard? I played many games Real against Toronto and it was very tough-- i then proceeded to play a few games with ME being Toronto against Chelsea and I held my own just the same! I really am aching to try the game multiplayer because i think this will get rid of some of the issues- but one thing im very worried about is that i thought this year would be a big emphasis on attributes, and so far it doesn't necessarily seem that way... I'd like to hear what u guys think, esp the ones that have played some multiplayer

but then i picked Chelsea and he picked Marseille and i DOMINATED the match, so for me teams do make a difference

It depends on what difficulty level. If you clicked experienced then of course toronto will be hard - experienced players will be able to win. Thats how it works. The teams are separated much more on intermediate - Milan are definately the best (questionable - but its firmly down to their tactics), yet Chelsea are the hardest to breakdown and madrid are less good defensively because Pepe, im sorry, is not as good as JT. If I play toronto on intermediate with chelsea its a lot easier for me to dominate than if i was playing madrid. Not easy to win, though , but in my mind it should never be easy to win as long as there are professional footballers on the pitch. The attributes make much more of a difference in this iteration than in any previous FIFAs. I would even stretch as far to say that the attributes matter more in this than PES, where players only feel different via speed & agility & shot height. FIFA differentiates players on their positioning, their "typical" moves (similar to FM), as well as all their PES attributes. Teams are mainly different via the summation of each player being different, as WELL as their tactical implementation. Its Spot On.

Its Spot On.

Interesting, thanks guys. I should know better considering how much I played Euro and Fifa and knowing how much better multiplayer was- but for me then there was still an attribute problem. I've been playing on experienced so I guess on that difficulty they just make every team good- i mean toronto was beating me to headers and everything. Though it's weird that I chose Toronto and Chelsea couldn't beat me on experienced.

Wish I had someone around to try multiplayer! :(

I agree with the headers. Finding it really difficult to win headers in this version. Well thats not entirely true. Offensive headers. I win most headers in defence, but have yet to have a shot on goal via a header. :SS Maybe im a crap crosser?

Haven't heard any feedback on the new standing tackle where you hold down LT/LB while holding down the standing tackle button to only run by the other players side. And then release LT/LB to have a go at the ball, anyone tried it out yet?

Also, is it easy to defend by just holding down the standing tackle button all the time? Or is it possible that you take the player down instead because there is no timing involved when just holding it down?

I wish I could test it out myself but they never seem to release this demo for Silver users.

You should write this in the official forum, in the FIFA 08 feedback and 09 demo feedback. It's a very good point that I think they might have overlooked but will think is a very good idea.

You can quit the match at the final whistle if you get in during the first or second of the ref's 3 toots on the whistle. Just keep an eye on the clock so you know it's coming. Saves the tedium of shoot-outs.

EA SPORTS today revealed a new online mode called FIFA 09 Clubs, designed for PLAYSTATION 3 and XBOX 360, that enables gamers to form or join user-controlled ‘clubs’ anywhere in the world. Through FIFA 09 Clubs, gamers can form or join clubs of up to 50 friends and field their strongest team when competing in Be A Pro: 10 v 10 Online Team Play, a feature that enables 20 people on 20 different consoles anywhere in the world to connect online to play a single match of FIFA 09.

FIFA 09 Clubs will determine the best virtual team in the world. Clubs are ranked based on total points and placed in a division. Clubs are relegated and promoted to different divisions based on their performance during the season. In addition, FIFA 09 Clubs will enable Club Managers to scout rival players to identify a player that fits his or her squad, and then recruit them to join their club. Up to 10 players on a Club can participate in a single game and Clubs are able to play multiple games simultaneously if they wish.

One thing I wish they would to is to simulate manual controls on the AI. In 08 and Euro they pretty much always hit perfect crosses because they're on assisted.

If they would have those manual controls and add some sort of confidence attribute they might be able to simulate shitty players like Daniel Andersson in Sweden. You know, hitting those retarded passes that are not even close to his team mates because his under pressure and afraid of losing the ball. This never happens in computer games because every pass/cross always goes to a player.

They have panic defence where the defender gets scared and just clears the ball. They should add this to some midfielder too. Obviously Xavi and those players would never do this, but less confident players do in real life when under pressure. Most of the time they hit a long ball for the forward to run after and usually it's over hit. But sometimes they might try to do a normal pass but fail miserable because they're stressed out.

to the quote above, then people will start calling this unresposive and complain about response times ;))

Haha, probably true. ;)

Though to be honest, PES5 had a good system, extremely well balanced, and people don't complain about that being unresponsive, as far as I know anyways.

In PES5, sometimes the player would receive the ball on the top of his boot, causing the ball to jump up in the air, and you'd have to wait for the ball to fall down before the player could touch it again with his boot, or you could trap the ball again and control it with the chest in the direction you wanted to go.

Also, in PES5, trapping forwards or 45 degrees to the sides was fairly easy, but trapping and moving 90 degrees to the side or backwards was much more prone to failure, you couldn't really predict the touch. This meant that, just like in real life, if you had anything but world class players, whenever you received a ball, your safest bet was to move into the ball for the player to get control, and then start moving. This because when trapping "towards" the ball, you have the whole leg and foot behind the ball. Trapping to the side and such usually means sticking out your leg and needing to contact the ball on the inside or outside of the foot, which means that if the ball skips off the ground at the moment you trap, it will hit high on the boot and possibly roll/jump over or at least not be trapped "down" into the ground, meaning it will start bouncing and make the next move harder. Or it might be bouncing, causing you to have your foot too high, meaning the ball could potentially roll completely under your foot.

And, I also really want them to include the PES "patented" "trap, stop and turn" move. Where when you receive the ball with a stationary or slow moving player, you can trap the ball and have the player turn in the direction you specify in a single motion (PES R2 + direction). It would allow for some tighter trapping in small spaces, assuming the player is stationary or moving slowly. It's not really feasible performing the move with any real speed, since the foot movement needed to perform the move in most cases makes it impossible to stop at the same time.

Certainly, wait until after you've played the full game in order that comments are based on fact and will have credence, but given EA "appear" to be listening, I think it's important to post your ideas somewhere where they might actually read them (unless you just email them direct).

I think the whole overhaul of the control system is a revolution in footy gaming that needs to happen at some point. FIFA09 is good but there's still so much that could be done to make it hugely more satisfying. EA may not have even given any thought to rethinking the control system, so that seed needs to be sown in their minds.

I did post a lengthy thread there a few months ago about improvements to 5v5 and got a actually got a "thank you" reply from one of the mods, which most posts don't get, so I'll be interested to see if he then passed it onto the develeopment team and if any of the suggestions were implemented in 09. If not, I'll be less optimistic about that forum having much worth, but if so, then it would be proof that they do listen and act.

Demo goals by Rob aka Wepeeler, some of them are really nice, there is nothing to date closer to a real football match than watching Fifa09 IMO.

That is awesome. Finally FIFA has got some personality! You could clearly tell who is on the ball, not by his physique, but by his playing style. Especially those RVN goals, that was him alright!

I suspect they have not empathized this feeling of diversity and personality for the lesser known players yet, but by the time they will, then ..wow.

How about the framerate guys? There has not been reported allot of stutter, other then the sporadic(I can live with that if it happens once every 3-5 mathces). But how is the basic framerate? I remember how the Arena was fluid in F08, but on the pitch, obvious perhaps, it struck down too harsh imo and thereby affecting the response time. I like a game to be smooth as butter in that respect. It has to have a really stable and solid framerate so that there is no distraction whatsoever between my input and the ingame effects(like in arena mode). Can anyone report on this please? Thanks!
