yeah.. in the replay in euro 2008 it's very poor. i'm headache just watching the replay

From feedback in official forum:

"The replays still aren't silky smooth, especially on the super close-ups (which I've always hated, but they are a massive improvement, and the user controlled replay offers a silky smooth slow mo option."

...

"The frame drop as the ball crosses the line has gone completely, thank ****, and the nets look bloody brilliant when the ball hits them."

After playing a few games I'm impressed so far. The game plays at a nice tempo, passing has more of a zip to it - everything in general feels as thought it is tightened up from 08. The new collision engine is awesome - I had 3 straight reds in my first game after putting in some ferocious tackles. Tackling will be a fine art in this game.

Shooting is much improved. You can really hit the ball with power and without delay. The response times in general are on a par with Euro 2008 so don't expect lightning-fast response times, as in PES (a good thing in my opinion).

Right first off when i hit arena and done some shooting i knew we was on to a winner oh my finesse shots are so improved and shot themself have so much venom. Responsiveness is so much better and collisions etc really add to game i went up for header with Drogba and defender pushed him in back and he went flat to the floor. :DD

Passing is much crisper through ball much more control im playing on World Class and AI dosnt feel super human as they did in Fifa 08.

So far excellent really enjoying it :DD

The ref's are much more card happy in this game. To be honest most of my red cards have been deserved as I was putting in some crunching tackles to test the new collision engine - all in the name of research.:))

You have to time your tackles to perfection in this - a good thing imo. The online hack-merchants will have to learn to defend on their feet.

The shots are harder, they curl and have more variety. The Keepers animations, saves and they way the rush out and clatter you are amazing

The videos looked okay, the shot im a bit worried about, the way he kicked it didnt seem right at all, he turned went for a shot, hopped a bit kept foot up and then went for the shot, and then it looked like it was going wide, only to suddenly like curl in. Maybe its just the video. But the way he shot looked strange.

The foul was cool you got a red for it, didnt look like you touched him much though.

- Game is a lot more fluid, more organic.

- Shooting is better, you can feel more power, also there are powerful low driven shots.

- The collision system is really nice, fighting for the ball is awesoome

- I like how players feel more different now. I was playing around with Ronaldinho in the Arena, after starting a match with Chelsea, Ronaldinho was replaced in the arena by Ballack, and I instantly felt the difference in agility, speed, turning...

- Skill moves are easier to do, as in, I don't get as many mistakes as before (Trying to do a certain skill and the player performing another...)

- Goalkeepers seem improved in some areas, but I've seen a couple of times where in a corner they should've come out to punch the ball and didn't, Ricardo style...

- The referee played some nice advantage rules. Also, right before the end of a first half I killed somebody with Pato and the ref gave the advantage. Soon afterwards the game went to halftime. When the 2nd half began, I noticed Pato had been booked.

- I still haven't played around with custom team tactics...

- Overall, a lot better, compared with the PC demo it's like night and day. THIS IS FOOTBALL!!!

Sound is good, penalty shootout was in front of the Chelsea fans so when I scored mine they cheered really loudly but when Toronto score theirs it was much quieter :)

The amount of quick one touch passing you can do in this game due to the quick responsiveness is tremendous.

Through balls also feel greatly improved.

Some of the quick 1,2 passes are quite sublime to be honest. Absolute love the defensive headers too, if you miss time one, the ball goes flying past you waiting for an attacker to run onto. Simply fantastic so far!!.

So far I love it. My only complaint is manual through balls. They're clearly not powerful enough, unlike in 08 where the ball went much farther when you only pressed the button for a shorter time.
Luckily it's just the opposite for manual passes.

CPU seems a LOT better than FIFA 08. That was a big gripe of mine, and this doesnt seem half as bad. Not seen any stupid circles.

EDIT: For example, Toronto were under pressure and kept lumping it to my players coz they were panicing. At the start they werent doing too bad. Then they caved.

Actually at one point I noticed a little shudder yes. Just noticed once and for a fraction of a second as Toronto cleared a long ball from their defence.

New juggling skills:

The A.I. is doing new things, probably due to custom tactics.

The game was tied near the end and Chelsea were no longer closed in their box, they were pressing really high, and attacking with a lot of men, which caused my quick counter attack goal near the end, they had like, 2 defenders when I got the ball back.

Also, subs seem a lot smarter now, and the 3 changes at 85m don't seem to happen any more...

Don't get the PC demo, its terrible.

You can't even use a controller cause slide and tackle won't even let you apply them to an button. Just says 'empty'

The graphics are horrible and the ball is massive! Looks like a PS2 game

I can't even get a proper game going to see what the games like cause i'm trying to use the keyboard

I like how Chelsea have changed their tactics. They had Drogba up and they were playing it to him to feet or head.

Last 10 they bring Anelka on and he tried to break the offside trap 3 times. Drogba didnt try that once. Class

Because we don't pay for the online service, and because we actually own modified Laystations, where the original bit of hardware enables easy internet lays, a.k.a predatorism. Having the special Patience edition (or P-laystation) though like you and I, means we'll happily wait in silence til 5pm.

We'll still get the demo, it's not a huge difference. Sony prefer to upload each weeks updates in 1 big update rather than spend all day adding bits here and there. That's just how they do things - they're not doing anything different this week as it's the fifa demo. To them it's just another file that needs uploading onto the servers.

My biggest fear is that they would only use the normal speed for online gaming. It's still enjoyable, but I find the lower speed far more realistic.

Anyway, can't wait for the game to come out. I don't know if I'll be able to play FIFA 08 again now.

Even IF Konami could never create a game as realistic as FIFA they could always focus on a more arcady game to get a big audience. A game with more "action" and more "fun" to play. I'm not sure but I think NHL 2k9 which is a competitor to EA Sports NHL 09 does this. They go on about bringing back "fun" to ice hockey and have some over the top scoring type animations and such.

I rather see Konami really try to push FIFA to be even better though, I want them to really push this game towards "full" realism.

I have scored 1 goal and it was a brillaint passing move showing off the quick and clever runs the AI makes

and i am really struggling with the headers, i think its becuase im in 08 mode and hold 1 direction all the time to head and i keep getting under the ball :LOL:

I was a bit hasty on the graphic side of the PC demo. Just put Anti aliasing and antistropic filtering on then zoomed out in the camera and it looks a lot better

The buggy controller system is ruining it all for me though! I haven't played a fifa game in 5 years so im trying to adapt to the game

The Demo settings aren't saved either. I might have to wait for the full game i think

Hi guys, I will hopefully be playing it tonight, don't have a console yet but my brother does and he's going to dload it. Quite excited now judging by the reactions on here!

The reaction to the PES video has been very positive but personally I think if you just ignore all the frilly Champions league stuff the underlying graphics and game engine are woeful. I think that must have been PC version with no AA because it just looks shocking imo.

I realllllly hope FIFA is as good as people are saying here. These last few hours are going to crawl by. I will deliver my verdict late this evening and bare in mind I am approaching it with a completely fresh perspective having not played FIFA 08 or any other FIFA game for years. So I will really be scrutinising it to see if it delivers a realistic game of football.

Fair enough mate. How does Fifa 09 compare with the best PES/WE games from the last generation in your opinion (its obviously shits all over PES2008)?

FIFA 09 is up there with the best of PES. EA have obviously worked very hard over the last few years to get us all back playing the game and to me it feels like all their work has paid off

Yeah I struggle with heading as well, in Fifa08 heading is very easy, just hold down the button and attack the ball, in Euro you have to learn to time your headers but as I never played the game much I never bothered learning, now I have to learn :)

That was one of the most idiotic posts ever.

Konami deserve the backlash they've been getting over the last year or so. They've failed to listen to the community for years and failed to embrace next-gen technology. Even the CL license is not enough to get me interested in PES again.

In terms of online game speed. I imagine it will work the same way as Football Manager. the host of the game selects the match speed. So when you go online, in the server list you will be able to filter by match speed and only play on the speed you prefer. Just like with game modes on FPS', eventually the "best" speed will be settled upon and most of the games online will be using that speed. So I suspect if slow is the best and most realistic any decent player will use this and it will be easy to find matches on slow speed.

That is just an educated guess, though.

Punzz, you realise the PC game is developed by a different team from the console versions? They're completely different games. It's a whole new ball game on the PS3/360.

Spent the last three hours playing the demo, very impressed. The responsiveness is just so much better - I've scored some cracking goals by desperately pressing shoot, expecting the defender to clear (as would happen in FIFA 08) but pressing anyway, only for the striker to whack it into the net.

The AI is vastly improved and can outplay you without cheating (or at least I haven't seen any yet), but the game comes to life when you play human opposition. I've been playing with TT all morning (who is made up you can change the buttons, no more bringing the goalie out by accident :D), and it is phenomenal in multiplayer. I can't wait to get this online.

I think the normal/fast speeds are too fast by the way - slow is a much more realistic speed for me. If you watch a real Premier League game next to FIFA 09 on normal, it doesn't match up IMO. Slow is the way to go.

Could anyone point out what the difference between slow and normal is? Is it everything like passes, player speed, AI only want to attack, constant high press or what? I hear a lot of people saying Euro 08 was fast but I thought I didn't see that because I play manual. But then Placebo who also play manual says he hate it because of the speed... confusing. But then again I thought that maybe Placebo was an exception because he normally only play with less skilled teams, and in Euro they're all very good.

If no one has an answer I'll get to try it tomorrow myself I guess if Xbox Live let us Silver users download it.

I am blown away by this demo.

Things I love.

Ball physics are like nothing ever seen in a video game, so many deflections, and friction off the pitch, and the flight of the ball is superb.

Long pinging 60 yard passes are fantastic and can actually be pulled off, So a long ball tactic will work if needed.

Little subtle animations, for instance running down the wing your player will look up before crossing the ball as he is running.

The speed of the game and the responsiveness is perfect I find, I will play about with different speeds later.

Players "Feel" different this time around.

No cut scene before throw ins it happens straight away.

Power bar passing is much improved over Euro.

The goal nets react brilliantly, very very close to real life.

Players actually have untucked shirts. :DD

The players are slimmer and more authentic looking.

They shouldn't be 2 completely different games though. Why can't they be as good as or better than the console versions? Does the Xbox 360 demo save your settings? Having to use they keyboard to play too cause sliding and through ball buttons aren't detected in the PAD menu

I'm getting used to the game and starting to enjoy it on the PC anyway. Haven't played a fifa game since Fifa 2003 on the PC so it was very hard at the start to get used to.

How do i change the difficulty on the pc demo? anyone know

Is it more dynamic? I always thought that good though FIFA 08 was, it often represented a wire frame version of football without the intricate bits in between the lines - down to AI not running in enough different directions - has this been improved on so that you can play closer to barcelona/arsenal/russia (i believe they belong in this category!) style which PES 5(no fanboy!) does so well at its best.

Teams have seperate playing styles with settings for the defensive line, pressure, width, directness of passing etc. so they play like their real-life counterparts would.

The AI is a lot more intelligent now, they will make much more intelligent runs and as Coopz said they will now make realistic substitutions (before they would swap defenders for strikers on occasion). They also push everyone forward if it's 0-0 with 20 minutes to go - they even change strategies, playing a much more direct style of football to get a goal.

Players feel a bit more individual now as well, players like Ronaldinho and Schneider feel like they literally have the ball glued to their foot, you can't lose the ball, whereas strong defenders really send strikers flying with their barges.

Shouldn't be, but they are. The PC version is based on the PS2 engine because they can't bet on every FIFA player having spectacular PCs. The PS3/360 version is designed specifically for those consoles.

I downloaded the demo as soon as I woke up this morning which made me a little late for work. It was well worth it. I only got the play one game so I can't comment too much on it. But put it this way, I can't wait to get home to play some more. Can you change the difficulty?

i echo all the positive sentiments btw. sick demo. the player faces and bodies have improved 100000 fold. so much so it looks like a different game franchise.

navigating menus is easier too btw. pressing left or right skips half a page so you dont have to spend time scrolling tediously like before (yeh i know thats in PES but its a nice addition).

i only say that cause twice now i have barraged down the middle of the park running by people like in euro... im not sure of the difficulty but when the demo aske dme my expereince level i picked the hardest one. however i agree about the AI of the pc, seems much improved, so thats good for the MM lovers, i.e. placebo

Very frustrated with SONY - why do they always struggle with psn. pessimistic ( or realistic?) but I can see the demo not coming at all on PSN today.

On a more positive not - I know ppl are mainly against the top speed setting but we should def take a moment to commend EA on actually giving the consumer the option to choose their game speed. Coming from a pro background I predict this is the setting that will appeal to me most. I think its fantastic that EA have put this much effort in to create the ultimate experience for each individual player - I will buy fifa 09 for the effort they have put in. They fully deserve the critical acclaim they have received (and Im sure will continue to receive) in the future.

Dont want to start a war hear but if someone who has both consoles and has played EA foty games on both could help me - which console do you prefer playing the game on? I have a ps3 but my bro has both and he says the xbox games have a better "look" about them. Anyone else agree?

If Gomito or anyone has a chance to test this (i'm at work). Choose the 3 different skill levels one game after another and see how the AI plays. That should give us an idea if that skill level means AI level or not.

Yes, I've used it, but felt weird so went back to analog.

The difficulty is configured depending on your gaming experience, amateur, semi pro and pro are all in the demo.

Can't wait to get home. I actually got up at 6am(eastern US time) to download the Demo. It downloaded very quick. Didn't get a chance to play it though. Had to take a bath, wake the kids up for school, etc..

My question though is the following:

I know someone on here said that the net "Bulges" nicely, but is it the same animations as on the vids we have seen? In other words, we all saw that EA fixed the nets considerably, does this apply to the demo?
