Playing against the AI is shite, fact
Playing against humans is awesome, fact
agree. its why i dont give a fuck about manager mode or this be a captian shit that i have NEVER tried.
i would be happy if fifa09 was online only ;)) maybe then they will focus on working on key features such as proper online league setups with proper points structure ie 3 points for a win etc, proper online season mode where you can transfer between other players in the same league(doable, just look in forza2 with its auction house feature enabling people to buy and sell cars amongs eachother) And a online Tournament mode with home/away legs, quater, semi's and finals stages of a actual tournament.

Yes everyone says that, but I've been playing football games against the AI for 23 years, really not gonna change my opinion now as to what I do and don't enjoy ;)

i agree with ronaldo10, but placebo mate, you have a one dimiensional point of view, you always play against the AI. The best AI to play against is human, IMO. The individuality in PES came out more to me, in this mode. I knew i could be fine playing with a team like olympicaos because i had rivaldo in the squad, and he could turn a game on its head. But in fifa, i dont think it matters if you have eboue or zidane...
LOL that makes absolutely no sense to me, the players should play the same whether human v AI or human v human. But anyways, I shall probably play some Fifa09 online so we'll see ;)

I will try it, just don't anticipate anything changing in my opinion, I prefer manager mode, I like to play out the role of the manager of the club I support playing the players we have in our team in the league/cups and seeing what we can do with them :)

I gathered that they don't from what sweetkilla said but I might be wrong. He said it was a bit poor on the CPU's part that their tactics were all default with no individual player instructions that they would have in real life - Giggs swapping wings for example, or Keane dropping back and playing as a support striker, or WBs moving to play as DMs when the DMs move forwards.

Agreed, same applies to me (except the 23 years thing). I want to be able to play Serie A, as realistic as possible. I know that I'll never get a chance to play someone using Lecce when I'm Milan online, so the only way is by playing the AI and to make a real season. AI should be priority for a football game, then you can focus on the online features. There are still many people that play offline or prefer playing a league etc. Also its less stressful, in the sense that you don't have to go through the hassle of finding people or making sure you dont disconnect or lag etc, I just want to play a game with teams of my choice.
By the way, I value online a lot too, but I think in terms of importance, single player should be priority.

Again going from what sweetkilla said, the AI players still run in circles to prevent you from getting the ball, so it doesn't sound very promising on that front. All the effort this year has gone into the gameplay rather than manager mode or AI etc.

as I said before good teams! I would hate it if the team I supported was in the demo its like your playing the game before release.. you lose a little bit of excitement! I really feel they should stick to international teams like PES does for demo's

ofcouse u are not alone Placebo,
many people like to be the manager of they favorit team,
winning cups, leags, buying-selling players etc...
it's great fun, and yes it is an importand mode for any football fan, plus it give the game a great length of playing also.
but i still think ea can do alot better to improve the MM mode even further, such to go more in depth, like LMA manager, plus fix al & the player status, so when u buy a player, u should be able to see u have made a differenc in your team, deepending on what type of player u where looking for, to improve your team,
but again that's another long story if we go in details.
( by the way, we are not alout talking about ML, coz konami still think is perfect the way it is:CW:)
about online its just a bonus,
but this year it will be funtastic, especially now we can play

Until about a year ago, I would have agreed.
I've played off-line for the past 10 years or so (and in years gone by in the days of Sensi/KO2, etc) but grew ever more frustrated because 1) Konami never developed their ML properly 2) their AI became increasingly a cpu cheat-fest.
I bought FIFA08, hopeful that I'd finally have a proper league structure to play in, starting out in English League 2 and working my way up throught the leagues. This is what I'd always wanted. However, once I started playing a few matches against their AI, my excitement soon changed to frustration - their AI is tripe.
Problem is, having a game which plays freely to allow the player to move the ball around how he likes, makes programming an AI model to compete with this just too damn hard without resorting to a bunch of cpu cheats, which is all I see in FIFA08.
I'm sick and tired of crappy football AI and no matter how much effort they put into it, it's still decades away from being genuinely good, fair fun to play against. If it's got cpu cheats, I'm not interested.
I can totally relate to those who still want more than anything to play privately offline and get caught up in a football world with all he teams and competitions. But since FIFA08 and 5v5, I'm totally converted to on-line. There's still part of me wants to play proper leagues offline against the cpu, but then I remember about the cpu cheats.
So, I'm all for developing modes which involve as little cpu interference as possible. Unfortunately, even 5v5 has stupid momentum swings which interfere with the action, but at least there's far more genuine human input than dubious cpu input.
Be-a-pro mode offline could be great, though.

can someone tell me why ea insists on the monkey/zombie look?
I guess that's mainly because of 2 points:
1- They choosed to actually modelate faces in 3D. Thay're not using a photograph as a texture like Pes does. It really makes things really hard to shine, and most of us will agree that PES faces, even if are textures put into a more simple polygon face, really do the work. Maybe the trend of fully modelating in 3D will give them the edge in some years, when they have brought to perfection the process, and thus they would add more "emotions" easily. Anywaym I don't give a dam because most of the time I play in the "wide" camera.
2- Mainly they have invested a lot in gameplay, animation and technology in the last 4 years, and that's the reason why I prefer the gameplay with monkeys to the monkey-animations and gameplay of pes.

Yep indeed there's lots they can do to improve manager mode, I expect big improvements in Fifa10, should be some in 09 but sadly we have to wait, hopefully the rest of the gameplay improvements will make up for it :)

It does seem ridiculous that a game can be marked down because it is too realistic. PES was always applauded for it's realism back when it was good.

These people are paid to just write pages about any game that is chosen for them to review - they aren't writing these things out of their passion for football (which they obviously don't have), they are just writing it up for a living.
However, if someone here was to write a review it would be out of their own will and their comments would reflect their passion for football - take CB's in-depth review of FM Live for example.
I would take any review from a major mag/site with a pinch of salt nowadays, some games get overrated (PES, GTA etc) while others get underrated (FIFA, Top Spin 3 etc.).

3 September 08, 14:07
One thing I hope is fixed in 09 is when playing Euro 08 CYC, if you pass a forward with a through ball he will always first fake a shot before trying to score. It's a really weird bug and I'm not making this up, since Euro 08 was releases CYC is the only mode I have played. And I've played it a lot. Pretty annoying bug because often the keeper than get close enough to take the ball. If you pass a normal pass the forward wont make a fake shot. Really weird.

What's the betting Fifa09 get's all round 8/10's, PES2009 gets all round 9/10's?
I'll take that bet.
The reviewers I see reviewing games are gamers who have played PES for years and never given FIFA more than five minutes. The one good review I saw (this month's OPM FIFA 09 review) still had a blotch on the side of it with a PES nut saying "FIFA is good but PES is still better" without really going into depth about why; you get the idea that his feelings are "PES is simpler, I've played it since day one, and FIFA is for poofs who only want to see a photo-realistic Beckham".
It's very much an old breed of gamer; so many of them aren't open to new things.

Maybe, maybe not. But gaming magazines are usually in bed with alot of these gaming co....I'd rather see score by actual gamers along with their reviews of what is good or bad in the game. I would like to see review of both FIFA and PES on this site (with side-by-side comparisons of strengths and weakness).

Maybe the reviewer got that "Raiders of the lost ark" moment where FIFA09 just exposed him to so much divine beauty that his face was melted right off, and hence he felt it was a bit too good?

So we have two reviews for FIFA 09 currently:
OPM: 90/100
Xbox World: 81/100

You think they moaned about it being too realistic because it now means they can't sprint down the wings unchallenged and score a double somersault overhead kick in every game now? (Not that Fifa does that these days)
They now have to actually play the game like the real football that were all fans of instead of playing a VIDEO GAME that represents football.
Maybe they're just out of ideas? They can't call Fifa arcadey as that's now PES's role. So they'll have to pick on the realism as that's something the Fifa team have strived towards this year and it's the only insult they can throw at it that won't come back at them like a boomerang and also attack PES when they review that game.
Seems they'd much prefer to kick a ball and hear the noise of a cow being slapped across the arse with a shovel than the realistic tension of slow build up play, players battling for the ball with Defoe being pushed over by the gigantic brick shit house defender you've just signed from Germany on a loan as you couldn't afford to buy him. The kind of realistic action that draws you in and makes you forget you've been playing for 5 hours, the food in the oven is now burnt, the kitchen is on fire and your wife has left you... but you don't care because Martin Tyler has just told you that Shaun Wright Phillips is a Little Bundle of Energy and you're now determined to break his legs to shut Tyler up.
Then when you finally break through the defence, you square the ball and you're on the edge of your seat ....
You shoot....
...and it hits the post and the full time whistle goes!
And yet you're still happy with the 0 - 0 draw against Blackburn as it means you're now above Aston Villa in the league.
Or you tackle a giant with two dwarfs by just holding down square and X... shoot, hear the noise of that cow now being cracked over the back with a bag of sand ... and as its the final seconds of the game you know for a fact it's going to hit the bar... as it always hits the bar in the final few minutes. The whistle goes and you draw 0-0 and now you're 4th in the master league second division behind Yuventees, West London, and Namchelster Reds.
Who needs realism!

Nice one
I get why they say its too realistic now, its because they says the ball gets bogged down in midfield making "dull matches"
but like i said before thats football, you dont have 3-3 thrillers every game. Just like in real life most of the time its a midfield battle and its won by the odd goal so its sounds to me like Fifa has it bang on :))

I would have believed that review (bear in mind Dr Force's sig, "make it realistic but don't forget the fun", so it's not surprising that someone won't like the game if it leads to a lot of 0-0 midfield battles)...
The only thing that makes me think they've been bribed is five people, the original reviewer and the four on the last page, all saying the exact same thing. "It's not changed from FIFA 08" - how come every other review says it's a lot better, including the official PlayStation magazine that gave FIFA 08 6/10 last year, but FIFA 09 9/10 this year?
Either they've been bribed or their editor is a diehard PES fan who won't tolerate anything less than a good review for PES and a bad review for FIFA, IMO.

The world is full to the brim with political bullshit as it is, we dont need it taking over the world of our hobby.
I just could not beleive what I was reading, it was like something out of a fascist magazine.
You can see 09 is hugely different to 08 and definately superior to Euro, to read that was like listening to my primary school teacher telling me if i dont eat my greens then I'll never grow up to be like my Dad.
Totally insulting and a complete embarrassment to any form of journalism.
Stay clear of that rag.
Jamezinho
3 September 08, 23:14
I think your outburst was warranted, Dr Force. There was a definite pro-pes agenda in that review and they made no attempt to hide it. I don't like being told that too much realism is a negative thing, and that gritty midfield battles do not reflect real football.
I'm hoping this review is just a one off and we see some more rational journalism in future. But as I said a few pages back, I fully expect Fifa09 to get 8's and PES2009 to get 9's across the board. That seems to be the way the gaming media wants it to be, regardless of the quality of the two titles.

The "Its the same as FIFA or Euro" was the biggest load of BS i could have heard from them, The gap between 08 to 09 is simply huge, the main thing for me was just how polished the game felt, You now sometimes when you play a game and think "Well if they had another month or 2 they could really have made this even better" but when I played a 80% build it felt as if it was already a finished product, The amount of minor touches they have added has to be in the 1000 mark im sure.

how embarrassing for a professional magazine. oh well, i don't really care about sales or what anyone else thinks of the game other than unpaid, real gamers. i'm more concerned about the new features and what i personally think of the game.

Longest week ever?
Seriously, every day I wake up and I think "another day to get through without playing FIFA 09, what am I going to play today"...

new video
nice video at least for the gameplay parts. also anybody knows if addidas live season works for manager mode because in fifa 08 when i played manager mode in the spanish league david villa would always be the top scorer even tho he did not have a great season.

That new video from Jeux looks like SHIT!!
lol, im just messing, it looks absolutely brilliant! :LIE:
When they switched to the Milan game, i seriously thought i was watching a live game.. I had to rewind it just to check..
That review from xbox world is just plain bull as everyones said. No i haven't played the game, gotta wait another week for that :(( but you can clearly see how much better it is than 08.. I thought Euro 08 was a big step up from Fifa 08 but all the bugs and glitches really pissed me off along with the super human keepers but Fifa 09 looks to be another huge step forward.. Looks like Konami will be fooked again for another year.. Disappointing but who cares when the beautiful game looks this damn good!

I think I remember reading that the adidas Live Season will not affect the Manager Mode :((.

Can anyone confirm if we can change a teams home stadium for manager mode. Estadio Las Artes put me so off Manager mode in Fifa 08, due to the fact that 80% of the games were played their! P.S the Drogba goal at the end would never go in on Fifa 08, I love the improvements.

Is it me or is the lighting of the night match between Milan and Juve looking really sexy?
That was a night match?! I thought it was a dusk one. Good news if it is then as I hardly saw any dark patches.

Boys, I've got bad news for you, the Demo will be out a day too late, we won't be able to play it, here is why: CLICK (http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/features/article1630897.ece)

But CERN, which includes several UK scientists, say their work is vital to unlock the secrets of matter that forms everything known in the universe.
Vital? For who? You cocks who sit in offices with millions of pounds worth of grant money to work out if you can grow an ear on the arse of a rat. It's vital for them to work out but for the rest of us that might die... we don't give a monkeys. Yet for some reason our opinions mean jack shit compared to theirs.
A CERN spokesman said: “It will not be producing anything that does not already happen routinely in nature.”
Well fucking do your experiments there then.

Yes but can you guarantee that?? I'd hate for it not to arrive and then I am hunting around on my day off to find a copy:((
Not sure and I have never ordered anything from ShopTo
Order from ShopTo, if it doesn't arrive by Friday morning, you can return the game still sealed and get your money back.
I forgot ShopTo usually get me the game on the Thursday, I'll keep my ShopTo pre-order on there and see how quick they get it to me, I have faith though :))
I booked the Friday off yesterday, now I think about it I might book the Thursday off too.

Is time running out on a possible announcement regarding online league like they have announced for NBA and NHL?
The NHL league announcement came back in July(at least 1,5 months before release)
Im kind of scared that 10v10 is gonna be one of historys most chaotic game modes, if they dont add some kind of league or rank to it.

Amazing how good the Chelski vs Arsenal look even if it's played by a retard and with bad AI on Semi-pro.
I like how Czech manages to get up pretty quick to take the second shot. I think it's just a little bit to slow yet but it's a huge improvement from 08 and Euro.
AI looks bad but it's on Semi so that explains it. Really wish they played on World Class which usually is the most realistic AI without to much cheating as the highest level has.
Still can't believe they actually listened to us and made the nets better. Well done EA, well done.

Other than adding a disclaimer people can't steal them and converting to wmv there wasn't much editing required ;)
Although the Arsenal v Chelsea one has to be split as youtube only allows 10 min videos and it's 59 seconds too long :(

Watched to new videos with sound on for the first time. I noticed the commentators still is pretty faulty. When Czech saves they say it's a corner kick. Doesn't really bother me though because I always turn commentators off.
The sound is pretty good otherwise, nice atmosphere with the chants and all.

I never use commentary myself. I just mute them and put on some nice metal when playing PES5. Also, in FIFA08 the swedish commentators were a pair of Swedes that does commentary on CL matches and such. They did pretty good for a first time, but I still can't stand them.

hey guys was thinking about the be a pro four seasons and was thinking that it might be long enough cos you won't be simming any matches so you'll be playing pre season friendlies the actual league your in champions league any domestic compettition and internationals. i think you'll probably find that one season alone will take forever to finish

I shall wait to see the end product, if am right online matches will annoying as ever ppl will just keep exploiting the shooting system, i hate scoring the same near post goal but if my opponent is using it, why shouldn't i?
