View Full Version : Project Gotham 3 - Official Thread
I may be jumping the gun a touch here as its not due out til the launch of the 360 but here is what I found this morning.
Project Gotham Racing developer Bizarre Creations has let slip a few more details on Gotham TV, a Live-orientated feature planned for PGR 3 on Xbox 360 that the studio first dished info on at E3.
Purposefully designed to enhance the PGR 3 community experience, Gotham TV features six channels and will, for example, allow you to spectate on races, provide news, inform you of competitor prowess and allow you to dip into archives containing best racing moments ripe for viewing.
You'll remember one of the key features Microsoft talked about at their E3 press conference was the ability to host massive gaming tournaments which would be watched by thousands? Well Gotham TV could well be the realisation of those dreams.
News comes via a news ticker - which is on-screen when you're in a race - that keeps you up to date on current events in PGR 3 on Live and provides more personal info such as what your mates are doing in the game. The ticker additionally alerts you if another player beats one of your top scores, and cleverly this race is archived so you can actually go and watch said player's race.
Loosely connected to news is Today's Highlights. Every day, the best PGR 3 racing moments will be shuffled into this channel, where you can, um, watch the day's highlights. All these highlights will be archived in a PGR 3 Hall of Fame too, a mine of cool bits that will be searchable by event, driver and city and apparently even by route - handy for getting tips on the best way to dominate a track.
If you're looking for really hot racing tips, then the Gotham Heroes Channel is a must. This channel will show real-time races between the best racers, those who have racked up enough kudos points to achieve hero status. You'll be notified you're eligible for hero racing prior to the start of a burn up, and at this stage you can send out invitations to your friends to come and watch you trash the competition. Hopefully.
Connected to the Gotham Heroes Channel is Gotham Heroes Archive, where best moments from races will be stored and can be accessed at your leisure.
Tune into PGR 3's Friends Channel and, as the name suggests, you'll be able to watch your buddies racing live. A number of spectator options will be available and you can observe the race from the grandstand, or from within the cars themselves with the possibility of sneaking into the passenger seat of a friend's car to watch the action.
And thanks to View Replays, you'll be able to save your own masterful racing performances online and then dip back into what's been stored whenever you feel the need to relive personal moments of glory - probably just after you been left eating dust by better players.
A Live treat in store then for Project Gotham 3 on Xbox 360. Bizarre Creations' sequel is expected to launch alongside Microsoft's next-gen console in November.
Interesting
It's hardly going to show you 'T-Boning' another car into another corner now is it Wrighty ;)
It's hardly going to show you 'T-Boning' another car into another corner now is it Wrighty ;)
Can we not get through one day without someone slagging off my driving skill, I know you`re jealous ;)
That all sounds pants tbh, who wants to watch people playing PGR on their telly if they can play themselves? Also don't like this ticker nonsense, on a fecking hot lap and the bugger pops up with "YER MATE's ONLINE" just as you approach a crucial turn or something.
The game will no doubt rock but that's all guff.

They have started doing weekly "Studio Updates" over at BizarreOnline.net so hopefully we can start getting some decent info.
Here is the first....
Well, I've been tasked with writing the first "studio update" for Bizarre Creations. Chances are I'll be doing more of them in the future as well - so gather round, pull up a beanbag, and take in some good gaming news...
Considering I'm brand new here myself, I thought it would be good to give a little intro to my time here at Bizarre. As it stands, I'm the one and only BC web developer, brought in the rescue the old site, implement BizarreOnline.net, and do a few other internal things. Before this, I was a Computer Science student in Brighton, and spent most of my days sitting around playing PGR2! In fact, I was getting pretty good (or so I thought), until I came up here and was thrashed by an artist who hadn't played the game in 6 months. Doh!
After a few weeks of working here, it's become pretty obvious that the people here are special. It's not just by luck that every BC game so far has been great - these guys are really good and certainly know their stuff! You can tell everybody in the office is really enjoying working on a new platform (despite the deadlines), and really pushing themselves to levels which haven't been reached before.
Allow me to let you into a little secret: We've got a PGR3 internal diary here at Bizarre, where everybody drops examples of their week's work in every Friday. It's a great way for slackers like me to see all of the hard work that the real dev's do each week! Some of the screen grabs in there are truly fantastic; I can't believe the level of detail that goes into something as small as a track surface. In fact, take a look at this:
http://www.bizarreonline.net/news/images/road.jpg
That's a real screenshot, taken on real 360 hardware. Obviously I've chopped it up to show you just the track surface; but no other Photoshop jiggery-pokery has taken place. I've been told that this is actually a combination of four different layers. Read that again. Four layers. Every single inch of track in PGR3 has to be drawn four times to get the required level of detail. Crazy!
We've got diffuse textures, specular maps, bump maps, and more textures (at different scaling) to ensure that you never see a repeated bit of tarmac. Every inch of every track will look unique, which is no small feat considering we're building huge areas of cities. The skid marks themselves are actually made by the game in real-time, so that when the wheels lock or experience enough friction you'll see rubber blended onto the tarmac. Even if you don't understand all of this technical stuff, seeing it all in action is really great.
Anyway, I'll stop gushing now! The good news is that we're hoping to get started on the next level of effects soon, so expect some more screenshots to come out in the next few weeks. In fact, I'm excited myself!
Check back in a week, when I'll post the next Studio Update.
Should be interesting to follow the progress, but if they are forgoeing 60fps so they can have real-time skidmarks I'll be disappointed. I can make my own real-time skidmarks.

Just thought I would post this....
We are very proud to release three new high-definition PGR3 screen grabs, taken from the in-game video shown recently on British TV.
Our PGR3 announcement video, first shown on the MTV show, was aired this week on the British cable channel MotorsTV. The following screen grabs (taken from the video) are in-game, taken from real hardware. However, be aware that due to the time required to prepare in advance for E3, these images are all taken from an older build of the game.
Remember, these are not pre-rendered like the previously released movie clip. This is 100% running on real Xbox 360 hardware.
Things to look out for:
High-definition - these stills are exactly how the game will appear on your HDTV.
New York City - NYC returns to the Gotham franchise like never before. Take a close look at the buildings to see the detail.
Realistic camera - simulating real-life effects like depth of field and motion blur for increased realism.
Advanced lighting effects - new reflections on car bodies, shadows on the tarmac, and shiny windscreen glare from the sun.
Crowd - Thousands of motion-captured, fully 3d spectators line the streets, and react to your racing.
New cars - Featured here are the McLaren F1 LM, the Ferrari 360CS, and the TVR Sagaris.

2 more screens plus some more info from OXM.
- 80 cars, all able to go at least to 170 mph
- 6 weeks to create one car, 40.000 polys for the interior alone
- Car data acquired from real live vehicules as much as possible
- Ability to grab your own screenshots from whatever angle you want
- Race creator to edit your own track in the city you chose. Seems quite easy to use.
- 5 cities (New York, Tokyo, and 3 to be unveiled later)
- 3d spectators, all unique looking and reacting to the race. (i.e they scatter when you crash into a barrier near them)
- sound was recorded from every "noisy" point in the car, exhaust, engine, induction system...
- Licensed soundtrack
- No tuning (YAY !)
- 12 players on Xbox Live
- Damage modeling, with some impact on performance
- Force Feedback wheel is planned for near launch time
- A working dashboard and interior.
- Good stuff right out the gate. Expect many of the cars and tracks after a short while of playing, but depth of options with keep you digging.
- Game mode includes Red vs. Blue.
- Earn Kudos that can turn into Badges of Honor.
- One car from Italy that only three real-life versions exist and pumps out 10,000 RPMs.
- No tuning but it does say 'cool customization'.
Couple of shots...

Time for a new in game shot from PGR3.
From Bizarreonline.net
"As always, this screenshot is in-game and running on 360 hardware. It isn't a mock-up or such like... Pay particular attention to the reflections of the bridge on the car's paintwork and windows; this is something we're especially proud of. In fact, we're still working on improving the overall appearance of the car materials and their interaction with the scene at the moment. Charlie (a programmer at Bizarre) has taken some incredible test screenshots which I will drop into a future Studio Update."

I am definitely going to 'wait and see' with this one. There was an article on IGN saying they saw a preview build of the actual game being played and it wasn't pretty. They did mention that it was supposedly running on a dev kit at only 60% of final 360 power but like I said I'll wait and see - if that HD clip posted a few weeks ago looks so lush why are IGN saying they've played the thing more recently and it's far from impressive?

22 August 05, 21:35
Going on previous PGR games, I really can't imagine this game looking ugly. They've always been some of the best looking games on their consoles (Dreamcast and XBox I think in total?), and I expect PGR3 to be no different
ClassicD
22 August 05, 21:41
It'll look the biz no doubt I just wonder how fast it'll run as the article said they were hoping to get it running at 60fps in the end. The possibility of it running lower than 60 is a little baffling considering it's a next-gen machine, but that's probably a personal thing for me - I think GT4 looked 10 times better than Forza just becuse of the framerate.
FlawlessCowboy
22 August 05, 21:45
Ah I see what you mean. Well it looked very, very nice in the video, and I imagine they want to make it look pretty jaw-dropping so I think to get it running at 60fps is quite a high priority (hopefully)!

This is taken straight from Bizarreonline.net. The reply to this question is from a BC Developer.
If the game is running much faster in their office right now why are they showing such an old build? Is it just that they don't want to reveal more then the older builds already had or that the old builds only run on old hardware and they couldn't spare any newer debug kits for the show.
And the reason why that build was shown was twofold - firstly, it was one of the few spare kits we have (they're like gold dust here!) and secondly, because the newer build, even though it's running fast and looking better than the older builds, is only just up and running on the new kits. This means it's pretty unstable, with plenty of crashes, strange bugs and other issues to fix.
For presentation purposes, it was safer for us to show a slower build that was more stable than a newer one on the new kits that might crash due to some unforseen problem with the porting process. We're at that horrible time in development where everything is being pulled together, meaning that there's a lot of instability around - fixing one thing seems to just break another!
But the nearer we get to completion, the better it gets... http://www.bizarreonline.net/forum/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Also here are the different race types, much more variation that PGR2. These are just the race types, this doesn't include the challenges like the Cone challenges, Time vs Kudos etc etc.

Captial Thrill I think from Washington, a couple from Chicago, they can keep Florence, Barcelona, Stockholm, and the other two Asian cities, Yokohama and I cant remember where else. Sydney weren't bad and the Paris Download was a great adition with some classic courses.

And incase you didn't know, it doesn't look like PGR3 will be a launch game. I imagine it will be launched just before Christmas so hopefully not to long a wait.

That would just be a pure sly video then, I aint going to watch it. I know about the track editor but I worry about the time it'll take to download such a things, I mean TimeSplitters, and soon to be released Far Cry have map editors, but on TS the maps seemed to take an age to DL and also you didnt know which of your friends had that map if anyone at all!!!!!
Also I think it will be hard to beat KGB Corner simply due to the width of the track at times on it, I mean the start finish straight up to that first corner was mental, but a great laugh, then of course the 'T-BONE' corner coming down to the river. Basil's of course had the pair of arches that could always be taken wrong while airborne, before the little chicane that could be straight lined, or clipped and end up facing the wrong way... ;) all in prob my two favourite tracks on PGR2.

That is a miss quote in that article. They will make the "Launch Window" which means up to a 3 month period after the launch of the console (I think that is how MS classify a launch title). I would have thought, like Kameo, that if PGR3 was a day 1 launch game it would have been announced by now. In the most recent vid posted above Gareth refuses to give a date and will only say that they are not delayed and they will ship in the launch window.
I would imagine we will see it before Christmas, I sure hope so.

The old 'Launch Window' rather than Launch titles has been a crafty bugger of a thing, hence why games which are 90 days after Launch can at the moment be included in any list of games that companies are floating about at the minute. I'll be gutted if PGR aint a Launch title and it may just make me hold off getting a 360, but I shall see, cause I did really want to get the 360 on Launch day, then be on PGR that night, alas it may not work out like that........

The graphics certainly look nice, but even though it's only a video and im not actually playing it, you can still tell that the physics look pretty average, at best!

It's an arcade racer, it's not designed to have GT-esque physics and never pretends to. Have to say my desire to play this game just increased 10 fold, that looks absolutely stunning and it's on a fecking shakey cam in a dark setting, imagine what it'll be like to play!
It makes the pain of it not making launch all the more acute :).

GT physics are nothing to write home about though, and these arent even as good as that :(
Just made me think that the new consoles are really just gonna be an improvement in graphics, i thought these new consoles were gonna be able to do amazing things, just seems like the same game to me though.
It's also made me think twice about spending £300+ to simply see improved graphics :(

PGR physics are great. Like Classic said it isn't trying to be a super realistic racer. However the cars have great weight and they are all fun to drive. I would take the driving model of PGR over GT any day of the week.

To be honest both games dont have great physics, i would prefer to play a PC sim anyday. But seeing the video, it just looks like the same game but improved graphics, i really thought it would feel more realistic, as well as look more realistic.
I know they arent trying to be as realistic as possible, but i would rather play a game which feels "right" and is a hard challenge, than play a 10year old game with the best graphics i've ever seen. I know this is completly exagerated, but imagine if they bought out a new sonic game, and it was the same game as the originals (side scrolling) but looked like the best game ever in terms of graphics. I wouldnt exactly be tempted to spend over £300 on it.
I guess i was just expecting more from the new consoles

Why not?? 99% of people on this site do that with the Winning Eleven series every year. There are minor tweaks here and there but that is all. Its the same with this, the handling in the devs mind, and most consumers, is spot on for the type of game it was trying to be however it will have been tweaked above PGR2. The graphics and features have improved as well as the online aspect. That to me warrants a purchase because I enjoy the game. I imagine GT5 will have very realistic handling next gen as that is their selling point.
If konami released WE10 for the 360/PS3 which was identical to WE9 but prettier - you would buy it straight away.

Definitely, it's an evolution of a series. SS, it's not possible for you to know how PGR3 plays, you're only able to go by the videos seen. The game was always going to be based along the same lines as MSR, PGR and PGR2, so expecting a more realistic driving model is illogical in the first place. Don't get me wrong, I don't think I would be happy with an identical game except better graphics, but you can already see the framerate looks a bit better than PGR2 and that IMO contributes to gameplay.
Bizarre Creations made one of the best racing games I'm ever played, F1'97 for PSOne. They've since gone on to make more great racing games and I'm sure this'll be no different.
Chris, I've decided to drag the PC into the toilet and sit on the pan, easier than washing all those breeks.

No i wouldnt buy it if it was identical but improved graphics, it's like people that owned a normal PS2, then trade it in to get a slim one and pay like an extra £30 or whatever it is. IT'S THE SAME THING ffs!
New versions of a game on the same format arent gonna have much difference, but the new consoles which are 100000 of times better, aparently, you would expect more than a cosmetical upgrade.
If all the games on the 360 are just updates of other games, and all play the same as the originals then what would be the point in buying them?
I was just expecting something new and original. Its a new console with lots more power, yet i bet when i play the game it feels the same. I dont think its worth spending all that money to look at something slightly prettier, i want to feel the difference as well as see it

How do you know you won't feel the difference? You've seen a few videos, why not wait until you've played the thing and then be able to see how it feels? Here's an example. MGS2 followed the same style as the original but not only looked better, it played better, who's to say PGR won't do the same? Was PGR just MSR with nicer graphics?
Sequels are a fact of life with popular, and sometimes not so popular series'. If you expected anything other than an arcade racer from PGR3, then you were wrong to do so in the first place. The fans of the series love it because of the way it plays, they're not going to abandon that style for the sake of it.

"In an effort to clear up the confusion, GameSpot asked David Reid, director of platform marketing for Xbox, what the exact 360 launch lineup is. He said that "there will be 15 to 20 Xbox 360 titles available on launch day" with around another half-dozen making it to market by the end of the year. For the moment, though, he would only confirm eight titles as being available the same day and date as the 360: Project Gotham Racing 3, Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero, Madden NFL 06, NBA Live 06, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06, Need for Speed Most Wanted, and FIFA 06: Road to FIFA World Cup."

Gamespot article.
AMSTERDAM-- Undoubtedly one of the most popular games at Microsoft's X05 event in Amsterdam is Project Gotham Racing 3. Being shown in playable form for the first time, Bizarre Creations' racer looks even more impressive now than it did in Tokyo a couple of weeks back. And according to the Bizarre Creations representatives present at the event, the demo version on show is at least two weeks behind those currently being tested at their offices.
The version of Project Gotham Racing 3 that we were able to get our hands on featured courses from the three of the game's cities--namely London, Tokyo, and New York. We were able to race around these impressively accurate city recreations in cars from five different speed classes, and we had an opportunity to compete against both CPU-controlled opponents and other X05 attendees.
The first thing we did was jump into one of Project Gotham Racing 3's many Ferrari models and race against a field of CPU opponents on the sun-drenched streets of London. Certain areas of the city were instantly recognizable to us, despite the fact that all of the streets were lined with barriers, route markers, and crowds of cheering race fans. The gameplay, on the other hand, felt quite different from Project Gotham Racing 2, but we're pleased to report that we were in no way disappointed.
The first thing we noticed about Project Gotham Racing 3 (besides the excellent car damage models--ahem) was that the handling is far less forgiving than that in the previous game. We wouldn't necessarily describe the vehicle handling in Project Gotham Racing 3 as super-realistic, but you certainly won't be able to slide around corners quite as easily this time around. You'll also need to brake well ahead of sharp turns.
It's fitting, then, that unlike its predecessor, Project Gotham Racing 3 will reward you for skillful rather than showy driving. You'll still be able to earn the series' trademark kudos points for sliding and skidding, but larger bonuses will be available for fast cornering, clean sections, and for sticking to the correct racing line. The thinking behind this change is that the game should reward you for good driving, rather than for tricks that aren't necessary to win races. Bizarre Creations is also well aware of the fact that Project Gotham Racing 2 players would frequently take advantage of that game's kudos system by performing endless donuts in an attempt to improve their online rankings. That won't be possible in Project Gotham Racing 3, and online ranking points will also vary according to which of the game's skill levels you're playing on.
Another interesting change that's been made to the kudos system for Project Gotham Racing 3 is that single maneuvers such as skids and corner-taking are divided up into sections now. So the points you're awarded for a well-taken corner, for example, will be based on your entry into the corner, your speed around the corner, and your exit from the corner. You'll also be given immediate feedback as to how well you did via a series of comments, such as "brisk," "gutsy," "stunning," "breakneck," or "screaming."
The multiplayer race on the streets of New York that marked the end of our time with Project Gotham Racing 3 was a hotly contested affair between four X05 attendees, including a representative of Bizarre Creations. All four of us chose to drive different vehicles from the same class, and although their characteristics were very different, they seemed to be quite evenly matched for the most part. Our open-wheel racer, for example, was extremely fast off the line and around corners, but had a top speed that was some 50 miles per hour slower than some of our opponents' cars. On several occasions we were overtaken by the same opponent on a straightaway and would then regain our lead at the next sharp corner. The differences in our vehicles made for a really interesting game of cat and mouse that will hopefully be the rule rather than the exception when Project Gotham Racing 3 is released alongside the Xbox 360 in November.

If you weren't the boss I'd ban your ass for quoting that!! ;)
8.8 is a good score I'm happy with that. However I am NOT happy with how they came up with that score. They say it hasn't changed that much from PGR2, well I don't know what the hell they were expecting. In their review they wanted "giant jumps" and "double 360" moves!! FFS that isn't what PGR is about.
The driving model is perfect so that won't change, they have added Gotham TV, In-car views, Route creator, Crowd system, new game modes etc etc, if that isn't enough content for a sequel to a racing game then I don't know what is. I'm not saying it should be a 10, maybe 8.8 is the right score. But saying there isn't enough new content is utter bollocks. IF GT5 has damage modelling then I guarentee it will be given a 10 for this "new" feature that has been around in PGR, Forza, Burnout for years.
They also say that without a HDtv the game looks no better than on a standard TV. If you look at the new direct feed videos over at xboxyde.com (http://www.xboxyde.com/news_2309_7238_3_en.html) , with the exception of the 720p intro everything is in the resolution you will be playing on a normal tv, and I think it looks fab.

Well put Dave, I was just thinking about the review this morning, PGR2 is a landmark title, it's really the game that Bizarre wanted to create all along, fair enough the Dreamcast never had the power to deliver it but M-SR was a decent game, and the XB release of PGR came along too soon for them to do anything much bar add New York. They reached the pinnacle, now they are looking to add to that.
What else can a driving game achieve anyhow? There is only so much 4 wheels can do in real life nevermind virtual racing. The other night after we played PGR, I checked out my stats, I've had 873 races online, I've driven 6800 and something odd virtual miles, 800 of which have been in an Enzo; I've spent 131 hours of my life with PGR2 in the drive, about 111hrs being online too, if I get half those stats with PGR3, I'll certainly have had more than my money's worth.
I'm thinking the IGN view is that they don't know exactly where to put PGR, it's not total realism like GT or Forza, and it's not arcade like Need for Speed or Burnout. Maybe that's just my view on it, but it's the first title I'll be booting up in my 360 :D

First thing I thought was, "shit, 8.8?". But then you read the review, and find out that it doesn't really have a fault at all. The reviewer's main gripe seems to be as Dave points out, that it's 'more of the same'. It's PGR2 with nicer graphics, and a few little extra although not mind-blowing features. I can see why this would disappoint some folk, maybe they expected more innovation. Having said that, the same site gave PGR2 a 9.5, and I do not see how adding delicious graphics and some nifty little extra modes to that game should drop the score to under 9, but there you go. The reviewer obviously expected more.

I also have a feeling that IGN are holding back on their reviews because this is the first gen of next gen games, so they don't want to put the review scores too high. That maybe incorrect but its the impression I get.
And I'm with Carl, it will definately be the first game I play on the 360.

Eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=61842) review, 8/10. It's a pretty good review when you read it, and I have to agree with a lot of the points brought up, such as Gotham TV being a bit boring. I doubt I'll use it again after checking it out initially, in much the same way as I very rarely watched GT replays no matter how nice they looked, they were still boring after the first few times.
Another thing which they picked up on was it's too easy to earn credits, and you can pick up nearly all the cars very quickly. There is a buzz about having to work for unlocks IMO, and handing them to you on a plate kind of takes away from that.
Pretty much echoes what other sites have said, that it's PGR2 with snazzy graphics, good enough for me although for the next installment I don't think that'll wash.

The whole difficulty issue has been discussed over at the Bizarre forums after a different review mentioned that the F50GT could be bought in a few hours of playing. A few of the developers have replied to some of the comments, and it's put my mind at ease.
None of these reviews mention the difficulty setting they played it on. Platinum is still incredibly hard. There are acheivements in the game that even some of the devs can't get which is a good sign. Also, why should the top cars be locked away for the average gamer. If the Speed12 wasn't downloadable in PGR2 I would never have driven it. I paid the same amount for the game as everyone else, so I should be able to drive all the cars.
As far as Online, the Truskill system is meant to be very very good at placing you in races with other drivers of the same level.
ClassicD
23 November 05, 12:20
I never got to drive the Speed 12. :)
I know Platinum is harder, but the fact that folk who won't play on this level can get all the cars anyway means it's pretty insignificant in that respect, you don't have to play on higher difficulty to unlock the cars. The top cars are there for everybody, but I think those who are better at or put more time into the game should reap greater rewards. You can have the same cars as everybody else, but only if you work as hard as they had to in order to get them, it's just the way I look at it.
That's what's fun in videogames, unlocking stuff, that "I need to have that car/track/skin/gun" feeling, and the way it drives you on to obtain them.
Holio
23 November 05, 12:51
I'm sort of with you and against you Classic, for me I completed the game on Silver level, I hated the cone challenges, so I was never going to go back to try and achieve a higher level on those cars. I have still a few cars to unlock, but I'll never ever get the Mercedes car in Ultimate class as it was never made downloadable. I did however complete the game, what Bizarre found was that there was only a handful of people who went past the first 5 'chapters' of PGR2. Wrighty never completed the game either.
Fair enough you have a challenge if you want to aim for Platinum levels, this time at least you Gamertag will show you have them, the better PGR racers rarely lose will playing online, I remember racing a Speed12 round the Ring once, man I never finished the flamin thing cause the guys who I played where that good in that room, that was over a minute 15 behind whoever won. Maybe they could of lowered the credits you can achieve at the lower levels, but they want people to enjoy the game to the full, I for one wont complain; cause as you get older you get less time to spend on videogaming :(

I can't be arsed with these gamertags tbh, little pictures and shit. It doesn't beat a simple statement like "I've got the F50, and you've no!".
I'm sure the game will be cracking, I just like having worthwhile things to unlock and I like to feel like it was worth unlocking them. By the sounds of it they'd have been as well to just do away with any credits system at all and make everything available from the word go.

Vroom vroom!
Only played it for an hour due for various reasons, but it's ace. The GFX are amazing even on a standard telly but I did buy the 'Advanced Scart' as usually the standard one they ship with the consoles is composite and rather jobby. Only have the one car, I picked it quickly as I just wanted to play, the Noble, it's rather good.
What I love is how when you set up an online game you can force everyone to use the in-car view! What I don't love is the seemingly complete lack of restricting the car choice in any way at all.
But I also love how my windscreen gets a wee bit dirty, etc.
I love I love I love. :)
Be on tonight maybe.

Had major problems on Live so far, end up getting "Could not connect to all players" 9 times out of 10. I was looking for games for 45 mins tonight I got about 2 races in that time.
There is also a problem with the game crashing. When you're in a lobby DO NOT try and view another player's profile, it crashes the game. I'm pretty sure even if you press your 360 button and go to view players, and try that way, it still crashes.
Also going off the in-car view a bit, it looks amazing but it's hard to judge because one side of your screen is right at the edge of your car (the side the steering wheel is on), and the other side has the rest of the car in between you and the wall if you know what I mean.
Holio
4 December 05, 22:33
Had the crashing problem like Classic as well, in car view is ok, but it does restrict your field of vision, tis different while driving the McLaren F1 seeing it sits in the middle, and maybe if you had a 42inch screen or bigger it might not seem as restrictive, still play the 'radiator' cam rather than the bumper cam more than any view, chase car is for total girls ;)
Come accross something i don't like in the game.
When your buying cars and filling your garage. It doesn't tell you what cars you have already bought.
Last night i ended up with 2 Nobles. I bought the first one last friday. So i decided to sell one. It cost me 115,000 credits and to sell you only get 46,000
They should be greyed out in the car list if you already own them !

It is annoying that the haven't given you some sort of visual indication that you own a particular car. However they have left it open as some people might want to collect the Enzo in all the different colours.

The only problem at the moment is is not being able to connect to a game via OptiMatch. Joining through Quick Match is fine, as is joining through mates. Online career is not a problem either.

You know that's complete shite from the start, the very first race, THE VERY FIRST ONE; el Wrightyo decided it would be pretty funny on the 3rd lap to ditch me into a barrier the scumbag, I then avoided the dirty scumbag for the most part, mainly just by driving better than him, and winning 6 in a row!
Then late on in a Ford GT race el Hoodio there ever so slightly nudged me into a barrier, till then it had been a perfectly fair race but oh know he couldnt race fair to the line, he had to do it dirty. The drunk french person was very random indeed, as my french language. The american guy was sound tho, and not a teenage dirtbag.

Can anyone tell me how to complete the first Cone Challenge on the London Track on Hardcore difficulty? how the hell am I supposed to get 16,000 Kudos!?? What car are people using to do it?
Also is it just me or are the vast majority of my online PGR3 Races ruined by complete tossers who deliberately thump you off the track?
Last night I did a 1/1 with someone and race him fairly, e.g. if he had the space and was coming past me I wouldnt deliberately slam him into a barrier or attempt to cut him off. But when I did actually give him room he deliberately rammed me head first into the barrier!! He made a mistake later on so I caught him again went to go past him on another corner and found myself being hit on the back end and spinning the wrong way!!, again I caught him but this time I thought "Sod it, no more Mr Nice Racing" so I got my chance on the last lap at the last corner and rammed him straight off (just so he knows how it feels) and won the race :)

Ninja, it depends on what classes are in the Online Career Tourneys you select, I tend to drive the Ferrari GTS, Enzo Ferrari and Ford GT for most of my Online successes. Dude if people start givin you shit make sure you give them shit back, im sick of people online deliberately ramming you when your being fair (e.g. they have got an overtaking opportunity and you give them room to finish the move instead of ramming them!) I always take a note of who that is and I usually get my chance to ram them back.... but I usually do it so that they recover and its too late :) as one guy found out when he booted me off the track twice in a 5 lap head to head race, I choose my moment and booted him off at the last corner :)

Am I the only one who finds it, for no apparent reason, absolutely HILARIOUS to play PGR3 with the classical music soundtrack? I even downloaded the Lone Ranger theme to race with that on the background. Can't stop laughing as I'm driving around with that on.
Maybe I played GTA3 with Double Cleff FM on too much and it's done something to my brain. :|
Anyway, as good as the game is, think it's going to get swapped for Burnout Revenge shortly. Then Call of Duty 2 for Far Cry. Good as PGR was, I still prefer Forza (being a simu-gamer), and Burnout Revenge is absolutely gorgeous (and fantastic on Live I'd bet).

I realise being a simu-gamer I shouldn't really be going for Burnout, but... Forza = Sim. PGR3 = Middle of the road. Burnout = Out and out arcade, and it's just... Fun. I'm not really into PGR at the moment, I finished single player a while ago, the online mode is full of crash-and-bashers, and it just ruins it for me. If it was MEANT to be played like that though, like Burnout, it would be tremendous fun.
I may sell something un-XBOX related and get it seperately though, cos I would like to keep it. Nearly finished CoD2 (at least I hope so!) - once that's done I could swap that, actually.

Yeah I agree with Jack on PGR3, I finished the single-player a while back and really don't go online with it unless we're doing an Evo-Web night. Couldn't part with it though, it's the only game on 360 I thought worth buying.
Forza was an excellent game! The only problem I had was the framerate, it postively heaved, such a sluggish game. Other than that, it rocked!
Burnout 3 = pure, unfiltered fun. First game I played on Live and still one of the best!
Forza I thought was ace :) better than Gran Turismo because you could buy cars, do them up in your OWN way including paint work and sticker kits and you actually in a way had to pay for your own damage! the game for me had more depth and was more interesting than Gran Turismo 4 which bored me after about 3 weeks of playing it. As everyone has said shame about the frame rate but it is shocking on emulation on the 360.

Revealed in an interview with Bizarre in a magazine apparently, and they themselves have confirmed some of the features here (http://projectgothamracing3.com/cars/Speed+Pack.htm) so it sounds pretty reliable.
The fixes/features will be free as will the new tourney mode and supposedly one car. The rest of the cars will cost 400 points, and I have no idea how much that is. Monday April 17th is the date this will be available.
The fixes are welcome, especially locking to car classes and showing the name of the speakers on Live. I'll be overjoyed if 'Steering Wheel support' will let me use my Logitech Driving Force, but I'm not that hopeful.

Yeah I agree on the cars, poor selection and now with the limiting filters in Live play it doesn't even matter if those cars are any faster than the default ones.

I went to use the Vantage tonight in career mode, but I can't afford it because of the sodding bug that makes you have minus cash, something like -1,-32,567 I have at the moment. They might have fixed that as well!
It's nice being able to see who's talking, but I don't like how if you turn off the HUD it's the whole thing that has to go. I'd like the map and who's chatting left up but it's all or nothing.

Anyone had a go at the tourney yet? It's the Gallardo round Nishiguchi Short (Tokyo). When I first tried the qualification bar was 00:54:00 and the best I could muster was something like 00:55:65. After an evening playing the online career for a while I checked again before I turned it off and it was down to 00:53-something. I know my lap isn't perfect but I cannot see where I can gain almost two seconds, there goes my dream of a Lambo skip-cap!
Oh yeah, since the update online career is much better in terms of who you race against, it's usually always folk from the same TrueSkill rank as yourself. While playing last night there was very little nudging and spinning and when there was, there was always an apology and one guy even slowed down and asked me to pass him because he knew he'd done me unfairly (last corner on the ring), what a gent!
Online career is much better than Playtime for clean and competitive racing, still can't nail a win on the Ring tho.

Any idea what resolution this runs at on a HDTV, don't have a 360 myself. But the demo pod version is full of jaggies, seems more like PS2 resolution than anything.

1080i is the max it will run at, I use 720P and think it looks just fine on my 42" LG Plasma HD.
PS2 Resolution? what are you smoking!!
