It might be a bit early, but we all have our views and expectations regarding the next installment of the Pro Evo series.

Nokami have stated that they can't really surpass the visual side of the game until the next generation consoles appear. We can tell it's getting far too busy and crowded. However, i know that they could easily tweak a lot of non-cosmetic elemnets of the game, eg the Master League structure, general editing (squads, transfers, kits etc). I wouldn't mind at least one more licensed league (2 would be better, but i'm trying to be realistic).

I wonder whether Munich's new home, the Allianz Arena, will make it in to the game, seeing as they move there this summer. The place looks huge.

They should focusing on improving the Master League, tweaking some gameplay aspects, mainly on kicks, and no more shoots with the knee, I seem to score great goals from 30+ meters with the knee all the time!
They should license every team.
Editing should be improving, on the aspect of kits.
just my 2 cents! ;)

13 April 05, 14:07
Licenses should be full, more grounds/stadiums, more cup/leagues and perhaps focus on online improvements rather than master league which tbh, bores me.

Set-piece design. Edit some direct/indirect free kicks in training and assign a set piece using, say, :l2: , and :square: , :x: , :triangle: or :circle:

Players with bad balance maybe lose it while trying to keep up / turn with a skillful winger?

Riots? :)

More realistic shooting animations would be nice.
If you look at the animations for shooting in PES4 they are really poor. You should be able to shoot the ball cleanly facing 90 degrees to the goal wthout falling over.

13 April 05, 14:26
Good point. The penalty action capture is complete pish also. The guy leaves the ground like he's in a hurdle race on 2 of the animations.

I don't care much about stadiums, but since I drive past the Allianz Arena every day, I'd really like to see it in the game. It's a beautiful stadium. :)

The big improvements should be bringing more atmosphere to the game with better presentation, sound, in-game graphics and statistics. I'm not sure if they're going to throw the current game mechanics completely overboard by adding full analogue movement to the game. If they do, the game will work and feel completely different to how it does now, it may even require realtime calulation of body movements and collision. It may depend on the layout of the controller if they have to take this big step.

Professor Nutmeg
13 April 05, 15:21
You see, i'm not bothered about online play. For me, it's not what the game is about. It doesn't do anything for me. I would rather the game itself be improved, with animations, techniques, atmos and all that. Totally agree with the PK animation. It's been rubbish for ages. Although they did manage a better default FK animation in PES4.

Some more licenses
Striped shirts in the editor
NO stutter or slow down
Improved commentary and crowd chants
A manual that tells how to do the tricks ;)
Replays should be allowed even after the ball has gone out

Professor Nutmeg
13 April 05, 18:51
I'm positive striped shirts will be back. They appear in WE8LE. I think they realised the error of their ways.
Hopefully no feature will take a step backwards in PES5, like when they see fit to omit a perfectly good feature eg free players (speed bar, anyone?) or static keepers during long shots.

That Allianz Arena looks beautiful - altho as it's in Munich it won't be mistaken for a water ring.:D

The thing that gets me is the tackling and the swapping of players, I seem to make 3 - 4 tackles and still don't get the ball whereas the com will make 1 and get it straight away (is this just me?) also the com seems to get to more of the loose balls than I do ( again just me??).

With the swapping of players I'd like it MANUAL!!! Even on full manual if the ball goes more than a foot off the ground it reselects a player!! Also It'd be nice to see the NEAREST player selected when chasing the ball.

So many times I have to press select 2 - 3 times to get the player that is blatantly closest to the ball.

This is the most annoying thing for me. The cosmetic stuff isn't too much of an issue, for me it's all about the gameplay. Although being a Saints fan I would like to see vertical (and horizontal for Celtic) stripes back, slightly annoying that you can't change them.

Professor Nutmeg
14 April 05, 13:08
I totally agree about the tackling/loose balls/player selecting scenarios. I get it too. Most annoying.

That's because the AI does on occassion cheat it's ass off! While it provides a challenge, it's precisely the reason I want to see them implement online play better, online play is so much tougher, but fairer. PES5 will be at least their third (possibly even fourth if WE9 arrives first) attempt at online play, so I hope they have learned some lessons.

Master League, well a few versions ago I had given up on it but I am playing it again with WE8LE. What I really cannot understand is they have these licensed leagues, and they don't use them in the ML? They have enough teams from each nation to create a more realistic feel to the game yet they limit us to 4 leagues of 16 teams and then force the Division 2 sides' promotion to go into your league, screwing up any chance you had of 'keeping it real'.

A real nit-picky point here but I feel it's worth mentioning - fire whoever is doing the menu desgins because they are terrible. I don't know if they look ok to a Japanese-reading player but the alpha character set looks so out of place, it's big and ugly. Something a bit cleaner and smaller would suit better.

Stadiums would be nice, it's always cool when they put new ones in and you find they play well (eg Delle Alpi in WE7).

And of course, the regular slew of gameplay enhancements would also be appreciated.

Oh yeah, and for once i want to see a pacey forward actually break away from a slow defender, with no chance of catching him. Please! no more olympic sprinting defenders (particularly when their speed/accleration stats are in the low 60s)

Two_blindmonkeys
14 April 05, 14:02
I wouldnt mind a carrer mode for the leberto grande style. I'd love it if you went into a team as a youngster and worked your way into the team and became a star player with the world at your feet get bought by Real, play for your country get dropped if your crap. it may never happen but i really wish Konami would creat something like this or make a new game. also add a career mode in the master league where you can move clubs and stuff :)

Same with balance a defender with 99 balance can get muscled off the ball by a striker with 70 and half his size.

Also I'm glad it's not just me that get's annoyed by the com cheating.

There are times when the com doesn't cheat and still beats me which I don't mind one bit.

I actually applaud the com beating me when it doesn't cheat. I love seeing them whip in quality crosses and both defender and striker jumping for the ball instead of my defender being rooted to the spot!

Professor Nutmeg
14 April 05, 14:14
Yeah, cheating has been present for a while in the series. I remember a while back, there people here who didn't believe the com/AI cheated.

I had a classic the other day, during a free kick against me. They whipped the ball in towards the area, from the left, and my keeper just took off towards the opposite (right) corner flag, as if he'd just seen Godzilla. A bit of a penalty area scramble and "WTF is he doing?" later, the com managed to score a winner. The keeper eventually ran back towards the goal and had the cheek to do a half-arsed dive. This was more a bug i imagine, but both hilarious and frustrating in equal measures.

Player-specific animations would be nice. Specific animations in terms of shooting, dribbling etc. for the players who have a truely unique style of movement like Zidane, Henry, and Ronaldinho. Having about 5 different generic styles of player animation - along with the ones for unique players - would give an impression of variety among the players, and generally give the game more personality, so they don't all move like mindless, identical drones.

Proper domestic leagues should be incorporated into the Master League, or even better, do away with Master League completely and have full club seasons, with domestic and european competitions included, along with the development/declining and training feature. Ofcourse, more licenses, stadiums, and editing features would be good as well.

A greater variety of individual abilities should be included that are actually effective, unlike the naff step-overs. Ofcourse there shouldn't be a cheap trick that you can run through a whole team with, but just more individual skill to give the allow the player to feel like they are actually being creative with their dribbling, instead of just over-using the old R2 sidestep time and again.

The ability to control the height of shots would be good. Instead of the power bar determining the height and strength of the shot, it should only determine the strength. Maybe holding away from the goal could determine the height of the shot. Basically, I want to perform daisy-cutters at my own volition, and not have them occur randomly like in PES4.

I know this a stretch, due to the limits of the PS2, but I'd really like it if the CPU could emulate the style and tactics of the "big" teams. For example, Arsenal would always try to play along the floor, and rely on Henry to create for them. This would allow players to emulate real life tactics in order to stop the big guns, like double-teaming Henry or Ronaldinho when you play Arsenal, or trying to get in behind AC Milan's fullbacks (their only weak spot). In short, give each of the big CPU teams more personality instead of having them play so generically.

Lastly, I'd love it if they only allowed skillful players to pass with the outside of the boot. This really annoys me on PES4, seeing the likes of Sol Campbell and Roy Keane spraying the ball about with the outside of their boots. It just looks rubbish. Also, slowing the game down by about 10% would be nice.

PES5 well lets see......... there are the ones that most ppl want...

*more licenses it really should be fully licensed by now
*better stucture to ML and the custom cups more options
*a proper pen system
*better commentry (scap that they never get it right)
*better atmospher proper crowd chants ect...
*at least 1 scottish stadium and where is the Bernabeu or Stade de France too many english stadia.

on the subject of online play for PES5 i would like them to have a option to play ranked or unranked matches unlike on the xbox which is always a ranked match.

More animations.
A sort of career mode where you can change clubs if you want (or can be forced to quit and play with a lesser team if you don't reach your targets).
A more realistic transfer system, i.e. that tiny clubs like Real Madrid can buy big Belgian stars ...oops.... you know what i mean...that clubs like Club Brugge can't buy Ronaldo.
A tweaked ML. Fully editable (you choose how many leagues there will be , 4, 6,..., if there will be play-offs at the ende of the season between top division 2 clubs and bottom division 1 clubs,...).
Realistic playing styles for CPU teams (Arsenal: technical, Chelsea rather defensive and counter attacking, ...).
More logic in player and team form: if a team is on a winning streak they are harder to play, if a team is on a loosing streak they are easier to play, a player who has scored a hat-trick will always have a red arrow up and GK who made a huge mistake will have an arrow down,...
Snow (not very important, but i would like it).
Will somebody fianlly change the grass texture of the Cuito I Don't Know What stadium...if i have to play a team in that one i always loose..i can hardly see the ball (yes my eyes i know).
More stadiums
More teams (don't care if their licensed).
Hoops.

But despite this list i think the game is already fantastic (wanted to finish on a positive note).

Professor Nutmeg
15 April 05, 09:12
I know which stadium you mean gerd. It is hard to see the ball.
I think essentially i would like gameplay to be improved. Perhaps one day i'll feel the need not to buy rubbish players (ie handicap myself) in order to find a challenge.

JimJoeC
15 April 05, 10:13
You can select the stadiums for each team, I have called that one'DO NOT USE' and as a result never use it ;).

I think people get too caught up in graphical (sp) enhancements, I wouldnt care if the graphics were blocky as fuck but it played perfectly. It doesn't matter that Beckhams latest hair-do isn't follicle perfect!

It's all about the gameplay! Get that right and you're onto a winner. Overall it's an excellent game it's just a few touches that let it down/make it frustrating.

Another thing I thought of last night was throw ins, please Konami make it like it was in pes2&3 where you control the reciever and not the thrower. The amount of times I've lost possesion to the new gay throw in and conceeded a goal is unreal.

Different Leagues/teams should have a noticeably different style of playing.

Playing an all Premiership match should feel significantly faster paced than a Serie A game for instance.

Already WE8/PES4 went some way to changing the way teams played if they were ahead or behind (bringing on or removing an attacker etc..) so this needs to be combined with the above.

Db

15 April 05, 11:45
If your team is losing, you can select a mini game where you are a member of the crowd and you can aim Flares at the oppositions Goalkeepers head to stop the game?

Now that would be realistic!

15 April 05, 13:02
just a few things that i havent seen mentioned here yet:

I wish they would give us the power to curl the ball, like in iss 64.

and in the kit options, where you select long sleeves etc, you can choose whether the player has his shirt tucked into his shorts or not, like essien or andy reid, completley pointless but fuck it i would like it.

Licensed cups and competitions could be interesting.

Some great ideas so far, one that always crops up in these things seems to be a revamped, realistic Master League but you wonder if it will ever happen (remember how long it took to get manual replays?).

Gerd that pitch (real name Bloemfontein Rugby), I hate it too but I give it to a couple of smaller clubs as it makes it very hard to go to their ground and get a result, meaning I usually have a small team or two which are always capable of providing an upset.

db, that would be fantastic but I think I would rather see them develop AI which can play without resorting to cheating first, last night I swear to god my players were doing the old 'lead in their boots' routine (they have the animation to run fast but they are literally at walking pace until the AI player is nearer to the ball, then the game 'releases' your player).

I think they should add real time replys. For some reasson on real time it looks really better than slow motion, I don't thin slow motion really justifys the goal.

They should add the ability to make a fake dive to get a freekick. I think that will be pretty nice, especially when you're playing against friends (imagine it will drive them crazy :) ). But it shouldn;t be too easy to perform; bad execution should lead to getting a yellow card.

i realy think diving should be in the game. its so hard to re-anact the bayurn game :

Professor Nutmeg
20 April 05, 09:05
Hmm, electronic adboards wouldn't add anything to the gameplay for me, personally. However, i would like to see ONE league cup, which involves all Div 1 & Div 2 teams. At least this way, if you are in Div 2, you could attempt to bag a European place by either winning it, or being runner up. Plus, as a lesser Div 2 side, you could be drawn against some Div 1 giants (very FA Cup :D ) How simple would that be to do Nokami, hmm? Exactly.

JimJoeC
20 April 05, 09:21
It's always the little things that Konami miss, you only need to create one league and have the others simulated.

Then you could have a full league (18 - 20 teams) and still have all the European and domestic cups. Surely that'd be easier than creating 4 leagues??

Also I'd like to see the ability to get job offers from other clubs or even country's.

How cool would it be getting offered the Japan job and taking them onto a world cup?

Or even getting sacked and having to manage Caen!!

Not too difficult I wouldn't have thought.

I find the game easy, yet i believe this would be a good idea. It wouldn't neccesarily be easy though. There would be more games, and more of a chance of going out. Your first season in Div 2 normally means you have your worst team too, players haven't developed yet, you haven't signed a decent striker etc. I also think it would help reshape the ML experience into a slightly more realistic one. I mean just look at Aachen and Millwall. Both teams got into Europe (UEFA Cup) via their league cups. It also looks as if a lower league French side might qualify for the UEFA Cup next season too (via this season's cup). Those are my reasons ;)

Some of the animations in PES4 are pretty ugly, eg. the forward facing long shots on goal are horrendous, whats with their legs curling up like they wanna levitate or smth? Replace that with the roberto carlos/lampard style kicks (they kinda did it in LE, but still pretty ordinary) where the kick follows through more to the side than in front.
Scrap/fix the terrible outside-foot pass, which adds realism but was not executed well.
Add beckham style curl shots in play, not just in free kicks.
Add all the tricks - nutmeg/stepover/fient/elastico/backheel/fake variations to the game.
Remove the defender glue feature, where the defender sticks to the attacker and causes unrealistic problems.
PK animations are ridiculous in pes4 as mentioned previously... revamp.
Allow power gauge shooting beyond the half way line
Add training jerseys for specific teams
Mini games in training (not challenges) eg juggling contests
More complex set pieces
Allow shots on goal from corner
downloadable updates of transfers and team changes
Snow!

This is a minor gripe, but when i heard kits would be licensed along with the leagues, i thought the shirt numbers would be the real ones too. The fact is, not only are they not, but in some cases like Lazio, they haven't even got the correct colours. So what i'm saying is, they should allow us to edit these features in future, if they can't get it right themselves. In fact, as a rule of thumb, they should allow everything to be more editable. But as i said, a minor gripe, and i won't expect it to be any different on PES5.

3rd Kits, new free kicks, new view, national cups, bigger ML Alianza Arena, etc. are all really cool ideas 8)

To add to that I would like to see multi-player national leagues, players sent off for pro fouls in clear goalscoring situations (meaning the CPU as well Nokami) motifs increased to 64x64 and the introduction of badges on the international strips. The flags get in the way of some of the kit designs which is a bit naff.

the one of few things I like in fifa/euro is vibrations support which make games really cool, I wish to see (to feel) it in PES5

I read to often that the Allianz Arena from Bayern "The scum of the earth" Munich should be in. Does nobody know the Arena Auf Schalke? It´s the most modern stadium in Europe since 2001. We hosted the Champions League final there last year.

Further, slightly better keepers.

A bit more control on freekicks - they were too easy 2 or 3 years ago, but now they are too hard.

Penalties are just pure luck. Sometimes you hit the crossbar or your shot goes wide and you never know why.

If you have slow defenders that would never catch a quick striker, it should be harder to get past those defenders. Otherwise that would be the next big critism Konami would get.

Full license. I think they earned enough money by now and the fans are there. We would die for a fully lincensed Pro Evo.

For menues and off the pitch stuff they should just "steal" it from EA. I´ve never ever touched a FIFA game since 2001 or so, but from what you hear and see, EA knows how to get some atmosphere into it´s games. Although this is one of the less important things for me. I want the gameplay to be as good as it can be.

Changing players needs to be better.

Tricks shouldn´t be too effective and / or work to often. You´ll be a happier man if it doesn´t happen too often. Keep it real.

Crowd chants for every bigger European team. Hey Konami, I´ll go and record something for you from the Schalke games. I only want a free copy of the next game.

Hmm, Are you a Schalke fan perhaps? No Offence meant, but although the Arena Auf Schalke is brilliant it's not to different to the Millennium Stadium (Cardiff) and Amsterdam Arena. You can use the AA as both those stadiums, The Allianz looks quite different. As does the new Wem-ber-leee!!

I cannot relate to you Video Game Ninjas that dominate almost every game on the hardest difficulty level with average players, I guess they could work on that, although I hope their main focus for improving their AI is not "making it harder" but "making it more realistic".
...and there is no such thing as the game being "too easy" when it comes to playing human competition-which is half the fun for me, masterleague being the other half.

Instead of making the game "harder" I would much rather see them customize the playing style of individual teams to better match how that team really plays in real life.

I find it annoying when I play against Arsenal and they keep playing the long ball and crossing it to the middle. This style is completely wrong for Arsenal. Arsenal never plays the long ball and rarely uses crosses with Henry. It is simply not their style. It would be great if they could craft their AI so that teams with very individualized playing styles played in the game with the style they do in real life.
This would add more tactical elements to gameplay and that in turn, probably would make the game more difficult anyway.

You wouldnt be able to beat AC Milan the same way you beat Real Madrid so you'd have to think and plan how you were going to play your game more.

As I said there is a small degree of this already (more when you play against human competition with tactical tweaks) but I would like to see it expanded so you really would have to employ different tactics against different teams.

(not sure if this will really be possible for PES5 on P2 though or if this is more something for the P3)

I know Konami is still MUCH better at this aspect than FIFA but I would still like to see an Arsenal that played like Arsenal.

Agree with Stringer Bell about the realtime replays - watching the goal (or showing to mates) exactly how you saw it happen the first time would be better, then a couple of slow-mos.

Bring back wooden posts - I know they're all steel nowadays, but I loved the crack of the woodwork when it smacked the bar. Better than scoring sometimes in my opinion.

Much better commentary.

I would also like to see random growth curves everytime you statrt a ML. This will be a lot better becuase there would be unpredicatble turn out to the players you buy and you have to be catious of your transfer. For example if you buy Fabregas in one ML he might turn out shit....the next he might turn out shit again...you decside to buy him in the next but you say he might be shit but on the this ML he won't. So Konami should make the growth curves random in every new ML you play.

how about they add in an animation with the striker or recipient of a thru ball pointing to where they would like it to come... u kno, like some strikers do in real life.

this will also force konami to give us the option of where the thru pass is played to unlike now when the computer can sometimes override your command and send the pass to the other side of the field

I think this is a great idea by www.yzzerdd.

it would be great if you could choose which players are inside the box at set-pieces...
e.g. ManU's centre backs (Ferdinand & Brown) both are in the opponent's area at set-pieces, so this might add realism to the game!
in pes3 and 4 you only could send one of the backs in the box for scoring!
i don't think this could be a real problem to add this feature!

It's time Konami took a long hard look at both formats WE and PES. It needs big changes in the AI and for god's sake an update of the ML format. Give us a full league and cup format that’s editable... it's not rocket science!!! We don't even need the full licences.. though with the revenue created I think it's a case of deep pockets on their part.

Don't get me wrong WE or PES are the best sim on the market but how long can Konami go on churning out title after title with nothing more than a few tweaks and some more hair styles for Pete’s sake.....

Oh and just one last thing that is even worse in WE8LW than PES4.. please please please please stop with the cheating (nudging players on the ball so they stumble ALL THE BLOODY TIME!!!.. rebounds, clearances even good tackles always going straight to the comp player who can recover from anything twice as fast as you can..... running round up down back front through 4 players without even the slightest hint of a tackle while you pound the X key.....Keepers getting stuck in concrete...getting left and right backs to play strikers on the far side of the pitch onside while they score or even just being plain miles off side but then make it so you cant see from the replay, nice.... while your players are given off side for being just being close) and watch some football Konami fast players can out run slower players even with the ball it's true...IT'S A SCIENTIFICT FACT AND IT'S A BIG/HUGE PART OF FOOTBALL SO SORT IT!!!! I don't want to play pass ping-pong.... And anyone who comes on saying it makes the game better coz it's harder or it's too easy if your fast strikers can outstrip defenders etc?? Sorry but I want a football sim.... FOOTBALL SIM..... like real life football. It happens there and you don’t get strikers one on one with the keeper every attack.. All it needs is good so called AI. Well done if you've read this far I could go on for hours but it has all been said before and I'm sure (sadly) will all be said again after PES5, WE9, WE9FE, WE9LW, PES6 etc......

You've just gotta love this game ;)

I think most people are with you on the AI/cheating thing. It's just disappointing as much as frustrating really. Just yesterday i scored a late equalizer, when obviously i wasn't allowed to, because the com kicked off, did a bit of ESP dribbling up to my goal and finished with a rocket, instantly. My subtle tackles do nothing to stop the players in these sitations, so i maliciously tend to hack them down (as far from the area as possible, mind), knowing that if i don't, they will score. Yeah, it's disappointing, as it's almost out of your hands really. If the com wants to win, either by denying you, or fashioning a goal out of nothing, it will. I don't mind losing, far from it, just do it properly. :)

9 May 05, 17:43
Yes it gets real annoying sometimes (6 controllers and counting) I think the AI should be tweaked to make or take into account away games which should be harder to win given the teams league standings etc. Don't notice anything like that now, and I quite like It when the comp outplays me or sporns a goal now and then, losing is part of the true sim of football but please let me lose fair, drop the cheating it's ruining the game for me!!

Also lets have more Knocks and Injuries...the most I’ve ever had was three in one season and then never two out at one time!!

I think something which could be added to the game which i think i'm taking from the fifa game is profiles. The profile would store all your result data for example winning streak, biggest win, record against another profile, biggest loss. It doesn't add anything to the gameplay but would add something to it overall!

Other possible things include the ability to call your keeper up for a corner in the final minute, rather than hope the computer will send him up for you.

Another thing which i feel would slightly add to the realism is possibly the ability to celebrate by removing your shirt after a goal and it would be your choice whether to do it, knowing full well that the player would be booked if he did it.

Again, doesn't add anything to the gameplay, but other than poor keepers, bad potential in master league for players, and difficulty level (lack of). Pro Evolution Soccer didn't need really need many other improvements.

Snow!
Being able to curl the ball when shooting

Better shot accuracy such as Gerrard n Lampard etc

Having off the ball control just like Fifa did but do it right, i reckon Konami could do a great job of it!!

The best thing that would make the game fantastic would be able to arange how your team lines up on corners (both defensive and attacking) and free kicks.

This would add so much to the game and if you could save two or three line ups for a team (the more the merrier) you could surprise the opposition by chosing a different free kick or corner everytime.

I think this will be a major change, and would enhance the game and would be true evolution. It would also add more depth and satisfaction.

I'd rather see the so called AI improved and see players moving/jostling and calling for passes as in real life, and sorting the through ball out and the way the players always come off second best with those kind of passes.... the way they just run in the same line to where the ball will end up or bounce and not react to the ball itself... Also i played FIFA and that part of the game was as big a joke as First Touch.

After all football is a team game even if you are playing on your own, other players should do things off their own backs when you're not in control it's lifelike even if they do mess up sometimes!!

db, that would be fantastic but I think I would rather see them develop AI which can play without resorting to cheating first, last night I swear to god my players were doing the old 'lead in their boots' routine (they have the animation to run fast but they are literally at walking pace until the AI player is nearer to the ball, then the game 'releases' your player).

I totally agree ClassicD. The amount of times I reset a game in a Prem-league season with Man Utd because after going about 2-0 up in the first 15mins, all of sudden my players slow down as if they're tired out already. Bit like Liverpool v Juventus at home in Champs League recently. Then whenever they turn direction the 'Ol lead boots virus' attacks them.

Im some PS2 magazine, it says score first and your team plays better. Better shots on goal, more accurate passing. This may be true against one of your mates, but the CPU seems to suck it all up from your players and they start playing better football & your own players play as if they're 2-0 down!

The magazine also said that this is all due to scripting by SeaBass & Co. I dont understand why you'd make 'THE' best football game ever and put these stupid annoyances in to p*ss everyone off. Its an insult.

Another favorite annoyance of mine is the 'Invisible Umbrella Hook' tactic the cpu employs whenever
(1) Your striker is on course to break free from last defender standing
(2) When your striker is about to go for a thru-ball pass &
(3) When your defender is chasing a cpu winger just before they cross in to the 18yrd box.

the 'Invisible Umbrella Hook' is when your player suddenly gets pushed back a metre so that the CPU striker or defender can get the ball or cross in without your defender making a block or tackle.

Another gripe is when Ive played a thru-ball and without pressing any button, the striker kicks it out in front of him, far enough for the CPU goalie to pick it up. And even at times although I have the controller running towards the goal to score, my striker just turns back so the defender can make a tackle!

I could go on but I thought I was going crazy, like maybe it was just happening to me!!

I also agree with an earlier post that they should re-vamp the menu. It looks so-dated. Every year FIFA gets crap but the visuals just look great with music tracks to boot. The menu is a real let-down.

As for licensing, it never makes sense to me why Konami cant get them. All the other crap footie games get em. i think even 'This is Football' has got them. Why cant Konami sort this out. Its not like money is an issue to buy licenses is it?

Peace

16 May 05, 11:01
Anyone think Konami should give us an option to turn the refs off, just so we can give the cheating cpu a good kicking? How many times Ive played a game & watched as the cpu players legs turn in to professional woodcutters and hack my players down like sycamores.

Once I was playing totenham, (me= Man Utd) and ledley kings behind me making no less than three attempts to hack me down. Miracoulsy I still stayed on 2 feet but its only a matter of time before you're quadruple-teamed and you loose the ball. Then Im fouled flat on my face in the 18yrd box, no penalty, hacked and sent airborn, but the ref wants to play on, & not notice. Then out of shear anger & frustration I make a tackle and get sent off immediately, no warnings or anything.

The biggest tool that game has is the ref, and when the CPU cant handle a can of whoop-ass it just sets the ref out to get you. Imagine a game without the ref where you gave as good as you got. Hmmm...

Oh the strangest thing happened last week. I actually got a penalty, in the 89th minute. I missed it and the goalie parried it for a corner. But check this out...

I scored from the corner and instead of goal celebrations the game just went for a goal kick. No offside was given nothing. I did win the game but man this CPU just keeps amazing me all the time.... anyone else had strange things like this happen?

And teams... At least 6 argentinian and 6 brazilian teams (full leagues would be awesome but it's OK with that), more national teams, maybe some mexican, and definitely more from the rest of Europe. But I guess that would be for PlayStation 3 hehe... =\

I would like a Master League (maybe not PES5 but a future version of WE/PES) to have an option where you can be head hunted by a club to become their new manager. You could be rated as a manager on your success not only the pitch but also developing new players. This would allow you to progress up the ladder to become say coach of a national team....just an idea.

I just feel after playing nearly 11 seasons of the same team in ML, it becomes slightly tiresome.

Also the AI needs tweaking.

What PES 5 needs is FULL licences. No more excuses. By now, they should be getting it right.

Also, a new and improved set of ways to nutmeg your opponent, and a way to practice them in an empty court, with vocal or written assistance until you get it right.

And most importantly - EVERYTHING should be random in the game. PES 4 felt too scripted to me. certain things always happened at certain moments. That's no good, until I got tired of it and stopped playing.

6 June 05, 09:48
There was a mention of PES5 in the Star yesterday...

"Chelsea skipper John Terry has been signed up to become the new face of the UK version of Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer. Terry, 24, will be closely involved with the next instalment of the franchise due out later this year. The Pro Evolution Soccer series is renowned for its realism and is the best-selling title for any games console. The England ace is a confirmed fan and regulary hosts tournaments at home for his team-mates and takes copies with him when away on international duty."

I suppose that's good news, the more big players Konami get aboard, the more people who will buy the game, the more money, the more licences.

ozzie66
6 June 05, 10:18
For most people who are demanding full licences, you have to remember EA bought the full licence permitting the to full use the likeness of almost all players and clubs. Konami can not get a full licence till the Fifa deal with EA ends, or if EA allow Konami to have rights too (likely not). Something like this happened to Sega's ESPN NFL 2k5 when EA bought the licence of ESPN for NFL games. Sega can now not use the ESPN licence anymore

That is why Konami are trying to get altenatives. The best will probably get the licence from each individual country but that could cost more than they would gain

My guess would be that the cpu's players has an invinsible bonus advantage when it comes to the stat "response". This is the only stat that truly matters in the series and changing it has a huge impact on the gameplay.

I've played plenty of we8 online at first. Every game was the same though, as always I pick a lesser side since I hate fast uncontrollable players, Villareal is the team I pick this time.

I try playing the game the way its supposed to be played, I really do , keeping possesion with nice short passing, to no use unfortunately.

WTF are my players doing?! Most of my midfielders just fecking take off! Come bacK!I only have the ball at the half line and my midfielders starts making runs into the box! What the hell...?

Anyway there's a brave soul, standing there in the middle of the pitch, he found some space too. I think I'll give him a pass. Passs!
Anyway, I lose the ball, somhow I always do. I am playing someone using Milan btw, obviously a team with higher response and thats the piont! IT really shows! Anyway, he has no ambitions, he doesnt keep possesion, he dosnt pass but he does hes dribble. He's ryuning with Kaka making tripplets and all kinds of tricks. I tackle him cleanly with x and the ball just decides to bounce to seedorf. I give him space this time, tryicng to close him down with two players using [] and x Same shit happents again, I tackle and wins the ball...I think, the bounce again magically bounces to some other Milan players who magically finds finds space just outside the box. AGAIN I try tackling him and the ball bounce back and forth between players and in the end ends upon an unmarked Crespo in the box with a basicly open gaol! Ooooh!!!!!!!!!!

What the hell!? this guy cant be enjoying this! I know I know I certainly dont! I try keeping possesion for the rest of the game creating chances the way its supposed to be done but in the end I just dont. And of coures I let in 3-4 crap goals.

He tells me I dont know how to play, that I am playing sloooow and boring. I apparenntly cant dribble or shoot. I tell him I'm only losing cus I try making this look like football but but it just aint possible!

19 June 05, 11:52
Oh sorry about that message, I eh, oh well :)

But, exactly, its not much about long or short passing though, but when you're facing a crowded defence instead of passing it around wating for an opportunity for a through-ball or dribble, its just better to take on, even if its up to 3-4 players, and hope for fortuna to be on your side. The physics just sucks and the ball can end up anywhere, just as well in the feets of a team-mate with an opportunity for a shot.

Its really how it is. Try playing something that bear any resemblance to football and you will lose. I often lose against people that hardly plays the game except when they're here for christ sake. The learning curve just sucks, there's no real balance here, or a sense of satisfaction since it all feels extremely scripted. I dont feel I ever improved on WE8/WE8:LW or PES4, the game play is just way too limited/scripted.

I completely agree with you, i have thought this for several years now. SWOS was outstanding, Konami should be copying this format in pes5. I also think that they have to do something a lot better with the replays. The angle that you get some replays are just plain ridiculous, all you need is a real time replay from the angle you are playing the game and also a replay from directly behind the player who is shooting (i don't know how many times ive hit a freekick that just whizzed past and you get some crappy replay from an angle that shows you nothing. You shoul dalso be able to get a replay of a shot even if it goes past for a bye kick or a corner, coz at the moment you have to press start almost as soon as the ball goes over the line or you cannot view it.
As for all those people who want a dive button, you are off your heads. Hasn't anyone played This Is Football? It just makes a mockery of the game , coz as soon as you get into the box people automatically want to dive and you end up gettin men sent off (for doing what pires & petrov have made a career out of). The dive button would definitly ruin the game just like the option to kick the reff and so on, Imagine playing against your friend and you are leading 2-0 and he knows its difficult to grab the draw than he just stops trying to score and throws the game in this rubbish diving and kicking etc witch would result in a game suspended.

That would take away too much from the game.

The rational common sense would say that if its on winning eleven its on pro evolution but lets wait because the company is baes in an other continent.

Descent Button

Many times have i damaged a control pad in anger about a stupid descision by the referee which has cost me, so I would love to have a button to use after a whistle for a foul/offside etc to vent my rage at the referee to maybe influence the referees decision or, to get a yellow card rather than having to buy a new controller.
