Winning Eleven Tactics: European Club Soccer Impressions


TOKYO--On just a single screen on its large Tokyo Game Show booth, Konami is showing a short video of the previously unannounced Winning Eleven Tactics: European Club Soccer for the PS2. At first glance, the video appeared to be of a regular Winning Eleven title, but it soon became clear that the focus of the game was the strategy and formation screens rather than the action on the pitch. From what we could gather, you'll be able to watch your team in action using the regular Winning Eleven engine, but will also have the option to switch to a more management game-like top-down view of the pitch on which all of the players are represented as circles.

We'll bring you more information on Winning Eleven Tactics: European Club Soccer--which will probably see a release outside of Japan at some point--as soon as it becomes available. For more updates, be sure to check GameSpot's coverage of Tokyo Game Show 2004.

Just got this badboy, need a translation patch but then it looks amazing, just imagine though if you could have this full level of managment AND play the game !

Dont see why they can't do this a DVD can take 4.2 Gig, the Euro Manager bit is only 1 GIG leaving around 3 GIG to bolt on PES4/WE8

fernando has been waiting for this game for awhile..so have i...we will both help translate this fucker..just like we did we8JL.....fernando is legend ...never doubt his abilities...it is amazing a argentine person speaks and reads both english...the latin languages...and japanese kanji as well.....we will all come together to get this game in english for us...ive already begun translating player names......and added real logos for EPL/Bundesliga/France
and of course kits....justcant fix collar until i adjust them in hex..or waterloo releases a tool

almost everything is editable..kits are same encryption......graphics and file structure is almost same as other we8...and can be opened and edited with latest afsexplorer........and as for the .str files..thats just a matter of translating the kanji......but be patient....fernando is a busy man and i am working on finishing up my we8jl/afc patch but we are all eager to play this game in full english and are working hard to get there....

yep....after i finish my we8jl patch and get my wisdom teeth pulled out and heal.......i shall tackle this monkey.......will be similar to what we did in we8jl..fernando will do the menu's..in game text etc(hard part)

i will do players database.....hex editing everythign from players..teams to league names etc....since we both are pretty busy maybe both of us working together liek last time (we8jl)will speed things up..til then use a dvdrw or hdloader and get familiar with the game.....i will probably add kits..proper league logos..and hex league names for non licensed leagues too....we'll see how far we get into it....i cant wait to play a bit more....

ok ...meanwhile im using a dvdRW to play the jap game...its really hard for me to fiqure out the special features....but finally i learnt how to get games running ....the tactics seem to be a little complicated but easy to use which is good....and unlike fifa or TCM ....the players individual instruction really effects the game...i duno what i was doing but i made Pedro Mendes go forward from def mid position and during the game i notice it actually effected the game as pedro medes was charging down against Boro....he sent a long ball to Keane who took a shot ..SAVED !!! ....but then King just shot from outside the box....with no keeper around to stop this one.....i went up 1-0 at 73rd min.....quite exciting altho i cant do to much so far....

Well... Last night i played it for 1st time. There is some things that i couldnt understand on jap (each day works for ex), but i understand most of the tactics and strategys on the matchs menues. Its really a very good game... i cant wait for a translation its awesome.

Hey just heard about this. Always dreamed of a game like Football Manager but with PES/WE engine as I can't be bothered lookint at 2d dots moving around and passing the ball as good as the game is.

Hopefully this isn't another crap 3d football game like Premier League or Total Club Manager.

translation is easy......in fact most done.......ill get together with fernando and we'll see what we can put together for you guys...but i just finished my we8jl patch and im a bit busy with supporting that but in a few days ill get back to work on tactics.......all graphics already added...database 85% translated.....fernando is working on menu's(pretty much simple according to him) as well as me.....trust me..this game is easy to do...but just a matter of time to put it all together.....i dont kow if any of you guys downloaded my we8jl patch but i am thorough...and you can expect the same with we tactics patch.....BUT..fernando is a busy busy man and so am i so i hope we can get together to bring you the ultimate tactics patch soon.....trust me if and when its doen itll be as good as the we8jl patch fernando and i worked on together....see you all soon....

great news! THat WETactics game translated might be my last chance of ever liking a "Management" game. I hope its not crap... but we wont know until its all translated of course.

Like for J-league we knew it was a great game... so you knew putting all the right kits/clubs/players... adboards/translation and all that extra stuff would be worth it because we'd play the sHIT out of that game but for this one.... i think its better if we just get all TRANSLATION done first... before customizing game anymore like J=league patch which is biggest , most perfect patch to see if the game is actually any good... or if its just like other 3d management games that are crap like TOTAL CLUB and FA Premier League Manager and etc.

I have it and can tell you this. it's pretty much a management game. you can tell your team what to do and all, but you can not play a game yourself. You can observe and butt in(so to speak) and change things accordingly. it looks like it has much more to it except that you can't make your own stadium:(

I was just wonderin... what's the teams/league structures in it? do you manage PSG in French League or can you make a mixed league... and what teams are there?? same as PES4?

btw - teams like livorno and messina have been added so serie A now has 20 teams. Other leaugues have been updated... unlike WE8 that had old teams.

Mumpleaser, you have to push the "Analog" buttom in your Joystick when the screen goes black. Look at your Joystic and you will see this buttom in middle of the two analog sticks.

Man, I bought this game yesterday, and I have player for a few more than 2 hours.... here is what I could see...

Looks to be an amazing game, has everything that other management games have, hope we can enjoy it fully soon.
I know a bit about katakana letters, so some things I can read, but just a couple of things.
Despite of being in japanese, the menus are very intuitive, and I could look for players, assign scouts, i until called Portillo to a meeting with me!! (I was playing with Fiorentina)
I didn't have time to analyze it well but I didn't find the difference bettween situation mode and new game, in the season menu.

About the database, we have all the PES4 teams, but updated, Barça with Eto'o, etc.
When You play a season youi can select between 6 countries (Germany,Italy, Spain, England, Holland, France) and I didn't see any option to make your own league....

In the formation menu there are many options, I had some dificult with the japanese but I could change my formation, kickers, offense awareness, etc, but other menus (things that aren't in PES4) I couldn't understand... The result was 0x0, and I didn't see much difference from PES, but the players seems to attend to your orders...

Well, that was what I could figure out in a few time of play...but today i hope to play more and i come with pictures ;)

Now i'm wondering... since this is a managing game... hopefully the league isn't like ML then... its all 20 serie A teams and not 16... and is the European thing like real life?? first 4 Champ league and maybe 5th and 6th Uefa cup depending on country coefficients like in real life or is like stupid ML again where first 6 go to WEFA CL... and Only Div 1 cup winner... goes to Wefa Masters (Uefa cup) and 3rd AND FOURTH team of group stages... again unlike real life where 4th team gets knocked the F u cK out...

either way sounds good.. and i look forward to the patch.

Now I started a New Season, tryin to play serious this time...dificult with japanese but I can figure it out.
What I liked is that all the team managers are in the game.
Ancellotti, Arsene Wenger, Carlos Alberto Parreira, Scolari....I took pictures of them, but no quality, if you want to see I can post.
Well, about my season....
I started with Atletico Madrid...
After assignin my scouts, I started looking for players....
after many tries, I bought Pablo Francia, from Bordeaux....
It shows the player presentation, i likd it, took a picture too....
now, after 2 frendlies playing in a 451 formation I had lost 1 ans tied 1....i am in the 3rd and winning now.
I understood a little about training.
You have 18 pts to spend in the tipes of training each day...looks interesting, but i can't read training tipes.
Looking in the competiion I saw tha there is UEFA Cup, Champions League, until Toyota Cup (not real names). There is Super Cup too and even World Cup Qualifiers, but I guess you can't train the international teams. Oh yeah, forgot to mention, the international teams are in the game too....

I made 3 10 secods videos, with no quality, hehehe....if you know where to upload, pliz tell me ;)

game is 100% translated now thanks to my friend hideki at work....whom is fluent in japanese unlike me......i printed out all the text and just gave him to translate and he did it within 1 day(some of the back n forth i couldnt translate).....now i just have to add his translations plus mine into all the str files via hex edit........which ill do once i finish my final update to my we8jl patch.......so a basic translation patch....then after that.....a full patch with real kits+flags+logos(already done) and other nice features..new music etc etc blah blah blah..you know the rest....if youve ever downloaded my patch...you know ill be thorough(although slow hehe)....others are also working on this project......so someone may beat me to it and make you all very happy...and im sure if fernando solves his hd problem youll all be happy soon too....so either way you guys will get something soon im sure.....for now i would suggest just playing with it a bit and get familiar......ill post some pix once i get to work adding everything in hex....now its time to hug my vaporizer and watch the fa cup.....

Great news and thanks to you both Master_11 for posting pics... and telling us a bit about it and Reefur for helping get game translated to 100%.. can't wait to try this... although there is probably a shitload of editing i'll do before starting the real game.. as managerial changes/player transfers have happensed since release of this gam.. but if it has potential... its defintely worth it.

I'd love to see some videods though...

either way good times are ahead.... thanks to everyobdy in community who works hard to get things better for me... and everyone else.

P.s. Thanks to GOLTV, and Fox Sports World who no longer punish me for living in Canada ;). There was a time I regret it... with bad weather and lack of football exposure.. but now Gol TV shows like 6 La Liga matches each week.... and EPL i always got... and Serie A is both on GolTV and Italian channel.. Fox Sports World occasionally has French League and has Bundesliga as well.... only 2 leauges i dont get now that i'd WANT to watch sometimes..
is Portugese Superliga and Dutch Eredivisie but neither are much bother to me ;)

yah the convo back n forth is what my friend hideki translated..although i could have done it it would have taken me longer..and seeing as i am busy with my other patch for we8jl atm....i need alll the help i can get.......translating it was never the problem though...as fernando me and others are able to do it no problem......its just adding it all in hex which is the fun and time consuming part...then testing for crashes etc.....and ill get on it right after my we8jl update ......so soon as i can folks....

After playing for several hours yestreday as FIXED player in PES4 ;) I have a concern that i thought i'd address here hoping to get answered by those who've played the game.

When playing as fixed striker... you're forced to WATCH the match for long periods of time when other team is attacking.. and you dont control your defenders or so... now PES4/WE match engines are wonderful and i had no problem watching CPU vs. CPU matches like that.... however one thing bugged me. CPU does NOT USE Super-cancel !! This heavily makes the game look shitty at times and is the only fault you see when watching cpu vs. cpu because experienced PES4 players like myself use super-cancel more than anythign else almost with every throughball so we go and get the ball earlier or interept it but with CPU... it gives a through ball and the forward is running towards his pre-determined PATH.... which there is a defender standing in front of and will intercept the pass if he doesn't use supercancel and cut across it sooner.... but he doesn't understand and wont do that resulting in defender getting the ball.

so since this game will require us to watch a lot of matches.... have they fixed this or do we stare at TV and yell at our players to use super-cancel which they wont or will? thanks

Well, I never heard that word supercancel, but reading you post I think I understand what it is....
Are u talking about pressing R1 and R2 so the player becomes "manual" and then u can get the ball first???
No, I've never seen the cpu players doing it in WE Tactics....but I played for a few time....it can happen, don't know really...

super cancel is...well lets say ur running to a TRIANGLE pass (truball)...and if u hit Super cancel ..ur player becomes COMPLETELY manual ....you can do this when with the ball yourself ... try it, also try to take the training to help you learn it

It is the most vital move to know in the game in my opinion and would be not fun to watch CPU NOT USE it.... so i hope they do and you just haven't noticed it :D

i've asked this before.. but alwadhi.. do you know if when watching teams... CPU teams or our team we control their players use SUPER-CANCEL.. (R1 + R2) because match engine is fine... and i can watch a game... however even on we8/PES4.. only problem you really notice when watching CPU vs. CPU game is LACK of USe of Super-cancel which makes games dull as cpu unlike us doesn't use it to cut across through balls first lets say before defender intercepts it...

but since this management game will require us NOT playing and just watching.. i was wondering if Konami bothered with fixing it so players now use Super cancel.???

R1 + R2... to move your player freely... because sometimes they're just stuck on a PRE-DETERMINED path it seems and will run toward ball.. meaning if its going out for a throw-in for you... they'll go and touch it and make it a throw-in for opposing team.... unless you know super-cancel and move him away ;) also used for pretty much EVERY through ball you give... so you can take your player to intercept ball first... or do whtaever...

They do NOT use super cancel. The passing has been tweaked, but the AI is still dumb in many ways like WE8/PES4. They still go for a ball that will go out. They always do dumbass red carded tackles when theyre near the sidelines.

Your patch sure is needed, english is an universal language, the most important of them.....there are MAAAAANY people waiting for your work and i'm sure they would all help you if you need.
I'm brazilian, for me a spanish translation would be ok too....but i'm sure that yours will be the best of them....so we're waiting, trusting in your work ;)

Doe's anybody know why wetactics is 4.3gb on the dvd but when all files are exracted it only shows up as 1.3gb. Cant seem to find a dummy file. I think the hidden data contains the text for carrer mode.

from what i know, reefer's HARd at work with his update patch,which shouldn't be called "just' and update as it's unfair. he's redoing stadiums, kits, boots menus etc. So it'll look way better than his current patch which itself is very good. He HAS ALL the translations for it but no time to put everything in the game right now. If you look at his sig it dtails when each of his patches are coming out though and that include the Tactics one as well. :)

got it today. seems good. though im not sure how much depth would be in the game. reminds me a bit of the career mode from one of the nintendo 64 versions. though with a lot more to do. theres a variety of things that a lot of us im sure would like, though im not too sure how long it would take until the novelty of seeing Pro evo as a management game wore off and we'd realise that as a game itself it isn't that good. though its hard to tell how good the actual game is because of all the damn japenese!! :( watching a game in fast speed only made me want to play pro evo. it seems like it has great potential, though im not holding my breath on a full translation. the opening sequence is posssibly the strangest and cheesiest one ive seen in a game.

@LaAm, this is a management game and most casual fans wouldn't like the features of WE tactics in normal PES/WE games because they can't be bothered to tweak all of it and just want to play. I think we have enough tactics in PES/WE to help our team play how WE want but in WE tactics they have to have more of these optinos because you don't get to PLAY , you get to WATCH your team.

no BJ left because he went and fought in another fighting tournament. his contract as welterweight champion said that he couldnt do this. after he beat matt hughes, the same night his mentor renato verissimo beat carlos newton, so there was no good fighters left to fight, so he says, which is why he had to go elsewhere to find better competiton. they went to court over it.
tim slyvia was caught taking steriods after defending his title, he was then stripped of it, but allowed to fight to get it back.

as for tito. ive seen all his fights since he beat ken and the only time hes ever mentioned ken after his fights was at ufc 51. he only called him out because he says that ken had been "talking smack" about him, which is a bit cheeky considering the beating tito handed him.

but use WE8 SLPM File instead of WE Tactic SLPM, and don't import it in the image (use it for editing only)
