Have you guys heard of the above utility disc coming out???

It lets you install a game to a HDD on the PS2 and boot it from their too, I dont know if this has been discussed here before but I have already ordered mine from Whitedog games, also Diveno sell it and I think other stores will soon.

Anyways I just thought imagine you could install 3-4 version of WE7 to HDD so easily and play any patch you liked without having to change disc !!!!!

The whole game runs from HDD so loads times are virtually non-existent Ive heard.

Apparently, if you have a copied CD, you can copy and run it from the hard drive without any chip or swap method. You need something for DVDs though :(

this looks sweet..... i have a spare hard drive here 80gb this is very tempting also i think my laser is about to chuck it so it would save the wear and tear over time   ;)

Apperantly I have a v7 PS2 + DMS3 2.2 flash + 120GB Maxtor + HDLoader.

And no you cannot install copied / import games... :(

I have to admit that the originals that i installed worked very nicely though. I have a fast hdd and they load ultra fast and you save the laser of course.

If anyone has managed to install backups and has DMS3, let me know.

For anyone who has them:

We have now sorted how to install PS2 DVD back-ups to the HDD for Flip-Top and Slide Card users! To do so, you must simply follow this process EXACTLY:

1. Boot up HD Loader
2. At main menu, use EJECT button to insert Swap Magic DVD
3. Go to install, the Swap Magic DVD will stop spinning
4. Swap with your back-up via Flip-Top or Slide Card
5. Press OK to install

* CDR back-ups can be installed directly from HD Loader so no Swap Magic Disc is necessary for them, however, "homebrew" CDR compilations (emulators) are not supported yet by HD Loader.

Jumbo try pressing select when hilighting a game and a "hidden" menu comes up. If you change some of the "toggle" switches, the game may work. There are 8 combinations so you may have to fiddle a bit before you find out.

Default mode is when modes 1 & 2 & 3 are all disabled (#1), you can enable mode 1 only (#2), enable
mode 2 only (#3), enable mode 3 only (#4), enable modes 1 & 2 (#5), enable modes 1 & 3 (#6), enable
modes 2 & 3 (#7), or finally enable modes 1 & 2 & 3 (#8).

whats wrong????

I have DMS3 v9 Silver PAL PS2 v9 and IBM Deskstar 60GB drive.

I just installed WE7 Int (with Redux Patch) and just played a game, its working perfectly, I noticed faster loading and moving around the menus is that little faster/smoother, specially when you pick kit colors for your team before a friendly, that loads instanyl instead of the slight pause as it loads the kits.

Ive tried a few games now.

go here if you want to discuss anything about this product a decent forum thier....

I just booted the HDloader disc as normal, clicked Install and inserted the WE7 game in and it worked, I dont understand why yours aint working unless your chip is not working properly or not installed correctly????

OK, bit behind the times here :-) Can you hook up a normal IDE HD to the PS2?

Thought you needed one of the official PS2HDD add-on boxes...

Sorry for being dumb, I'm normally up to speed on these kind of things, just dont get the time these days!!

Yes you can, although not all normal Hard Drives fit the network adapter. People recommend Maxtor HDs because they definitely fit.

I think my HDLOader disk is fucked...

Can't make image / straight backup of it usin CDRWIN, NERO or ALCOHOL.

I get read errors, disk errors, etc.

Anyone have a link to this sotfware? I own it, I just need to check another version coz this one sure as hell ain't workin properly...

you cant backup the HDloader disk its protected.

Their is a pirate version around the net but that dont work either, apparently lets you install games to HDD but not play them.

I ordered my HDLoader disk from Whitedog Games, good service as usual it arrived next day. (same people who chipped my PS2)

jumbo
19 June 04, 19:33
got it, I know what my problem is:

Just tested:

I'm in the browser, I insert a backup, DMS3 detects it. I eject the disk and insert another backup, I get a red screen.

Seems like my DMS3 turns itself after the first boot.

Must be the same with HDLoader, when I open the tray to insert a backup, the chip is already off so I get an invalid disk message...

Goddamit... jesus f christ, i cannot believe this shittttttt...........

Harvy2001
20 June 04, 02:26
?!!?!? Jumbo????!?

1. Turn PS2 on.
2. Insert 'HDD Loader' disc
3. Put PS2 in Standby (hold power button)
4. Press Power button again to start PS2 and HDD loader should boot fine.
5. Select Install
6. Eject disc and Insert PS2 Game (original or backup) when asked
7. Give the game a name and select END

And it should begin installing.

Dont wait for browser screen to appear because sometimes backups etc will not work from thier.

jumbo
20 June 04, 03:45
harry you have a dms3, right?

when you turn your ps2 on, insert a backup then take it out, do you get a red screen when tryin to insert another backup without resetting?

I got it.

I booted a backup copy of the HDLoader and went to install and w/o ejecting i selected continue and it asked me to insert a name, etc.

When I ejected the tray and closed with the same disk in, I got the "invalid ps2 disk" message.

My chip simply disables it on EJECT and there's nothin I can do about it.

Must have somethin to do with the sleep mode activating on RESET (5 sec.).

This almost sounds too good to be true.
Considering I know nothing about how to fiddle about with the innards of a console, is it really as simple as it sounds to install a network adaptor and HDD without any hiccups?
I'm using a flip-top lid and Swap Magic 2.0 for my imports (i.e WE games  ) so if i was to get the necessary parts (network adaptor, 40GB+ Maxtor IDE HDD, and HD Loader) and install them, then can you really just copy any game you want to the HD? If this is true i'll definitely be getting me some of that!

After having a quick look around, i reckon i can get HD Loader for £20, the network adaptor for about £23, and a 80GB Maxtor IDE HDD for £45. Does anyone know if this is the cheapest way of getting all three, or are there any bundles going for cheaper?

ps - are rental versions of games any different from the retail copies? ;)

no that is not possible. it has nothin to do with hdloader. hdloader is a ps2 disk that can only be used in ps2 and when ps2 is on and connected to a tv and you can only install games by swapping... in another words, no.

It's only a matter or putting the HD in the Network adapter, then screwing the Network Adapter in. (If the HD fits without modification, Maxtor ones do.

You have to put in HD Loader everytime you want to play a game off the HD, although you could just keep it in!

ps - are rental versions of games any different from the retail copies? ;)

Always works for me, although you can't go online with them (DNAS problem) and I don't condone piracy

If you have a V9 than you still need a disc in your drive when bootin from MC... any disk but you still need it. Newer systems have some sort of bug, authentication problem and unless you have 'some' disk in your drive, hdloader won't get past the loading screen...

This is great! I tested PS2OWNZ version with my leftover Seagate 40G drive. Of the titles I tested, all except Football Kingdom were installed and run successfully.

However. it seems there's a bug -- on each bootup, the first title installs without a hitch but the program emits an error (sth like "not enough disk space") on the subsequent titles I try to install. Strangely, give it a second try and it installs normally.

In addition, each title seems to consume more disk space than its given size.

HDLDump is a program that allows you to install games to the HDD for use on HDLoader from your PC. so basically you put your ps2 HDD that was formatted with HDLoader already and you can transfer games directly to the HDD on your pc w/o using HD Loader to install the games.

some patches dont work, for some reason, dont know why.

For example the following rip does not work on the harddrive:

PS2-WE7INT_rip_by_WEKAISER+BLAKCAT_V2_LFP_COGSWAP (616mb)

I ripped the DUMMY.BIN of (PIMP) down so that the file size when burnt ended 627mb. (Mr South Patch) Works!!!!

jumbo
18 July 04, 03:57
If a game doesn't work, means it's ripped incorrectly. Not HDLoader's fault.

And second, there's only one HDLoader. The other so called "versions" are the same thing without the big dummie files.

The code is still the same. So if one don't work, none will.

New HDL_Dump Released (GUI called HDL_DUMB)

HDL_DUMP 0.3 with HDL_DUMB (GUI for it) have been released... grab them HERE (http://www.ps2ownz.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22785), and relevant changes/updates include:
hdl_dumb (that is the GUI build) supports installation and removal of games only
hdl_dump and hdl_dumb are tested on Windows XP with SP 1 ONLY
Windows 9x and ME are unsupported
installation of a DVD9 from an optical drive is unsupported (use an ISO image instead)
HD Loader could automagically enable one or more modes during installation, but hdl_dump does not; do it manually
"zero" and "delete" commands of the command-line version would not ask for confirmation
"zero" command of the command-line version will destroy information on the target HDD
when "icon.bin" file is missing you'll receive "File not found." error
hdl_dumb does not require hdl_dump

RAISH

if u properly rip the PIMP rip, taking the DUMMY.BIN down to 0 in terms of file size and running it thru cdmage for errors, you can get it on the harddrive.

You need a Hard Drive (between 40gb and 120gb, preferably Maxtor) and a Network adapter for your PS2.

I have been speaking with some guys from the PSX forum (guys who developed the WinHIIP software similar to HDL_Dump), and the main guy Gadget Freak is going to start the FTP thing once the WinHIIP development/bug fixing has slowed down.

Do you have a link for any other projects? cheers

i believe i have a neo chip, normally i have to start up with action replay and hold the reset button, when i release it the disk open and i can do a swap.

for the rest a maxtor 120 gb, should give a problem.

i start up hddloader while holding onto the reset button. i go to install, press eject, put in a legal ps2 disk to fool my ps2. it accepts the disc, hddloader ask me to name it at this moment i let loose of the reset button, my tray comes out, i put it WE7i, it automaticly closes, all goes fine, i press end and it starts to initialize. and now 10 minutes later its still intializing... :(

dvd9 games work fine if u transfer them from a pc iso while your ps2 hdd is in the pc. and eventually you will be able to transfer isos fine over the network adapter. (you can now but its slow as shit)

and to cleverpetey, if you think win98 is better than winxp in any way, you obviously dont have any clue about either operating system or used xp at any length. im not saying xp is better than a linux setup but it's a fucking thousand times better than win98. winxp and win2k however are a lot closer in stability.

Using HDD Loader, you cannot set the Mode 3 enabled prior to installing, correct? Which means it will not work.

my xported option files for we8 dont work. i cant figure it out. they worked when i played we8 on dvd but as soon as i put the game on the hdd there is an error in loading the op file. when i go to options you can see that an option file exists but it just doesnt load properly. i thought it might be because i loaded a new untested translation patch so i then put the origianl iso which also failed to load the op file.

please any help is appreciated, option file comes from xport if that makes any difference

thanks for the reply foss, but i've tried it. i deleted the op file then put the xport op file on. didnt work. i then tried to delete the op file then create one through the actual game, not suprisingly that actually worked. so i then tried to replace this op file with the one on the pc (xport) but that didnt work either

I think you can use Faplink, but you should search the web for it... and I think it is slower than HDL_Dump and WinHiip, which requires the PS2 HDD to be plugged into the PC.

Or do you need to boot with original cd or can you even copy the backup in the first place ?

Or do you need to boot with original cd or can you even copy the backup in the first place ? nope, no need for a modchip, all you need is a ps2, a hard drive, a network adapter, and HD loader or HD advance software, a pc, and your all set... to get the backups to work you need to copy the image to your pc, hook the hd to your pc, get a program called winhipp, and copy the image over to the HD, then you stick it in the network adapter, put the HD loader disk in the ps2 and you play the game!!! its pretty fucking cool man

Just got myself an network adaptar and an 80gig (7200rpm, 2mb cache) Maxtor hard drive but im having a bit of a problem getting it up and running.

first i set the jumper on the HD to the master setting, hooked it up to my pc and formatted to the ps2 format using WinHiip 1.6.3.
I then installed a backup copy of We8 using the same program.
Next, I hooked everything up to the ps2, got HDLoader on my memory card using the mc exploit and switched on my ps2 with the ps1 disc im using as the triggering disc.

Up to this point everything is fine...HDLoader loads up to the title screen but then i get the following error: "HDLoader could not detect a hard disk drive connected to your ps2".

Any ideas as to what might be causing this problem?

I also had problems getting mine working with the Seagate 120gb drive I have, on doing some reading it seems that my problem is Messiah2+Seagate= not working, so I'm having to use the new Maxtor 160gb 8mb cache drive that I bought for my PC in my PS2, I'm hoping that when I get a PS1 game it will then work from the memory card (I'm using HD loader from cd right now).

Have you checked the HD compatibility chart website? That's where I discovered the messiah2 problem :)

22 October 04, 17:49
BTW have you tried loading HDadvance/HDloader from a CD?

Edit: From HDadvance website (it's basically the same program just repackaged)......

HDD Compatibility:
HDAdvance is compatible with all official PS2 HDD, and most other standard IDE HDD with 40GB or larger capacity. Some modern Seagate HDD may have problems when used in conjunction with older models of the official PS2 network adapter. Most Western Digital HDD do not physically fit in the PS2 Official network adapter without some modification.

If HDAdvance stops at the splash screen for you, then it is due to this conflict mentioned above. In order to tackle this you will either need to purchase a new HDD or network adapter.

I'm actually waiting for a replacment laser to get delivered sometime tomorrow or thursday coz my old laser just couldn't read anything anymore. I was trying to get everything to work on my mates ps2 which had an old modchip in it that uses the ar2 to boot discs, so maybe the chip was the problem. anyways im waiting for the laser to get delivered and hook everything up to my ps2 with a magic3 chip and we'll see from there. if my ps2 still doesn't recognize the hd then it surely will be the hd not being compatible. i'll keep you posted as i go along.
